Meditation As A Tool To Reach Any Goal
Different reasons may lead to people meditating. There are two types of people who meditate: spiritual seekers and those seeking to find a deeper meaning in life. Another group is those who are looking to improve their mental or physical health. Of course, there are many other reasons as well. However, most of these can be classified under one of these categories. There has been enough scientific research to support the benefits of meditation and it is now recommended by doctors Mindfulness Training For Teachers.
Physical health
A study based on statistics about health insurance was done. The study found that meditators were 87% less likely to be admitted for heart disease, 55% for benign and malignant tumours, and 30% for infectious diseases. Non-meditators saw more doctors than meditators, with meditators seeing 50% less.
Many sources have told me that at least 80% percent of all diseases are caused by mental and emotional problems, with stress being the most common. If we have perfect mental and emotional health, we will almost never become sick or experience illness at all. This is what some meditate to achieve. Others see this as a side effect of a greater goal.
Mental well-being
People are more interested in meditation as a way to visualize different goals. "The secret" is a book and movie that was popularized. It states that you can draw whatever you want by creating a clear mental picture and feeling what it would feel like to have the life you desire. You can have material items, or a relationship or the job you want. Some people find it easy to feel good inside, feeling happier, more relaxed and clearer.
Meditation helped prisoners to improve their well-being, and also their behaviour.
It doesn't really matter who or what you are. Meditation is for everyone. One group of high-security prisoners in a federal penitentiary, the United States, conducted a fascinating study. The prisoners formed a meditation group that met twice a month with a qualified instructor, and then once a week among themselves, the prisoners-students. A full-time member of the prison's administration staff, a clergy member supervised the group meetings. All students experienced increased mental contentment and peace of mind after only one session with their teacher. This was despite the fact that 90 percent of prisoners had never tried meditation before. The group was monitored by the prison administration, who reported that they were more cooperative, more inwardly focused on self-development, less anxious and less likely to engage in violent behaviour.
Five people started the prison meditation group. It grew in popularity and now has more than 50 students. Each student meditates at least 15 minutes each day. Participants described meditation as a "furlough for souls" and claimed that they felt totally freed from prison's stress and environment. They felt it was an escape, but not into denial or repression but into expanded awareness.
Enlightenment, Oneness
Spiritual seekers may see the positive effects mentioned as side effects of their ultimate goal, which is Enlightenment, Nirvana, or Oneness. They often feel they cannot get too caught up in the mental or external well-being achieved through meditation to achieve this goal. Because the mind cannot achieve this higher level of mental, emotional and physical well-being, their goal goes beyond that. While the mind and thoughts are what most people identify themselves with, this group believes that these things are only outer chatter that can stop them from moving forward. Spiritual masters and gurus often speak of higher levels of consciousness that go beyond the mind. The state in which there are no thoughts.
You have no mind what thoughts? Is it possible to exist or live without it? If they believe it, they are living proof. Others say that thoughts and the mind still exist in their lives, but they are only a background chatter. They can still choose to use the mind when necessary, but it never has control over them. They only use their mind when it is needed. That would be so liberating! It would be liberating to be able sometimes to shut out the mind and thoughts.
Change the world
Meditation can help you achieve whatever your goals may be. Many people find meditation boring and don't have enough patience. You can experience meditative states without needing to learn any meditation technique.
It is truly a time when inner transformation is easier than ever. Take a look at the world as it is. Change is needed now. You might not be able to start today, so get started now.
