Disk Management is the windows built in tool for basic computer storage related tasks, but in case if there is no contiguous unallocated space then it is not possible to extend C: Drove via disk management, we need to use third party applications.
How to partition C drive and create D drive in Windows 10:
When we buy a new windows computer or laptop, the hard drive comes with a single partition C: Drive. This C: Drive is for storing all the Operating System files, installed Software and Hardware files and drivers data. It is always good to separate user data from all these important files. We can easily create partitions on hard drive to do this with the help of "Disk Management".
Disk Management is a windows system utility that allows us to perform advance storage related tasks like shrink volume, extend volume, disk partition, create a new drive etc.
Let's see how to partition C: Drive and create D: Drive in Windows 10.

1. Open Disk Management: Type "diskmgmt.msc" in Run utility’s text field and press OK.
2. Right click on the volume you want to shrink and click “Shrink Volume...”.
3. Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB and follow the steps on wizard to create unallocated space. Disk will be partitioned with the space we entered.
4. Right click on the unallocated space and click "New Simple Volume" to create a new drive.
5. Follow the steps on wizard and finish creating New Drive.
