Professor Scott Alden

You must be the new student. Have a seat, there is one open in the front row. Now we can begin. I am Professor Alden, I teach both physics and mathematics. I will occasionally teach logic as well. Now that introductions are out of the way, let's begin. You all have your textbooks? "Ekko. Caroline Ekko." Cari smiled, holding out a hand for a firm handshake. "It’s nice to meet you, Professor Alden. I am a huge fan of your work. I am a psychology major," she began to explain, "and that requires a certain amount of field time in the initial stages. I was wondering… well, I was wondering if you were taking any interns this semester, and if so… if I could be one of them."

"Psychology?" he raised an eyebrow, looking at the girl curiously, "You are aware that I teach mathematics and physics, correct?" He gestured for her to sit down, taking the chair beside Caroline and turning it to face her, "Or are you referring to the philosophical works I've published?" He had dabbled in that field as well. He was, however, interested, though Scott was unsure of her proposal, "What type of field work do you refer to, Miss Ekko."

"Twenty-Three, so yeah. I’m not stupid enough to drink in front of a teacher if I were underage." She shrugged, she was told she often didn’t look her age though. So she wasn’t terribly surprised he’d asked.

"Good." he replied simply, taking a small sip of his drink. "May I ask what you study, Miss?" he asked, attempting to make small talk. He was pleased that some of the student body were smart enough not to get caught doing illegal things. So many did and were careless about it.

"What is it with these students this year?"

"I suppose I was never a math person, but that does not mean that I do not disrespect the sciences." He nodded his head slowly, before letting out a chuckle. "I am still trying to get to grasp with all the new sciences. It is all updating so quickly, it is beyond comprehension." The blond thought about the name that was given for a moment.

 ”You have quite the reputation, from what I have heard.”

"Those in the field have learned the tricks to keeping up." he told Bodes nochalantly. He never had a problem keeping up with the physics journals, but he also had spent most of his life following them, so he had gotten used to the constant updates.

Scott almost chuckled at that comment, "Not a very good one, I assume." He did not often had students approach him as they did more popular professors, but he did not mind. "I should mention that you do, as well."

Sara raised her glass and smiled. “To a new school year.”

"May most of the students pass~" Because all was far too hopeful with his class… at least first semester.

"I doubt it," he murmured, taking a small sip of his wine. He looked over the rim of the glass, recognizing the girl as one from one of his lectures. "I do hope you are old enough to drink." he warned, not wanting to file a report about illicit conduct on his night off.

"Absolutely. Sorry to interrupt, I’ll just be back there…"

Scott quickly wrapped up the lecture, using the last ten minutes of class to finish up and assign their reading for next week, then dismissed the students. Recalling the girl that had interrupted, he walked to the back of the lecture hall, "How can I help you, Miss...?"

"I was unaware there would be a visitor today. If you could please wait until I complete the lecture."

"To a new school year."

I'm simply famished!

"Yeah, I know, but I didn’t think it’d be the most advanced one. But, I guess I’m in the most advanced computer classes so they’d want the best math. I can do it. though. No worries there dude." She gave a thumbs up and grinned.

Scott nodded. "They usually want programmers to have as much mathematical knowledge as possible." he informed her, "It is the same with physicists, regardless of which kind." He would know, he had studied both quantum and theoretical physics.

"These exams are terrible..."

"Doesn’t sound like it takes much to be better then them by your standards." Claudia laughed with a shrug. "Joshua Dalton, he’s here somewhere. But man this school is huge! He can’t get far though, I doubt he’d leave before I got chance to find him.”

"On the contrary, it takes a lot to be better than them." he told her. His standards were high. Some students claimed impossibly high, but he had succeeded these things at their age, and if he could, so could they. "Joshau Dalton?" he mentally went through a list of past students, "Did I teach him in the past?"

Sensing the professor’s reluctance to converse with her, she returned to finish her meal in silence, keeping her head down. To keep her mind busy, started quizzing herself on verb conjugations in German. Occasionally, she would look up with furrowed eyebrows when it took longer than a couple of seconds to bring the correct form of a verb to the forefront of her mind. 

When she finished her food, she gathered her belongings and stood to push in her chair. “Auf Wiedersehen… I mean, goodbye Professor.”

Scott went back to to the papers he had been looking at, feeling Uheri's gaze on him every so often as he focused on the papers. He slowly ate his salad to, vaguely remembering it was there, and why he had come to the dining hall.

He looked up when she stood, "Zài jiàn." he replied to the German in Chinese, wondering if she would understand it. She spoke German, which he doubted was her native language from the accent she had been using when she first asked to sit with him.

Scott looked up when she spoke, offering a nod of recognition when she introduced himself, swallowing his food before answering her in kind, “Professor Alden.” He bowed his head slightly in her direction, as he had been taught to do as a boy.

"Likewise." Scott told the girl before img forking another bite of salad into his mouth. It wasn't really a pleasure, as he did not know if this girl would be irritating or not, but not returning the phrase would be considered rude. He was jolted from his thoughts about American HA bits with her next sentence, nodding slightly, "Amongst other things."

Scott nodded slowly, wondering why a student would choose to sit with a teacher. It was unconventional, especially in this school, and he had very rarely seen it in the past. And even then, there was usually a tutoring aspect to it. But he was not concerned over the company,...

Scott walked to the mess hall, his stomach rumbling slightly as he hurried. He had been grading pretests all day, and had not had time to cook himself a meal, or go out for lunch. In hindsight, it was very unwise of him. He now had to run to the cafeteria, The food there was...

Scott nodded slowly, wondering why a student would choose to sit with a teacher. It was unconventional, especially in this school, and he had very rarely seen it in the past. "Allll the way over there." She whined. "Still better than cooking." That name range a bell…. suddenly it clicked. "Ah. Professor Alden… Nice to meet you." She nodded. "I’ll be in your class tomorrow." She grinned. "Apparently even computer sciences needs a math course too."

Scott nodded, not wanting to argue. He preferred cooking when he had the time, the food was of a better quality, and guaranteed vegetarian. "Nice to meet you as well." he looked up when he mentioned her would be teaching her, "And most science degrees require knowledge of mathematics."

"These exams are terrible..."

She furrowed her brows. “Well, clearly they’re not Claudia Dalton! I can assure you I won’t give you anything but my best.” She nodded matter of factly. “My brother wouldn’t allow it.” She added with a laugh.

"I hope it is better than these students." he told her, flipping through the exams again before putting the, back in his bag. "Who is your brother, Miss Dalton?" Perhaps he knew who she was speaking of.
