John Deacon in Queen:Neal Preston Photographs
Bring it back, bring it back Don’t take it away from me Because you don’t know What it means to me
You will remember When this is blown over And everything’s all by the way When I grow older I will be there at your side to remind you How I still love you
I still love you...
Queen - Live at the Montreal Forum (1981)
long time no talk.... things have changed but i thought i’d pop on here and say hi.
so hello lovely people. how are you all?
update from me: i’m now 19, a sophomore in college, and still wildly in love with queen (and roger). i’m also now (kinda) openly bi (i think rogerina really awoke something in me) and i have a nose piercing! so lots of changes but it’s all good
You have been visited by the lucky Deacy and Freddie. Reblog in 3 minutes and you’ll have good luck.
Sleep HCs - Queen
Freddie:
Sleeps almost in the middle of the bed
SPRAWLS
Like all corners of the bed are his
You just happen to be there too
Takes ‘suggestions’ well
Meaning: if you push him away from your sleeping space, he will go without waking up
Hard sleeper
Like would probably sleep through the apocalypse
However, when he does wake up (without an alarm naturally) he quickly rearranges himself to curl into you
Brian:
Is very good about staying on his side of the bed
Almost too good
Doesn’t move a lot during the night
Unless he’s having nightmares
Sleeps mainly on his back
Likes to cuddle you into his chest, at least while falling asleep
He is a One Pillow Person™
Light sleeper
Unless they’ve just come home from a tour, then he sleeps like the dead
Always wakes up before you and usually greets you with tea and a forehead kiss
Roger
Cuddle Monster
He is always touching you. Always
Likes to sleep on his side with an arm or leg or both thrown over you
He moves when you move. It’s like he’s anticipating it somehow
Medium sleeper???
Like will sleep through your normal movements throughout the night
But if he hears a weird noise he’s up in a heartbeat to find out what it is
Hates alarms. Absolutely loathes them, but recognizes the need for them on important days
Wakes up within moments (either before or after, depends on the day) of you and always tries to pull you impossibly closer
John
Stomach Sleeper
Cuddles the pillow under his head. Like very nearly clutches it to his chest
The quality of his sleep depends on a lot of things tho. Usually how his day went
Good day: good sleep, not too deep, not too light, very easy going, wakes up rested
Bad day: can’t sleep, there’s just too much going on in his head for him to drown it all out, moves around a lot
Long day: passes tf out, he is not waking up for anything, he doesn’t even twitch or groan or acknowledge that you crawled into bed with him. He Is Out.
Lonely day: happens a lot on tour, needs extra pillows and maybe a phone call bc he just misses you, sleeps very lightly these days. He always tells you about them.
Every morning he spends with you he always wakes up with a smile in your direction. Best part of the day, in his opinion.
Hello, yes. These made me soft as hell.
wow i can’t believe they named a whole planet after freddie mercury
Freddie's level of laughter
The documentary where they kept cutting between Brian and Roger talking about Top of the Pops with Brian talking about what a great opportunity it was and how it was nice to have glamorous girls dancing to their music and Roger whining about how the cymbals weren’t real and how he hated it and how the dancers and the producers were awful is PEAK comedy
Interviewer, referencing Freddie’s time with the royal ballet: Is Freddie the best dancer in the world?
John: Freddie’s not even the best dancer in Queen.
Roses are red
Love of my life, can’t you see?
All different stages of Brian. From childhood to elderly.
a couple ‘o’ groovy queen facts
(that I didn’t already know)
last month i was in london and i went on a queen tour - we visited a bunch of places like trident studios and garden lodge, and i kept a list of cool facts the guide told me. the guide was a guy called Lee, who actually knew Queen when he was a teenager! Lee was in a band called Plex with Darren Sheffield, whose dad was Norman Sheffield (i.e. ex-manager of Queen, had a little song called ‘Death On Two Legs’ written about him), so Lee used to hang out with his band at Darren’s house, and sometimes hang out with Freddie, Roger, Brian, and John. but more on that later.
[EDIT: i’ve been informed that a couple of these facts weren’t entirely accurate, so i’ve gone ahead and fixed them up.]
most things lee said I already knew, but here’s a couple of interesting ones that i didn’t. in no particular order:
Freddie loved koi fish. he owned a bunch of them, and they lived in the pond at garden lodge. he loved koi fish so much, he actually owned one valued at £250000. in 2002, someone who was working on the house stuffed something up, which resulted, basically, in all the fish dying. including the mad expensive one. mary tried to sue the company, but it was never resolved.
the stomping we hear in ‘we will rock you’ was done in a converted church hall - Wessex Sound Studios
the clapping we hear was done partially by Lee’s band! queen needed more people to clap, and they realised that they actually had a bunch of 14-year-olds nearby who wouldn’t mind helping out.
Queen never played at Royal Albert Hall. but Smile actually did, in 1969
Peter Grant (who is known as the most successful British manager of all time - he’s managed Led Zeppelin, The Pretty Things, etc.) approached Queen to ask to be their manager in 1976. at this point, Queen was already having troubles with their management at the time; and the thing with Peter Grant is that you don’t turn down Peter Grant. but Queen did. absolute big dick energy.
did lee have any interesting things to say about the boys, seeing as he used to hang out with them? he had a couple of little anecdotes here and there:
freddie was like a whirlwind. always busy. apparently he used to speak very quickly, too.
Lee and the other boys in his band used to help save messages from fans who called the sheffield house, and pass the messages along to Queen. Roger received the most messages by far, mostly from women who were besotted by him
out of all of them, Deacy was the best soccer (or football) player, although Roger wasn’t half-bad, either. Freddie was hopeless, and he generally wasn’t that interested in playing, anyway. Lee didn’t even mention Brian, so I’m not sure what that says about Brian’s soccer-playing abilities.
Lee himself got along best with Brian, mostly because of their mutual enjoyment of Rory Gallagher. well, Brian’s ‘enjoyment’ was more like ‘obsession’. Lee had only seen one musician live at that point in his life, and it happened to be Rory Gallagher. when Brian heard this, he got really fucking excited, and talked about Rory Gallagher non-stop. Lee got along with Brian pretty well after that.
Lee did tell one story about how he and his friends used to pretend to be all grown-up and cool by hanging out in Queen’s van, until one day, someone accidentally took off the handbrake. bc it wasn’t a normal handbrake (it was a button), and none of them could drive, they couldn’t figure out how to put it back on again, and just had to accept their fate as the van slowly rolled down the driveway. it hit the gate, but luckily, bc they’d been rolling so slowly, the van wasn’t damaged. they didn’t hang out in the van after that.
Roger and Rufus Taylor 💖
“It was the first time we were performing together out of the wigs and out of the costumes. And, I remember finding it really difficult. Got so used to being in that 70′s style that I found it really hard to then be there in modern clothing trying to go back into that world.”
