twice new solo tracks thoughts
Tzuyu - Dive In : It's good to properly hear her vocal range, especially the notes that she almost has to belt. The instrumental is unexpected but easy to listen to. Overall it's a perfectly fine song that compliments her TWICE persona, but it is just fine. 6/10
Chaeyoung - In My Room : Her higher registers makes her sound a lot like Mina, I don't think I've heard her sing like this before. I like the hyperpop energy, the instrumental is cute and bubbly and the slightly suggstive lyrics play with that vibe really well. This is a really fun and kinda addictive song, 8/10.
Dahyun - Chess : Sampling Fur Elise is really chic. I really like her vocal tone in this, I've always been a little unsure of her tone when she's rapping but it works really well in this song. There's a spooky undertone, which reminds me a little of TT. I don't think I'd listen to this regularly, but I do think it's unique. 7/10
Mina - Stone Cold : The song title made me think of Mina's whole "ice princess" vibe, but the song itself is a lot edgier than Mina's persona would've suggested. The layered vocals add so much to the effect of the song very steadily building up from a calm, unbothered rap, to louder and higher vocals. 7/10
Jihyo - ATM : Her vocal tone is really good for the intro rap, I didn't expect her to rap but I'm not surprised that she sounds so good. I normally don't enjoy songs with lyrics bragging about money and fame, but Jihyo hasn't done a song like this and she's more than earned it. 7.5/10
Sana - Decaffeinated : I'm surprised this is the first song i've listened to with a korean verse, that probably works in Sana's favour coz her line delivery sounds more natural. The melody is bright and stands out - it also highlights her vocal tones. It's a good dance track too. 8/10
Momo - Move Like That : I'm highly anticipating the performance of this. It's almost obvious that Momo would have a faster-paced solo song she could dance to, but I like how she really gets to show off her vocals here too. I'm not sure why I didn't realise how much of an all-rounder she is. This song has such an addictive melody and would easily go on my regular rotation if it was longer. 9/10
Jeongyeon - Fix A Drink : I didn't expect to enjoy the cowboy vibes, but once I got over the original surprise of it, it's really enjoyable. The lyrics feel a bit tone deaf (?), they pretty cleanly allude to using alcohol to cope, which is weird because Jeongyeon didn't write them and she's openly had mental and physical health issues. If she had written the lyrics I think I'd feel much less weird about them. 5/10
Nayeon - Meeee : The lyrics are fun, flirty, and the beat compliments them really well. This song is easy to listen to, dance to, and is very infectious. It fits perfectly with the rest of her solo releases. 8/10.
Overall: Kinda bummed that these tracks are all under 2 minutes, but I'm hoping the longer versions will be done at concerts or released later. Most of the songs compliment the persona of the members well, and these aren't genres that TWICE work with for their title tracks, and it's good to hear them experiment like this.
hello there, Eurovision fan that wants to watch it but doesn’t want to support the ebu and their shit decisions: I present to you an alternative
Eurovision Song Contest - Google Drive
This google drive has literally every single Esc for free on it, it is recorded with the British broadcasts commentary, so if you don’t like that I’m sorry but I will say graham norton is very funny
The guy who does it is also very diligent, he got esc 2025 up literally a few hours after it ended, so uh, happy pirating!
eurovision semi 2 - thoughts etc
insanely stacked lineup. it is so so difficult to rank these performances so it does come down to the smallest of errors also i LOVED the hosts' outfits.
Australia: i love the visuals here, his vocals took a minute or two to activate, but low notes are really difficult to hit. the costumes are fabulous, the concept is incredibly fun, he had a lot of stage presence, especially towards to the end. 3 points
Montenegro: insane strong intro, very simply but effective staging. she had so much stage presence i could hardly look away. I'm not even mad about the voice crack because that reinforces these vocals being live and overall magnificent. 7 points
Ireland: I liked that her postcard tied in with the song's concept. The europop sound is refreshing. Even thought I don't love her vocal texture, I can appreciate the vocal technique. the staging should be cool, but the dancers seem really overshadowed by the background. She also didn't have as much stage presence as the last two. no points
It's Latvia: Minor key harmony is so rare to hear and I love it. The staging is amazing, they look like magical wood fairies stepping out of a portal, and the eye makeup gives such a cool effect. The vocals are practically perfect, and the instrumental is such a good compliment. Absolutely amazing. 10 points
Armenia: The best stage presence so far, you can really tell he's enjoying himself. The editing effects are cool, and normally I don't like flashing lights like this, but it works with the song. the instrumental is flawless, I like the use of what I'm assuming is local instruments. I thought the bridge would ruin it but it gives a good energy break 8 points
Austria: I like the intro staging but it feels familiar in a way I can't quite place. It's amazing how it compliments the song overall. The operatic vocals are lovely, but for some reason it's just not my taste. I really admire the variety of vocal technique. I don't really know why, but this performance didn't capture me as much as others. 5 points.
