Election 2016.....
I have been incredibly quiet with the election but this is my take on it:
Trump won. Does it suck? Yes. Is it the end of the world? No. So what did we learn, we learned that every vote does matter, that when people say "oh my vote doesn't matter" IT DOES MATTER. You have been made to feel your vote doesn't matter or you are lying to yourself that the only reason you do not want to vote is because your candidate that you wanted didn't win and you are just in a state of protest.
Protesting right now will not help, Trump will be our next President and there is nothing one can do about it now. He will take office in January and that is when we can start doing something about it, we can get up and start demanding he "drain the swamp" and that he protects the working person. When he doesn't we need to get out and vote in the midterm elections in two years, we need to elect a congress that will fight against him, we need to get out in 4 years and vote in a candidate that will beat him.
You are angry, you are scared, I am scared, the only people right now who probably are not scared are white straight men, everyone else is gonna bunker down for a bit but they should be ready to do what ever they can going forward. They said he won because it was of the angry vote, well if he won because of that let me say this to those who are are scared: Get angry when it comes time to vote in the next election, vote not with hatred but vote with purpose, vote with the idea that the state of fear you are in is to great of a risk, vote with the idea that we can do better, vote with the intentions of trying to make things better.
What did we learn in 2016? Every vote does matter, stop pretending that it doesn't.
