Omegas and Alphas had been scarce on Eden.
Most of the people who were left had been Betas, but when one had come to age and had presented as an Omega, there had been a celebration.
It was the only time Father allowed frivolous usage of food and water.
The Omega would be basically worshiped for being blessed by The Tree, for having it's gift of fertility. They would sing and dance and feast and drink all through the evening.
Then, the sound of a trumpet would cut sharply through the celebration, and all would be silent and still. The residents of Eden would disperse and return to their homes, leaving the poor Omega vulnerable and defenseless.
Like prey.
And then Father would take them, disoriented and drunk, back to his home, where he would force bond them to himself.
Like a predator.
Simon hated it.
When he did pray, he prayed to whatever or whoever was listening that no more would present as an Omega.
He'd heard the cries, the screams, had seen the aftermath of the poor Omega, a shell of themself as they stood with Father's other forced Omegas.
It made the Alpha in Simon angry and sick.
But as one of Father's sons, as a Brother, he could do nothing. He wasn't allowed.
The Brotherhood consisted of all Alphas, and none of them were allowed to be alone with one of Father's Omegas.
A Brother had once been caught scenting one of the Omegas and he'd disappeared. When he returned to the dorms a few days later, they all noticed his scent was gone.
The older Brothers said he had been castrated.
He was no longer a full Alpha.
Being an Omega and Alpha on Eden had been horrible.
Hadn't been much better being an Alpha in prison.
Most of the prisoners were Alphas or Betas. The COI had enough decency and brain cells to not intermingle Alpha prisoners with Omega ones.
That was about as much praise as Simon could ever muster for the COI.
The air was heavy with Alpha pheromones, riling up Simon's own instincts to fight. He'd lost count of the amount of times he'd bitten his left hand to keep himself in check.
At least biting himself sent him to the infirmary where he got to breathe better air while the medical staff wrapped his hand, again.
None of them ever scolded him for biting himself.
They knew why and continued to stay quite for the many years Simon had been locked up.
When Simon had woken up on the Hail Mary, the first thing to hit him was the scent of an Alpha.
And then the pain from losing his left arm came quickly after.
