It seemed almost like a scene from a comic book. One moment, Team Harmony and their two targets seemed to be the only people inside of the Oceanic Museum. But then, the next…

A young woman crashed through the remains of one of the windows that had just been shattered by the Sacred Child of Lugia’s powers, landing on her feet near the ongoing battle, and striking a pose as though she had totally expected to do all of that perfectly without landing on her face.

“Stop what you’re doing and surrender!” she yelled at the masked men, instantly recognizing them as up to no good, because what kind of good person would disguise their identity like that, right?

“Victory Star is here to stop your evil deeds!”

    Saki was sitting on the floor, cradling her Eevee as the winds went crazy around them. The arrival of Victory Star drew her attention to the window that she had failed to break, what a failure of a tantrum, and to the red haired boy in front of her. Akane stood protectively in front of Saki, even as the masked men seemed to be drawing closer with interest.

    “ Does it look like yelling is going to solve anything?! “ Akane snapped at Victory Star, after the initial shock of her arrival wore off, “ They just killed her Eeve– “

   “ RICKET IS FINE! I JUST NEED TO GET TO A POKEMON CENTER! “ Lugia child shrieked. Her tantrum resumed, with a storm beginning to form off the sea and roll into town. “ HE’S FINE! “

     They could exchange all of the pretty words they wanted, but Team Harmony was more interested in Saki. More specifically, the magical girl tantrum show she was putting on. But they recognized that Victory Star was in the way.

     So, without much thought put into it, one of the panicked members released a Plusle and pointed at the adorably dressed super hero.

     “ G-Get her! Paralyze her with a Thunder Wave! “

                                               “ Hey, we can’t go attacking people--- “

     But the paranoid member in a Plusle mask acted before the sensible Minun masked member. His Plusle rush at Victory Star, cheeks bright and electricity coming out in waves.

 No sooner had Music found the ladder - and seen Josie (who was still oblivious to his presence apparently) go down it with Growlithe in tow - than he’d noticed the flames.  He could smell and see the smoke rising up from the hole in the center of the tower.  

“Oh that isn’t good….!” he muttered before following Josie down the ladder.  He didn’t make it very far, however; a resounding thud from a certain girl jumping down the center hole caused the ladder to wobble.  The shaking of the ladder caused the Nuzlocker to lose his grip, and he fell flat on his back onto the ground below, just narrowly missing the fire.

Katsumi, this was a kidnapping, not a reenactment.

      The Masked Ho-Oh was suddenly mad aware of unmasked newcomers. He had no blame in his heart for the other team members, who he knew were still getting used to doing physical jobs for Team Harmony. He side glanced at the captured Pokemon and was about to resolve to trust the team to clean up this mess when, of all things, fire broke out. In an already burnt, wooden, fragile tower.

   “ What is going on?! “ The floor above them was beginning to crumble. The Legendary Pokemon went out of his mind for the moment and he recalled having sent a large number of members up top to deal with the intruders. “ Chance of plans! Anyone without water Pokemon, evacuate! “

     He turned to the Legendary Beasts that were held captive... Ah, this was a loss. But he knew when to fold his cards. It’s one of his tropes. The Masked Ho-Oh rushed to the Pokemon, starting with Suicune, and began tearing back the burdens. Hissing, frustrated with himself for not keeping a better eye on the situation, “ Come on, come on. You’re a water-type, right? Don’t let this place burn up with so many people in here..! “

     Raikou was like “so long assholes, my freezing is gone ttfn. “

     Jarrid was one of the strongest trainers she knew, and generic villain Pokemon were... not. It wasn’t hard for them to scatter the opponents, some even leaving just out of fright.. Also, because suddenly Team Harmony was ordered not just to retreat, but to evacuate. Everything was on fire.

   “ How--- Jarrid! We need to do something! “ Diana cried out in alarm. Not only were a lot of people trapped here, but Pokemon as well. Her Crobat swung a wide circle around them and chattered to the Sacred Children.

     “ Everything is on fire! They sealed the exits before! “

    It was a bad situation, made worse because Team Harmony had tried to prevent anyone from coming in. Now it was harder to get out. Diana turned to Jarrid, trembling with panic but maintaining a tough expression.

      “ Jarrid! I’m going to get the evacuation organized. You can handle the Pokemon, right? “

 Flower smiled and waved a little before replying telepathically, Good day~ Ah..how painful. Hold still, ‘zis won’t take long, young one. Her voice, filled with calm and pleasantries then first placed a hand on his gash, especially to stop the bleeding for a bit. The Psychic started to heal him with a combination of her Recover and Heal Pulse.