UK: They look absolutely beautiful, the visual concept feels a little too Disney princess for my taste. I fear they were a little offbeat during the first verse, the tempo kept changing pretty fast so I can't blame them. Their harmonies were beautiful, I got chills during the last chorus. big five so no points
Greece: Weird but I can't remember the last time a female artist wore glasses at Eurovision. She doesn't have as much stage presence as most other acts, but her vocals do kind make up for it, as does the staging. It's lovely as a performance, but somehow doesn't stack up to other ballads, which is awful to say but there's some flawless acts in this semi. 1 point
Lithuania: This was generally pretty fine. I didn't like the costumes or the staging, it felt too simple compared to everything else, and the graphics in the back did the heavy lifting visually. The vocals were good, there's nothing they did wrong, but they didn't do enough to stand out to me. no points
Malta: If I was in that arena I'd be screaming KANT at the top of my lungs. Bonkers staging but I love it, it's a fun pop song, and her vocals are solid. The costumes are perfect, maybe the change was a little iffy but the energy shift was amazing. This was a really, really good performance. 7 points.
Georgia: Simple staging but the dancers add a lot. The vocals are good too. It sounds pretty similar to other big energy ballads, but it doesn't do enough to really compete with them. i find the costume change wasn't worth a change. Also, I just don't think I like the song all that much. no points.
France: The sand motif seems very reminiscent of another performance in the recent years, I don't think it adds enough to the staging. I feel like I could buy her outfit at the mall. Also, I'm kinda tired of France sending ballads to Eurovision, even if the ballads are virtually perfect. big five so no points
Denmark: The intro and first verse have great staging. I like the costuming and the vocals are on point for the most part. It kiiinda sounds like Euphoria. This falls into the trap of "it's great, but other acts are just better". It's a perfectly good pop song, but in this semi, that might not be enough. no points
Czechia: The mic is so cool? It's a massive spider? The costume change was pretty unexpected but I loved it. The staging is very simple but that means there's little to distract from the amazing vocals. He switches back and forth from baritone to falsetto notes and his range is incredibly impressive. The choreography feels innovative, especially with the second prechorus. The song has a magical instrumental outro too. 9 points.
Luxembourg: The concept feels super detailed even though the "doll" concept has been done fairly often in general. The vocals aren't super complex, but she sings the song really well. It sounds a little dated somehow, perhaps its the melody being so reminiscent of a lot of songs I've heard before. The genre change is cool, but it feels a little shoved in somehow. no points.
Israel: shoutout that one huge Palestine flag I keep seeing in the audience, I don't know how they snuck it in but I'm glad they did. no points
Germany: The neon string instrument is a really fun element, especially to contrast the massive speaker set behind it. I'm glad Germany finally sent a song in German, its a solid club song. I think Germany did something fairly simple in comparison to a lot of other acts, but they did it really well. 2 points
Serbia: The intro vocals weren't hitting, and the staging felt too simple, almost derivative. I was honestly just bored for the first half of the song. The pyrotechnics and dancers weren't enough to overcome that. no points
Finland: I don't think I've really heard anything like this song before, ever. She has good stage presence, and she looks amazing too. I like how the energy of the songs changes from intense to intense without giving me whiplash. She kept up well with the tempo change, and her being suspended in the air was a super cool visual and made perfect sense with the rest of the performance. 4 points
eurovision semi-1 quick thoughts
on the postcards - super fun idea to have the artists basically being tourists around switzerland.
on the stage - love love LOVE the idea of a big frame at the front and the graphics are absolutely massive, i'm so loving basel's vibes.
Iceland - i did not think this song would be so much fun omg the little dance break on the boat is so sick, the graphics are very creative, the rhinestones are a great choice for a stage costume, and they seem like theyre having a lot of fun. plus, i'm always a sucker for a final chorus in a higher octave. i may put this on my eurovison playlist. 8 points
Poland - the intr is kinda insane, i love the graphics they used for the staging, i'm not sure i'm really into the costumes. the choreography is cool, the chorus weirdly let me down coz her vocals are wonderful but the instrumental is missing something. the violin feels random, as does the bit where she's suspended mid-air (it's super cool but I don't get the purpose). 5 points
Slovenia - I know this is abt his wife and her health problems and it's a very touching concept but my god these lyrics are. very point blank. no room for interpretation. the falsetto notes feel misplaced. I wonder if it would sound better in slovenian. him being upside down is cool but it looks a bit weird. otherwise the staging is kinda boring. I feel bad about it, but no points.
