I recontracted but I don’t know if I can make it through the end of this year. ): So much time alone is just... crippling, and I say that as an introvert. I basically spend all my time at work sleeping because I can’t do anything. My school just bought me a laptop but it’s already so slow it freezes when I make word documents, and my personal laptop is a brick because the internet doesn’t work for Macs. Hopefully being able to move will brighten things up. I don’t have any friends outside of two JETs I talk to sometimes, and one is leaving. Most of the Meetups in my area are either held during the day (okay, stay-at-home moms) or drinking events that I don’t feel comfortable attending... Sigh. I knew I was bad at making friends, but I didn’t realize it was this bad.

On the 1st, I found out I was placed in the town I requested–Kuwana!

I was given the address for my apartment earlier today, which is brand new since my predecessor lived with his fiancee and her apartment is going to her successor. I cried for a few minutes over the fact it is a 35+ minute walk from any train station and all the other JETs, but quickly perked up after seeing how close I am to an Aeon, a supermarket, and a park. All within 5 minutes.

Feeling pretty good about this.

So, roughly 7 months later, I can announce that I am moving... This apartment has been one of the most depressing things about Japan. No one at my school will admit it, but pretty much everyone I’ve met outside of work has told me the forest separating me and my town is rampant with sexual assault, so I never go out in the afternoons for fear I will have to return after sunset. Coupled with the fact I am completely alone for 6~ hours a day, since my desk is basically in a storage room, I am just a ball of lonely anxiety all the time. The process of moving has also been incredibly stressful, with my school basically refusing to help. I move to the city center in a month! Beyond excited.

I feel bad for being upset at first, since obviously I really really lucked out with everything... But so it goes.

It’s hard when a lot of people tell you to expect one thing, and then the opposite happens.