Humra washed a towel, drenching it with water-then having it dry a bit before coming over, flopping on the bed across Lucas, and looking at his wounds again, “Oh-..and this is Flower, my friend. She’ll take care of you, d-definitely..~” She watched Flower heal up the wound with no time at all, and afterwards, Humra came in with a wash cloth to dry the blood off his face. 

“It might sting from the swelling…I’m sorry..” Humra apologized, being gentle and murmuring, “You need an ice pack after this for this swelling…blasted stairs..” She chirped and gazed down at him. Smiling she chuckled,

“Please be more careful next time? O-oh-!” She looked towards his wrists again, “…This..was all stairs..? But both wrists are sprained…” The girl blinked, saddened and concerned for him.

    She was so sweet and gentle... Both of them, actually. Lucas looked up at Flower, smiling softly with his teeth secretly clenched so as to not cry out in pain. But the bleeding did stop, finally, and suddenly he was faced with Humra and a towel.

    An angel, he reaffirmed to himself. Or maybe this was just what humans were like, and he really was a monster.

    “ ... Mm. Just stairs. “ Lying again only solidified his theory. Lucas lifted his gaze to meet hers, setting his injured hands down in hopes that she wouldn’t worry about them. “ I’m sorry for troubling you again... but uh... I spoke to you again... Was I late? “

    He was glad that Silver would not be accompanying him through Hoenn. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to see Humra again.

    “Everyone your family adopts is so cute,” Lydia squeaked. She bounced eagerly against Dimitri, “Let’s go sit down and get some hot chocolate! My team needs a good, long stretch. Especially Aerial, she hasn’t been in a ball in so long. And I’m sure she’s super eager to see you again.”

   “ Sounds good. Tau, want to join us all-- “

   “ Oooh Tau-y, your friends sound so cuute! “ It had been a real struggle to catch up with Tau. Fortunately, Tau had spoke a lot more than Suzy was used to hearing and she quickly cataloged the voices of her friends. Yuuto and Dimitri... She wasn’t sure if those were the right names, but hey! She had a lot of free PokeTechs to give out. Might as well tag them anyway, and keep track of Tau’s friends.

     Bouncing over, the blind girl smiled widely. When Dimitri made a confused chirping noise, she was able to direct her blind eyes at his face. “ Tau-y and I are handing out free PokeTechs today! I got two left. Want em, boys? “

     Yuuto honestly cared more about Tau than PokeTechs right now.

 “Lucas~” But Humra paused and immediately gasped at all of the blood, bruises, and swelling! “Lucas-! Are you-? Oh dear-oh no, no..are you..? Oooh..please sit down..” She lightly guided him to the nearby bed, and started looking at him, “What kind of fall was this..?” She murmured and looked down at both of his wrists. No-not only that, but his aura clearly showed he was in pain and upset!

“Here-here..don’t worry.. uhm..” Before calling to Flower, she was already by the bed, patting both children on the top of the heads gently. She hummed, content and happy. 

“Flower..Flower could you heal him..?”

The Gardevoir immediately nodded but before Humra turned to Lucas, “What all hurts..? I’m so sorry I couldn’t come sooner-you look..you look awful-like someone beat you up. What kind of stairs were those..? Aaah..I need to get some towels for you-you won’t stop bleeding..a-ah..” She glanced to the bathroom, looking for towels.

     The conflict between his guilt and appreciate was as strong as ever. It even stunned him at first, especially with how quickly she guided him to the bed and had him sit down. Did he really look that bad..? Was he really asking that question? His face was covered in blood smears, some from trying to wipe his tears and the others from the gash still actively bleeding on his cheek. The bruising on his neck and shoulder still ached, and he was reminded of it when he tried to speak again.

     “ I fell down a, uh, lot of them...? I took a flight~. heheh?“ Oh, how he hated to lie...! But it came quite naturally to someone like him. As she went searching for towels, he looked to Flower shyly. A Gardevoir... Could she tell what an awful person he was, or...? “ O-Oh... H-here... and here...”

      He awkwardly motioned along his neck, at the ugly purple bruising that Chron had left behind, and then at the gash and accompanied swelling on his face. The hand injuries didn’t cross his mind. He worried that if they went away then he’d forget the lesson he supposedly learned with them.

                       Are you trying to make it worse?

