Paul Smith - Book Signing After visiting the “HELLO, my name is Paul Smith" exhibition late last year and being suitably swept by his demeanor and boy-ish charm, Sir Paul Smith decided to hold a book signing at the Design Museum. Luckily I was free and so took the chance to meet our British icon, whilst getting my copy of his latest book signed (Hello My Name Is Paul Smith, Smith, Sudjic and Loveday - £25, Amazon). Paul Smith is a designer that prides himself on adolescent whit which is evident through much of his work. From the lining of a suit to printing bicycles on silk scarves, Smith’s process is always to throw as much of his personality onto the garments he creates. After meeting the British designer, I can safely say that Paul Smith is every bit the way you would imagine him. Inviting, lovable, humble. A creative innovator of his time and pioneering figure for British designers in the 1970s. The exhibition is open until the 22nd June 2014. Installations include: a replica of his very first Nottingham store, Paul’s studio awash with pan-tone books, toys, and an acrylic bowl of spaghetti. Admission Adult - £15, Student - £9.50 Location Design Museum, London Bridge Photography and post by Tea More fashion, posts and style inspiration: http://teancoffeelondon.tumblr.com/ Instagram: @hamzajunaid
Soho Style You may have noticed this man if you have spent enough time in Soho and surrounding areas. I didn't get this chaps name, he did however oblige in rhyming any three words of my choosing. Stylish is both a purposeful and ambiguous term to brand someone with, but I think we can agree that his colour scheme and utility belt have definitely allowed for this accolade to be awarded here. Unisex Summer Fashion Nike Air Vortex (Red) RRP £66.99 A breathable pair of iconic Nike trainers, similar to those worn by athletes of the late 80’s and 90’s. The resurgence of this style can also be seen with brands such as New Balance, which have seemingly taken the London middle-classes. It does feel as though New Balance trainers have quickly become trendy and in a short space of time, even though this brand has been around for decades. This could be due to the vast number of colours available and a common unisex style that is seen with each of their shoes. Ray-Ban Wayfarer - Tortoise Shell (RB 2140) RRP £125 Another iconic piece from the 80’s, wayfarers by Ray-Ban have been worn by the the Sex Pistols, Steve McQueen and Sir Elton John, to name a few. These comfortable and stylish glasses are timeless and will never let you down when the sun peaks out of the British rain clouds. Other recommendations for sunglasses include: Persol - famously worn by Piers Brosnan as James Bond. And, the latest frames to come on my radar by Oliver Peoples. Further Beard Spotting Following up from my post on male-mannequins in Selfridges, it seems the fully bearded man has also taken to popular advertising, pictured above by the premium cider brand Kopparberg. In pursuit of their campaign which started late last year and using the tag line "Kopparbeards", the resurgence of the beard retoric continues. Fabulous Facial Foliage - #Beards News just in, beards are fashionable! It's no myth that in the past year, beards have really presented themselves as another accessory to the male wardrobe. If you're rocking a castaway-esque bush of manliness on your face, whilst living the 9 - 5 lifestyle, then there is no doubt that you: a.) are a man b.) work in media c.) are a hipster. There isn't much more to it, beards are trendy and embraced in modern times. Not just the symbolic exhuberance of the brightly socked, funky glasses wearing, iPhone wielding, fixie bike riding, soy mocha latte drinking, bran muffin making, East-Londoners. Beards are now widely accepted and I hope they are here to stay for the long haul. As pictured above (Selfridges, London), this phenomena has now been transformed and integrated onto male mannequins. So fear not my follically-endowed gentlemen, you are now represented by luxury brands and retail stores. You can now buy numerous types of oil, clay, butter, wax, elixir to suit your beard type and desired projection. From movie stars such as George Clooney, Ben Afleck to male model Billy Huxley, the entertainment and fashion industry is acute to this masculine sentiment. But oh no, this goes much further! The beloved beard has transcended bureaucracy and red tape, worn proudly by none other than, Channel 4 news Broadcaster, Jeremy Paxman. Once just the marvel of an elite bourgeois beard-ist group, is now the fascination and envy of millions. Keep calm and Beard On. #Beards Posted by Tea More fashion, posts and style inspiration: http://teancoffeelondon.tumblr.com/ Instagram: @hamzajunaid
GET THE LOOK - RYAN REYNOLDS Hollywood’s poster boy doesn’t just get the pioneering roles in all romantic comedies but has also consistently dressed his age and envisages the modern man. GQ’s Top Ten “Well Dressed Men of the Week” see’s Ryan Reynolds as part of this collection, rocking some contemporary and trendy pieces which are perfect for New York and London climates, as we await the promiscuous arrival of the Summer. Here are some brands and designers that Tea&Coffee has selected to help obtain this city-dweller look: Navy Watson Leather Bike (Brown) - Pretty Green (£375) - Carnaby St. London Former Oasis member turned fashion designer, Liam Gallagher adapted his 90s grunge look into a modern british fashion house in late 2012. Not only is this biker jacket an incredibly light weight and versatile piece to have, but men who can pull off a good biker jacket will forever be the envy of their counterparts (and you don’t even need to own a motorbike!). Cashmere V Neck Sweater (Colour: 68 Blue) - Uniqlo (£79.90) JAKMOVE Floral Jacquard Shit (White) - Ted Baker (£90) River Island Distressed Lace Up Military Boots - Asos (£70) Very similar to the idea of a biker jacket, a dismissive symbol of anarchy and individualism when worn with confidence will again make you the envy of peers. What’s interesting about these two pieces in question, is the personality that comes through when people are wearing any form of leather. Used by characters in film and television for decades, exuding: seduction, rebellion and BAMF-i-ness (Bad Ass Mother Fucker).
Navy Silk Cyclist Tie - Paul Smith (£85) Paul Smith’s obsession with cycling is seen through this boy-ish embroidery on a silk tie. At Tea&Coffee we love it when designers push their personalities through their work 10/10. Dark Blue Stretch Chino - TopMan (£28) Crieff Cap - Barbour (£34.95) RB5121 - 2000 | Original Wayfarer - Ray-Ban (Frames: £125) Feel free to send in your suggestions for our next “Get The Look” section with the email at the top of the page!
