Tech Round Up - hardware / software
So i thought i would give you a round up of the hardware and software i use to harness my creative flow. Or sometimes lack of.
So lets start off with hardware.
Apple iMac 27" i7 Ok so i love this computer, the screen is amazing and the power of it is just awesome. It has been upgraded too 12GB of ram for that extra punch. Having the extra screen real estate makes it easy to work within my texteditor and the internet side by side.
Wacom Bamboo Touch Nice little tablet to use, while working with graphics. Much nicer designing a logo or mocking up a web page in Photoshop with a pen and tablet rather than a mouse. The touch features are pretty neat too.
WD 1TB Passport This USB powered drive backs up my internal 1TB main HDD. Pretty handy, its more or less plug and play with this one.
GDrive FW800 1TB This terabyte drive, is used for when i do video editing, i use this as a media and scratch disk. Takes the load off the main HDD when rendering video files.
iPad 32GB I normally use my iPad for magazines. Much easier to keep 10 magazines or more on your iPad than to have them in real form.
iPhone 4 Where would i be without my iPhone? Pretty lost, i use it as my travel iMac. Keep up to date with emails and social media. Also have a few apps to jot down thoughts and ideas.
Bose Desk Speakers Well these dont need any introduction. Some of the best desk speakers i have ever had. Perfect for when you need some music to get you into your creative flow.
That was the hardware, i dont really use a lot to be honest. Nice and simple...ok now for the software:
Adobe Photoshop CS5 Well doesn't every designer of some sort need photoshop in their arsenal?
Adobe Illustrator CS5 Normally use illustrator to play around with vector images, or typography
Coda Well i LOVE this application, I use this for all my front end design work. One day i will get around to thanking the amazing guys at Panic
Transmit Another amazing product from Panic, I use Transmit for all my work with FTP
TextMate This is another brilliant text editor, personally i see it more of a editor for programming / scripting due to its bundles and plugins.
GitHub Great version control software, the GtiHub for mac makes it so much easier to integrate github into you're work flow.
Xcode 4 This will be used once i get my head around iOS development.
MAMP Has to be the easiest way to get a local web server hooked up on your machine. So easy to install and use. Plus its free to use!!
Chrome & Firefox Both browsers are used for the testing, Chrome is used as my main general browser.
Final Cut Pro X Weapon of choice when it comes to video editing. There has been a lot of up roar about the application, but it fits my needs just fine.
Dropbox Well we all know why i use this, its because its awesome. With the iOS apps it makes it so easier to take data where ever you go.
iA Writer Brilliant app from the guys at Information Architects. Gorgeous plain text writing app.
Things Best GTD app i have come across, I have the mac and iPhone app. Its ideal to plan out a project or keep thoughts on the go. Now it syncs over the cloud, so thats even better.
AppCleaner Nice little free app i use to blast applications i dont use into oblivion.
Skype Use this to keep into with friends and talk with potential clients.
Last.fm Scrobbler Gives me all my music needs and more.
So thats my hardware and software down to a tea really. Any questions about what im using or how i use it please drop me a line. Hope you liked the post...
