Heath Ledger as William Thatcher — A KNIGHT’S TALE (2001)
heath ledger
freak4freak is always so awesome but another character dynamic that i think is really great is freak vs freak. you're the only person who understands me and i'm the only person who understands you. unfortunately this also does not stop either of us from hating each other and in fact it might even make everything significantly worse for everyone involved

y’all who’s trying to get me this
me. in my element. thriving.
Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars.

jokler of the day
i cannot say how much i love that they put him in the nurse outfit. it’s so iconic at this point that you can almost take it for granted, but this was a specific choice that they made. he could have disguised himself as any other hospital worker. they chose to have the joker’s disguise in this scene be as a female nurse, red wig to boot, and especially given that this was 2008 this was not a trivial choice.
the joker has always been the antithesis of batman, and many interpretations of batman (including my own) give him sort of a rigid view of masculinity.
if batman had to dress in feminine garb for whatever reason, you’d bet they’d have included him grumbling and mumbling or shooting a little one-liner to alfred, to soothe the fanboys. no fellas, trust, batman is a man’s man. that’s why he’s uncomfortable wearing women’s clothes!!
there’s nothing like that with the joker. joker doesn’t give a shit. he’s not trapped in the same box governing his own masculinity. in fact, i see him as being more secure in his identity than batman. it seems like he revels in the fun of assuming this nurse character and i think that’s who he is. he doesn’t have those same little rules in his head restricting what he does, as long as it will get him the outcome he wants, and he WILL have fun with it.
nothing pisses me off like seeing people on tiktok STILL rehashing the myth that playing the joker killed heath ledger. it’s just wrong. it’s been eighteen years, get your facts straight.
at the time of his death, filming on the dark knight had already wrapped months before and he was already halfway done with filming a new movie in a new role. do people ever think playing tony in the imaginarium of doctor pernassus played a role in his death? they don’t, because they don’t even know he did that movie.
he was struggling with insomnia and pneumonia and took a bad combination of pills to fight it. it’s that simple. mythologizing this man’s death misrepresents him as an actor and casts a weird light on what happened.
i finally see batjokes being real
Here's more work in progress of the Joker to go with my fic!
i have to wait TWO YEARS to watch this stupid movie in theaters for its 20th anniversary. then i will spend a hundred bucks on tickets to see it the whole week.
how have i seen this movie like five times and never in a theater. should be a crime