Estonia - insane having this right after Slovenia. anyways this was so fun!! i'm not sure how italians feel abt it, i've seen lots of very different opinions, but as a non-european i loved it. the staging is fantastic, his vocals are doing what they need to do, and the crazed fan was just chef's kiss (pun intended). everything felt so perfectly thought out and the crowd evidently went nuts too. 10 points
Spain - easily my fav postcard (yummy). anyways, the performance was fun, it isn't eurovision without a woman dancing in a silver bodysuit. I like how the song kept changing, it wasn't one-note and had a good mix of high, medium, and low energy moments. no points coz they're already in the final.
Ukraine - i love these costumes, they look super cool esp w the hazy lighting. the female singers are killing it, the male singer's notes feel a little flat, perhaps by design but they still sound weird. I don't love the song, but the instrumental break is nice. no points
Sweden - second fav postcard because of how silly goofy they are. the staging is wonderful, the little sausage is so funny, i love their acting skills and the costumes just work so well, particularly the juxtaposition of the suits to the towels. it's always a treat to hear lower, baritone male vocals in eurovison, from what i've seen, male acts tend to hit the highest possible notes so the baritone vocals are refreshing. also if im not mistaken, there's a few lines in finnish, which is cool to see. ik sweden literally just hosted, but let's have them do it again. 12 points.
Portugal - i feel like i've seen this entire act a million times before. i don't like the harmonies, or the melody, or the staging. perhaps the only thing i like is the instrumental. i was just kinda bored. no points.
Norway - I like his costume, the dancers' costumes are a bit meh. I'm usually a fan of an anti-drop chorus, but it didn't go hard enough. the vocals are nice, the choreography is solid. the lighter sfx are crazy fun. I wish the staging was more interesting, but the fire is nice. 4 points
Belgium - The staging graphics are really cool, and i can tell the low notes are hard to reach, but there's something missing, perhaps a backtrack to fill in the space like in the second verses? the high notes are super sick tho. I didn't expect to like this, but I see why so many people do. 6 points
Italy - fabulous staging, the perfect rock ballad, i appreciate the subtitles. the harmonica is so perfect too. I absolutely loved this performance. they're also in the big five
Azerbaijan - the staging is. fine. the vocals are not. the falsetto isn't very appealing and the song sounds quite generic except for the post-chorus instrumentals. no points.
San Marino - Incredibly funny for them to do a song about Italy. i'm not sure if the artist is the dj or one of the singers or all three. but i like the drop chorus, and the masks, and the statue in the bg is funny. the song is catchy, which helps keep my attention. 3 points.
Albania - her costume is absolutely amazing, and so are her vocals. the dancing feels a little improvised, perhaps its just the sleeves weighing her down. the male vocals are pretty one note, but it's a damn good note. It helps break up what could otherwise be a pretty standard eurovision balkan ballad. i love the ending instrumentals too. 7 points
Netherlands - A french song is an interesting choice, especially since the french lyrics aren't particularly complex. They're peppered in with the same regularity as Espresso Macchiato, which would've been fine if it was done as a goof, but the song does seem to take itself too seriously so the stereotypical lyrics just fall flat. The violins are nice, but I can't tell if they're live. The vocals are fine too. There's just nothing encouraging me to really like the song. 1 point
Croatia - with a song called "poison cake", I would've liked to see some kinda evil bakery rather than a cauldron and some smoke. the vocals are versatile which I appreciate, I like his costuming, but the whole thing doesn't seem particularly cohesive. his vocals were the best bit. 2 points.
Switzerland - i'm often a lot less inclined towards ballads, but this one is done really well. The instrumental is done with almost medical precision, the vocals are lovely, and the staging is simple but the camera sticks close to her so its not bad. I like the dramatic third chorus/bridge, especially the camera movements. They did everything right with this song/performance. 9 points.
Cyprus - Very creative intro staging, lots of vetruvian man energy. I don't quite understand the lyrics and its storyline. I liked the choreography, especially with the staging. but quite honestly, the lyrics and vocals were a bit of a let down, the high notes weren't being hit in a particularly pleasing way. no points.
my boyfriend made me cookies a few days ago as a surprise but they didnt turn out like he wanted. I asked for them anyways, because cookies are cookies, and i finally tried them today. They taste exactly like my grandmother's cookies (she wasnt a very good baker) and I haven't had those in nearly 10 years. I cant really describe how im feeling, but i like how im feeling <3
Aww that's so sweet!!!
From making you a sweet treat, to them having such a strong memory associated with them, this is so cute and perfect!! I hope he always makes you cookies!!
