the “you” is America. caught up in the lights and the glory of the “American dream” and what America represents and all the sparkly shiny versions of it.

the 2016 election. all the glamour and the shiny versions of America faded in a single night and exposed all of the nasty things beneath. we no longer want to ideolize “American things” like prom and homecoming and American culture. because look where it got us. we run for our fucking lives.  “No cameras catch my pageant smile I counted days, I counted miles To see you there, to see you there It’s been a long time coming, but”

we put on a show, we thought we could win it. we played the game. and yet… “It’s you and me, that’s my whole world They whisper in the hallway, “She’s a bad, bad girl” (Okay)”

literally. the 2016 election. it’s very very clear. we were losing. the liberals were losing. the republicans were getting ahead and they were winning. and people didn’t fucking care… they didn’t care.

the aftermath. the country burning. we don’t want to have to have this fight. it’s absurd that we should have to fight against what we do. this isn’t politics anymore. when we play these games, nobody wins. we need to get back to what politics should be about… not arguing over fundamental human rights. someday in the future we will take it back. we’re going to paint the town blue. we can’t give up. we’re almost there. we’re going to win it back.

This is the last time 17 year old Rosalina would ever write something.

I’ve lost touch with my pen and paper for the longest time since I’ve moved on from being 16 - well not quite. Til now i cry coz im no longer 16. Weird. In fact, everything that happened after that time span seemed so insignificant, so tentative. There’s something about  turning a year older that seem to take away the life out of  me. I feel like I’ve tethered my body along with age, with time. I’ve caged myself so often in boxes of good ol memories that im supposed to just carry with me. I’ve let pieces of me slip away in every passing second. I leave traces of me in every place that i go and yet i bemoan over my lost parts. I scribe stories in the air and let the gust blow it away. I hold on to bygones and revel in them. It always seem as though im standing in a railway in the midst of an oncoming train while enticing myself with a five-second flashback playing incessantly in my eyes..

I rarely deal with the NOW. Whenever i do, it’s all just whining and self deprecating thoughts. ..

Everything feels abysmal, empty. And now i couldn’t face the reality of turning 18 when i haven’t gotten my lost self back; truth be told i dont know if i ever would.

I don’t see the armour as something she’s using to take to battle with the media, I see it more as her taking everything she’s learned about being in the public eye and developing that into a defence system. Remember when she said that as a songwriter she couldn’t have a thick skin because it would adversely impact on being able to feel and write her songs. I think she’s developing a way of shutting down the denigratory relationship she has with the media and people who clearly don’t understand her to be able to open herself up more to the productive aspects of her life that allow her to have experiences that she can continue to channel her thoughts and feelings into her art without thinking they have to be filtered to meet the unrealistic expectations of people who don’t know her.