     ... His hand fell into his lap again, gaze following Humra once more. Then lowering to the floor, the look of a guilty conscience. “ Thank you for coming at all...? “

     It had been only three years ago when they had their first “omiai.” Because one family was very Eastern and the other Western, the combined understanding turned it into more a playdate. Thirteen year old Lucas Silverwing had been invited to the Shiroyume Estate, where Saki and him would be allowed to have a supervised date. At the end, Saki got to decide if she would accept Lucas as a candidate in her Wedlocke.

     When he was told he was accepted, Lucas was on cloud nine. Apparently the little date had gone really well.

     “ First off, she’s actually quite pretty. I was kind of worried I’d be wedlocked to someone boring, but she’s cute. “ He’d been sitting on his bed, teasing the boy who slept in the bed across from him. “ But what was even more amazing was when she started singing... I just played piano, and she came up with lyrics on the spot, and sang them beautifully. And the lyrics were just... wow. I asked her to write them down for me. “

      “ Is that so? “ His friend grinned teasingly back at him, “ Sounds like you fell in love with her! “

       “ Huh? Well-- “ Flustered for a moment... and then, with a frown and softer, secretive voice. “ Yeah. So what? “

      The mirror blinked at him, surprised by the confession. “ L-Lucas, I was kidding. You’ve only gone on one date... “

     “ So what? “ Lucas repeated, “ I really liked her... She thinks about things so deeply, and she’s so smart, and pretty, and talented, and sweet, a-and... “

      “ ... Okay, I won’t tease you. “ His reflection laughed, “ I’m happy it worked out so well. “

     “ Yeah, me too... “ Lucas fell back on his bed and sighed. “ Ah, geez. Look at me. Love at first sight doesn’t suit the heir to the Silverwing family. “

     “ You mean it’s impulsive and a sign of poor business decisions? “

     “ ... Don’t put it that way. “

     “ Sorry. “

     “ Don’t be. “ Sitting up again, Lucas narrowed his eyes at his friend. “ Now I just need to win that Wedlocke... You need to teach me all that you know, okay, Joshua? I can’t even date her if I don’t win some badges! “

      He’d been zoning out again. He seemed to do that a lot when faced with the ocean. The ferry had been optional, but Lucas wasn’t about to pass up a chance to take a trip across his beloved ocean. The way that the sun and salt air were unhindered by buildings was relaxing and made him doze off.

     Lucas yawned and stretched his arms over his head. The hum of the ferry was loud and no one else was on deck... So, after double checking that no one was looking, he took out his ocarina and arranged his purple, bruised fingers over the holes. 

     Meeting Saki again had him all emotionally tied up. He really had to win this Wedlocke... He had to leave a good impression on Saki. He liked her so much. He would be devastated if he was tossed out of the running for her hand in marriage.

      First drawing in a deep breathe... then beginning to play Lugia’s song. Even though his fingers felt like they might fall off, Lucas played the song at a regular speed and with his usual dedication. It wasn’t the same as Humra’s singing, but it gave him a good enough courage boost. By the time that the ferry arrived, Lucas was confident that he could do this.

                                                                                           I won’t let you down...!

  Immediately Humra looked down at her holocastor and gasped, “He’s…here?” She looked up to the psychic, “Let’s go~” 

“Mmm~” Flower agreed, teleporting the both of them to the front desk of the hotel. Hotels like these were always nice, Humra loved going into them and seeing all kinds of different people and pokemon. But this was not the time for that! She asked for someone by the name of Lucas. Getting his room number, both trainer and pokemon rushed to the room and immediately knocked at the door. 

“Lucas?” Humra placed her ear against the door, chirping with worry. He was hurting, he was hurt, and that was bad! But..she was calm. Flower made sure of that. 

Gardevoir are lovely creatures. No matter what.

      Crybaby Lucas flinched when he heard her voice. Ahhh she was fast. He felt so stupid (again) and selfish (always) for making her come. Breathing in, he carefully lifted one of the napkins from his blood napkin pile and stupidly dabbed his face with it. He was just so desperate to get those tears off ASAP, before Humra saw...!!! Apparently so much so that facing her with blood on his face was a better option.

    Well, he was still bleeding anyway.

    “C-Coming...!!! “ After that, he collected the gorey pile and threw it away. After washing his hands (which were still bruised and sprained,) he went to open the door. Twisting the door made him flinch, but he did his best to smile through the pain.

