For the introverted Gisher...
Gishwhes has been something I’ve wanted to do for many years but, with being an introvert, it’s not that simple. However, since this year I’ve joined my friend’s team I’ve done some digging into how to be prepared and make Gishwhes easier on those who might not be able to do the tasks that involve going into public, so that way you feel that you are joining in and doing your bit.
1. Items and miscellaneous stuff
Collecting bits and bobs is crucial for the hunt because you never know what’s gonna be on the list. It could be: make a hat from buttons and you find that you haven’t got any buttons.
So, before the hunt, collect anything and everything. You can get straws and stirrers from any coffee shop without having to ask for them. Buttons and fabric can be found in any charity shop and the Pound shop is AMAZING for weird items.
Other good materials to stock up on include: sweet wrappers, sticky tape, glue, plasters, cardboard boxes, beads, glitter and watermelons (they might be an item but they make a good hunt snack if not.)
2. Be the puzzle master!
There will always be a puzzle on the list, so use the time to wise up on codes, different puzzles and crosswords. By the time the hunt comes around, no puzzle will be too difficult (it will be awfully difficult but lets have some team spirit here...I’m not doing the anagrams though. Never.)
3. Knit away....quickly
There could be something to do with knitting, and a week is a very short time to knit something when there’s hundreds of other tasks to do. So whilst you’re waiting, knit lots of squares and then you only have to sew them together for the item! (This isn’t cheating, it’s constructive planning.)
4. Practice not sleeping.
Let’s face it, none of us will get any sleep. Practice staying up late/getting up early and then you’ll get used to not sleeping as much. Or you could get as much sleep as you can now and face inevitable doom when the hunt comes along.
That’s all I got for now, but for the main part of it, have lots of fun and enjoy the mental week that you have with your friends. It’s going to be amazing and you’ll have the best week of your life!
