Whoa! I’ve been logged off since I posted yesterday (focusing real hard on midterms) and I’m blown away by the response to my little jealous Sonny drabble! I’m so happy you all are enjoying it :)

It was no secret that you and Rafael were friends. You’d worked with him when he was prosecuting in Brooklyn, and when he caught wind that Liv put in for a new detective, he recommended you. You were looking to transfer out of narcotics, and the opportunity was perfect.
Sonny hit it off with you right away, finding that you worked together beautifully; you’d proven yourself to be a great detective and loyal partner. Beyond that, your personalities meshed naturally and the longer you worked together, the more you found common ground and grew closer.
Sonny knew that if anything, he should be grateful for your friendship with Barba, because otherwise, he may never have met you. But somehow, grateful wasn’t the right word.
Jealous was more like it.
It was the way you and Barba were around each other that was slowly driving him nuts.
The way you laughed at Barba’s jokes. The way his eyes lit up when you smiled. The way you matched each other’s wit tit for tat.
Sonny had come to terms with his feelings for you, and thought you might even feel the same way — Fin certainly (vocally) thought so — but just when he’d work up the courage to ask you out, your dynamic with Barba always seemed to throw him off.
The way you two bantered before leaving the precinct echoed in his head, and it was making the drive to bring a suspect in for questioning feel eternal.
“So, you and Barba...” Sonny started dumbly, fingers strumming against the steering wheel.
“Me and Barba..?” you raised a brow, wondering where this train of thought was headed as you took a bite of your donut.
“Nothin’,” he dismissed with a wave, keeping his eyes on the road. “I just always forget you two were friends before you came to SVU,” he lied. “I didn’t know he was capable of smiling that much.”
“Ha-ha,” you mock laughed, taking a sip of your coffee. “He smiles plenty, with or without me.”
Sonny shrugged.
You eyed him curiously when he didn’t respond.
“Why does it bother you?”
“It doesn’t.”
“It doesn’t take a trained detective to see that you’re lying,” you reasoned. Sonny merely kept his eyes on the road, avoiding your gaze.
Your usually sunny partner had never been this distant before, and it was throwing you off.
“Seriously, what’s going on?”
There was a beat of silence.
“Are you dating him?” he blurted out all at once. You recoiled a bit, taken aback by the sudden question.
“No,” you replied automatically, brows knit together in confusion. “Are you dating Rollins?”
“What? No,” he waved his hands frantically and dismissively; you were grateful he’d parked. “I’m sorry,” he said quickly, neck flushed in embarrassment at the way it came out. “That... I shouldn’t have—”
“Now that we’ve sufficiently invaded each other’s privacy, why do you have such an interest in my love life all of a sudden?”
“Why do you have such an interest in mine?” he retorted easily, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips when it was your turn to flush.
You merely crossed your arms without a word, looking away.
The thought of clearing the air and finally telling you how he felt in a dirty cop car just didn’t feel right.
If he was going to talk to you about this, he was going to do it right.
“What are you doin’ tonight?”
You chuckled incredulously. “You blurt something like that out, and then you ask me on a date?”
The flush crept up his neck. “C’mon. Have dinner with me. It, uh... doesn’t have to be a date if you don’t want it to be.”
“No,” you clarified, opening your door. “You’re ridiculous, but I want it to be.” you grinned, shutting the door behind you.
Sonny grinned from ear to ear, biting down on his lower lip in a feeble attempt to suppress his smile before following suit.

Rafael is more than a little dumbfounded, even though you stopped using contraception.
“Wait what? You’re pregnant? We’re having a baby?”
You smiled and nod, loving his reaction. “Yes… Papi.”
“I’m going to be a father,” he whispers.
It’s such a joy to watch the smile spreading across his face as the news sinks in.
The first thing he wants to do is call Lucia and Liv. It breaks your heart to stop him, but you haven’t had your first scan. This leads to Rafael getting slightly grumpy until he understands that you are afraid of announcing the news so early since the risk of miscarriage is so high in the first trimester. Once he knows this though, he is happy to keep his lips sealed until you are ready to share the news.
Morning sickness… it’s a bitch. Even more so seeing as your Barba fetus clearly has no respect for your daily schedule. But no fear, it’s Rafael to the rescue! It’s almost like he can sense your distress and often shows up with ginger ale and crackers. One time he shows up at work and you burst into tears from feeling so tired and nauseous. When you finally calm down and are feeling better from nibbling at the snacks he brought, you finally ask him how he knows when to show up.
“Rafi, how do you know?”
“Know what, Cariño?”
“When I’m feeling like this?”
“Can we just say it’s my sixth sense and leave it at that?” he smirks.
“Definitely not. Spill it.”
“Not your guts right?”
This earns him an angry poke.
“Ok ok,” Rafael laughs, “well every time you feel sick, your heart rate goes through the roof.”
“Well that’s not abnormal.”
“No, it’s not. But every time it happens, I get an alert on my phone.”
“What? Why? How?”
“Remember when you borrowed my fitbit and never gave it back?”
I promise to get some more writing done soon, loves! I have a lot of prompts in my inbox and I’m so sorry for taking this long. Life’s been more than a little crazy and then with midterms coming up, it’s eaten into the amount of time I have to be on here. Thanks for hanging with me and I hope to be posting regularly again soon!

-and sometimes when you can’t reach things in the kitchen, he just kinda watches you struggle just so he can look at ur ass bc he is such an ass man, but then he always comes up behind you and gets whatever it was that you needed then kisses the top of your head.
-CUDDLING. HE IS LITERALLY A GIANT HOLDING YOU SO CLOSE AND YOU FEEL SO PROTECTED.
-Hey, you don’t really have to reach down to grab his dick.
-HE WOULD USE IT AGAINST YOU SO MUCH, like holding things above his head, putting his arm on top of your head, making short jokes.
-but he would also love it, he would love that you are small enough that he can just lift up and carry around, or that you have to ask him to bend down so you can kiss him, he likes that when you sit in his lap, he can see over your shoulder, he is just so protective and in love with you.