    “ S-sorry for the... t-trouble... “ He gritted his teeth and swallowed any whining that came with using these purple hands.

  At this point, Humra jumped up and started to scurry around at that first text. Oh no. Oh no, oh no..what was Htel, what was Htel??? Immediately calling out to Flower, the both of them rushed outside. 

[txt] Its okay, don’t worry-stay calm, take deep breathes. 

[txt] Where’s this…Htel?And I’ll be there soon! [txt]

She whined a little bit until Flower stopped her from pacing. The Gardevoir placed both of her hands on the little girl’s cheeks and started to take deep breathes with her. 

“O-oh..” Humra chirped, confused at first but nodding, “Okay..o-okay..” She took deep breathes a bit more, taking in the fresh air..especially by the river, “Okay..okay…thank you. I-I really need to get a handle of learning ‘Calm Mind’ like Nichole..huh?”

Flower only hummed and smiled, before giving her bird trainer a light hug.

   If he knew what kind of panic he was putting her in, he would have retreated. Even now, as he tried to slow down, he debated retreating. He was a terrible person at his core. He had only met her once, and now he was asking her for a favor---

                                YOU MONSTER.

                                          --- he shuddered, gently tapping in his reply with sore fingers.

   He managed the text, and even sent it. It earned a light laugh out of him. 

   “ ... A friend would tell her he was fine and not to worry, huh? “ Lucas chuckled at himself again. He was glad you couldn’t text tears.

Drabble | Clumsy

     When he returned to the estate, Lucas found he was just on time. Carrying his good shoes in a box, he hurried to the family’s actual honest-to-gosh ballroom for his dance lessons. It was still hard to picture himself dancing... Well, hard to picture himself dancing. He knew what he looked like dancing. Like looking into a mirror, he’d seen how he would look in nice clothes at nice parties.

       But when he arrived at the designated location, he was met not by an instructor... But by ‘his’ parents. They stood there, stern... angry... hateful... He knew what those feelings looked like in someone’s eyes. He just hadn’t expected to see it in theirs. They were his parents, after all. They had once been so pleasant... Seeing them like this, Lucas couldn’t deny the facts. Though this couple had once been pleasant to him, they had never liked him. And that had not changed.

     Even so, he bowed politely when he saw them (old habits die hard,) and smiled warmly to contrast their plain hatred.

    “ Good afternoon... ‘Mother.’ ‘Father.’ “

     Naturally, that had all gone terribly. First, scolded right off the back for addressing them that way. Was he being sarcastic? They’d asked. Are you trying to make it worse?

     Then his father took his hands tightly... and the questioning began. About what he was doing in Aquacorde. About who he was with. Did he understand what he could have done to the family reputation? To his own reputation? Did he want that? No? Then stay here and do as you’re told.

      As the scolding went on, the other man squeezed and twisted his hands tightly. He liked to think that he had tough hands, made strong by days of hardwork. Like when he would prepare meals, or polish silver, or be the opposing team in sports, or the deckhand when sailing, or... any of those old servant tasks he did. The things he did a butler. That was all much easier.

     Regardless, his hands were squeezed raw. The boy didn’t comment. He didn’t complain about how his hand really hurt... Later he’d learn it had been sprained and even find a bruise. And shortly after, proof that this had been on purpose.

     His lessons were promptly cancelled. Instead, Lucas was to stay in his room and not bother his busy parents. It wasn’t the worst punishment ever. The door to Lucas’ room was firmly locked and no one was allowed in there. Instead, he stayed on an attic floor. Which was nicer. There was a big window here that overlooked the ocean. He hid his mask and scrapbook again, then settled down on his bed. Lifting his hands, he saw the swelling had begun and realized it hurt to squeeze his hand shut... 

                                                      ... But that was fine. Calling them ‘mother’ and ‘father’ with his face and voice? Smiling at them when he looked like this? Acting normal, like nothing was amiss... Like nothing was missing.

     He rolled onto his side and shut his eyes, refusing to cry. But the tears came out anyway, and it hurt to use his hands to dry them. Even the words hurt, like spoken knives aimed at himself,

                                                                     “ Why me, Lugia? Why did you save me? “

 Fll equals..fall, then. Humra nodded, slightly proud of herself for deciphering these texts. It kind of made her feel like an Archeologist of some sort, or someone who deciphered new languages! And now..was the second part that could be hard.

Htel?

