Caught Up On My Stories BTW. Handling It
any other knitters out there who can do continental and english style notice a difference in tension between the two? my english style is soooooo tight compared to my continental style and for the life of me i cannot reason why it be doing that
sometimes people experiencing psychosis and/or mania will come up to you on the street and talk in confusing or upsetting ways. your job is to either have a regular human-to-human conversation with that person or politely leave. your job is not to call 911. do not call 911. you might kill that person if you call 911.
I don't even have the energy to screenshot and respond to your tags- what the actual fuck is wrong with you? "the cops are scared and rightfully so" "mental health calls are the scariest for cops" OH so this isn't about the safety of psychotic & manic people this is about piggy feelings?
and no, actually, this is not USA specific and no, actually, people from other countries should not ignore this post. police violence and sanism weren't invented in the US and they are certainly not unique to here. if you (or anyone) thinks that this bullshit doesn't happen elsewhere then you are not listening.
cops r Some Guy with a Gun
do we want Some Guy with a Gun in this situation? answer is usually "NO"
This is legitimately useful reframing. A while ago I started replacing the word "cop" in my vocabulary with "a man with a gun." It really puts things into perspective.
This homeless person is making me uncomfortable. Should I call [a man with a gun]?
My neighbor is having a loud party. Should I get [a man with a gun] involved?
There are some teenagers skateboarding. Do you think [a man with a gun] would get rid of them for me?
It makes it very clear what you're saying. I can call a man with a gun to threaten or hurt someone mildly inconveniencing me. You're not calling the cops, you're calling A MAN WITH A GUN into a situation that does not warrant a firearm handled by a volatile lunatic who will not be held accountable for his actions.

I think part of getting better is complete ego death. Like youāre not above setting a timer for 5 minutes and focusing on a task. Youāre not above doing a very simple 3 minute workout to start. Youāre not above reading for 10 minutes a day when you first get out of your reading slump, even if you used to read for hours. Youāre not above starting slow and then building up to where you want to be/where you once were. What you are above is total inertia. Doing something really is better than doing nothing. Radically accept where you are, radically accept your limits, and go from there. Donāt let your ego get in the way.
ursula k le guin affirmations for your day:
it is our differences which make us dearer to one another
it is never too late to start loving
the enemy is not the foreigner, but the ones who tell you to hate the foreigner
everyone should have food, shelter, and work
everything is a yin and yang metaphor if you try hard enough
sci-fi is important
when avoiding the task doesnāt even free you from the obligation of it because youll still be thinking about it fucking constantly
firm believe that not everything happens for a reason, sometimes things are just cruel. and they shouldnāt have happened and itās not supposed to be a lesson because we never deserved such thing.
hm some people in my inbox got really mad at this specifically. nothing you can say will convince me that some of the pain and suffering we go through is our āfateā no, it isnāt
sounds very similar to a radio story i heard in 2014 ago about credit card debt. the debt got sold to a collection company and a couple received a court summons. they knew they had taken on debt, but they were confused about who this new company was and where specifically the number they were supposed to owe came from.
they show up in court and just ask the lawyer for the collection company: can you prove where this number comes from? Do you have a contract showing that you purchased our debt? probably luckily for them, a reporter researching a book on the topic showed up and asked the same questions.
10 minutes later they get in front of the judge and the collection company drops the whole case and theyre free to go. story is below, it has a transcript in the link too

being anti-amatonormativity in a romance centered world is like watching half the people you know put all their eggs in one basket and then drop the basket and all their eggs break and theyāre crying and swearing theyāre never gonna do that again and then a month later they have all new eggs in a new basket and they tell you the problem was they didnāt have a strong enough basket or fresh enough eggs and then they drop the fucking basket again.
(this post is about putting all your time, energy, and care into one relationship, about staking all your happiness on a romantic relationship, effectively making the entirety of your joy and stability dependent on one person who could exit your life for any number of reasons no matter how great the relationship seems. itās about the societal expectation to build your entire social life around one long term relationship, putting all your eggs in that basket, so to speak, instead of tending to larger social network and maintaining a variety of strong connections so that even if one very important relationship comes to an end, you wonāt be losing your whole social life in one fell swoop.)
actually upon further inspection, the hollow knight godhome secret ending is beyond my abilities. if video games literacy is language i barely read at 3rd grade lvl and this is straight up collegiate master's shit
the thing I love most about how tumblr users use tags is that itās like what if a social media website had a footnotes system
i love writing out numbers and then putting them in parentheses like "one (1)" even when i dont need to i think its funny
it takes 10 layers of the water filter to completely drown a tumblr screenshot if anyone was wondering

my prized possession is this loveseat I bought from a divorced dad who couldnāt tell me anything about it and in the years iāve owned it iāve never been able to find out who made it or where it came from. itās got nails and finger creases and palm lines but theyāre all kinda hard to see in this pic.
