do people know today is also the 50th anniversary of the first successful mars lander?

Viking 1, a NASA mission launched in august 1975, was a spacecraft sent to mars consisting of an orbiter and a lander. the lander touched down on the martian surface on july 20, 1976 in the chryse planitia and was the first successful landing of a man-made object on mars and beamed back the first clear image of the martian surface, seen below.

so not only is today the 57th anniversary of the moon landing, its also the 50th anniversary of the first successful lander on mars <3