…What on earth..? Htel..Hit-tell? Was he hit? And what was ‘I ant bandsges”? She recognized ‘bandages’ as that potential word but what about all the others. ‘Hit-tell’..and ‘I ant.’ She frowned thinking of it until she gave up. That Arcehology feeling going away. Bye Indiana Humra. 

[txt] Htel..? ‘I ant bandsges? I’m sorry, what do those mean? I’m sorry if you’re hurting too much-don’t over-exert yourself. Uh..

[txt] …Take a nap?

     Ahhh noo! Well, maybe. Could a nap solve this? 

     A drop of blood slid down his cheek and hit the pillow. Darned face! Darned boots! What did Chron wear on her shoes? Knives? He looked in the mirror and realized that his bruises were getting really ugly. Was that swelling? Saki would never consider him like this...!!!

     He was beginning to panic. He could see everything ending now, all because his fingers hurt like heck! So he tried to slow down his texting and do it one letter at a time. Which gave him a lot of time to think things through...

   [txt] i’m sorry. i do not know wat do. [/txt]

  She squinted at the second part of the text. Did..he feel down? But he says he’s okay? Or..was it he filed down? No-that wouldn’t make sense at all! Humra sounded it out before reaching the conclusion of the second part. Immediately her shoulders shot up.

[txt] You fell down? Oh my-want me to come over? Do you need heal pulse? O-or anything else? I can bring Flower over to make you feel no pain. I’m not busy at all, though, don’t worry! 

[txt] Where are you? You’re in a safe place? [txt] 

Her feathers were ruffled…both figuratively and literally with her silver feathers growing in her hair. Having feathers was weird business.

But she did appreciate the more floof going on in her hair when she dealt with emotions. 

For now, Humra was more concerned with Lucas though. Definitely for potentially falling down! Perhaps, and hopefully, he said he was feeling down? Much better than falling…

     His stomach and heart were twisting together oddly. Was that even possible? On one hand, he felt guilty for troubling her. Humra was so sweet, and kind, and generous with those feelings. The image of her worrying over him worried him right back... On the other hand, it would be nice to see her again. And that first gave him excited butterflies, and then an annoying ache in his chest.

     It was all very overwhelming, and made his texting skills that much more... not there at all.

                                    Can’t use the bandages... or spell, apparently!

  Humra was reading her chapters for school while watching the news of what was happening. Ever since learning about Satou and her..perhaps disappearance? She wanted to be sure and be ever diligent. Her feeds was filled with news, articles..anything that could potentially alert her. On top of that, the birds-both wild and not-could tell her what’s been happening around the region as well. She definitely had her sources for information. 

Everywhere.

…That is until the text came up. Looking down, the white-haired gasped and immediately smiled widely. 

[txt] Nope! I’m not. And you don’t have to call me back, I’m no lady silly~ [txt] 

[txt] Are you okay? Do you need something? O: [txt]

    Did he need something? 

    Lucas looked at the open first aid kit on his hotel room bed, and all of the bloody napkins and wash clothes. He didn’t want Humra to see him covered in blood, but... He couldn’t let Saki see him looking this pathetic again. Then she might not want to ever get married... And if she showed no interest at all, she was basically nailing his coffin shut...

     [txt] You are a lady to me. [/txt] 

     He started with that. It was important! And then, after weighing his selfish options and judging his selfish heart... and typing clumsily, with nervous and shaking (&sore) hands:

     [txt] I fll down. Im OK. Ae you bsy? [/txt]

   He still felt terrible. Emotionally and physically.

   Emotionally terrible was okay. He deserved that. After letting those bullies attack those girls, he deserved it. Apparently, the Kalos Harmony members thought they needed to get Sacred Children “at all cost.” His work was cut out for him if he was going to keep them non-violent. But at the end of it all, he knew he deserved the pain of having that antidote tossed back. He hoped that those girls were okay now....

    He deserved the physical pain too. Chron hadn’t really kicked his shoulder, but his neck. It hurt to take deep breathes and he had cuts from her adventure boots all down his cheek. Which was where the distress really kicked in. He was in a hotel tonight, expected to go visit Saki tomorrow... To meet her personally for the first time...

    “ And I look terrible. “ He reminded his reflection. Why did faces bleed so much? Why wouldn’t the blood stop completely? Ahh this sucked! He hated looking this way... And his hands were still sore from being scolded by his parents... 

     ... So it was okay, right? He had no choice, right? He picked up his Holocaster. She was his friend... It would be okay to lean on a friend sometimes, right?

       Cautiously, he typed out a text message---
