First show off the year!
See the warp waiting??? No, me neither. I can't seem to get off my duff to work on it. I'd rather rest. I'm sick. That's today's excuse (And technically yesterday's too). I'm guessing that I don't enjoy this part of the process -and I'm big on enjoying things that are no fun. Cleaning -got to enjoy it. Cooking -for you enjoy it. I think I'm adding dressing the loom to that list with cleaning et al. So here I sit watching the gulls and waves. Waiting for the next potty emergency (erm, of my 3 yr old, not me!).
A bit of snark today.
The view from the boathouse today! I found some irony in this scene, the fossil fuel industry taking a break at the seaside
-that it is ruining.
And no I don’t fault the driver he/she is just a person doing their job.
My nephews asked sweetly if I could make them stuffed dragons with their names on them, adding even more sweetly that "they would make REALLY good Christmas presents... if I needed any ideas or any...
This is a much better sight! After the way the week started I was a bit worried, but alls well now. :)

So this happened on MLK Day. Just humming along (fixing my mistakes) and wham implosion! This is the first time something like this has happened to me on the sock machine. Funny now.

Amazing!
Knitting is addictive <3 Crown hat is still looking for its owner! Made from superwash wool and metallic gold thread. Pattern here.
This weekend I made not 1, not 2, but 3 socks! (not 3 pairs mind you) These are two new vegan yarns that I wanted to try out. The multi color is a 98% cotton with elastic while the brown is 75% cotton with arcylic. I'd like to develop a vegan sock that is giftable, something you want to buy because of overwhelming awesomeness. My dilemma with these yarns is the one that feels amazing acts too much like cotton but the actual functional sock doesn't have good in-the-hand feel. I'll finish the brown pair before I give up on its lovely softness because I'd really like to know how they both launder. Please excuse the funny photo's -my "photo booth" is flooded out. This rain melted the snow which flooded the basement. I could go down there but it's just too depressing.
can you show us some of the stuff you have knitted?

Have I ever shown you this?
I started this project this time last year. I was sooooooo excited about this project. But at some point I started having anxiety about how it looked and how I thought it should look. I doubt I’m an artist. With this project I wanted to replicate a photo with wool and mohair. I wanted to show the world how beautiful and wrong science can be -all at once.
This rug tells the story of one of science’s gaffs with representing women for the work they’ve done. Rosalind Franklin took this photo:
It’s an x-ray crystallography photo showing the structure of DNA. I’ll add that I don’t see how this looks like the helix of DNA but I’ll trust in the system. Then via some tom-foolery her photo was shown to Watson and Crick, they saw the structure and then went on to publish the first description of DNA, without giving her any credit. They went on to get a Nobel Prize for their discovery. There is a nice write up of this story here.
