“God - this is just fucking perfect. Walked a half hour to the station just to find my train is fucked and my phone died trying to call someone to come get me; I guess today just ain’t gonna be my fucking day. Can you point me toward a fucking bus stop or something? I got somewhere to be.”

“ yikes, ” the brunette murmured, looking around for a second before back at the other woman, “ the bus stop’s around the corner, but if you needed to use my phone to get an uber instead, that might be faster if you’re in a hurry. ”

“you know, i’ve been called worse. paint girl wouldn’t offend me. like last night this guy called me a slut for sleeping with his ex-girlfriend, whatever,” jessalyn rolls her eyes. she has no time for whiny men, it’s the least of her worries. the blonde cast a gaze over her client with a grin, “alright, so first agenda today–” she was cut off by the sigh of the croissants. jessalyn jumped at the pastries, plucking one from the container and plopping it into her mouth, a moan leaving her lips, “i’m like one-hundo percent sure these are better than sex.” she glances at teddy, “how did you know these are my literal fave? ugh, just open the bakery in my apartment, thanks.” the idea of endless pastries and sweet treats is alluring but jessalyn is too weak, “on second thought, my ass is already fat enough, i take that back,” she chuckles with a little snicker. “thanks though, you didn’t have to bake me anything. but i will accept food as a form of payment,” she begins to recall those times that she had indeed accepted food as payment for some projects.

“ oh, wow, ” the brunette folded her arms on the counter and leaned forward to give jess a questioning look but didn’t press further. she was excited at the sight of someone excited to eat her food - even though she’d been doing her own baking for what felt like so long, it still never failed to make her giddy. “ you like? ” she asked with a chuckle, picking one up herself to take a bite of. “ i know i didn’t have to, but i wanted to. you’ve been a huge help so far with all of this, but don’t worry, you’ll get other pay, too. ” finishing up her croissant, she pulled out her own notebook and the pen from the spiraling. “ anyway, sorry to interrupt the first order of business with these clearly-winning croissants. what should we start with today? ”

“you can’t wear that to your meeting, jessalyn…” shireen, her mother, says over facetime as jessalyn is waltzing down the street in high top sneakers, loose overalls, and hair that she hadn’t touched since two days ago probably. “course’ i can mom, it’s the artist look, alright?” jessalyn assures the older stark. “you look homeless and that’s offensive to homeless people, honey,” shireen comments. jessalyn scoffs, “that’s an offensive statement allover, mom. alright, i’m at the cupcake girl’s place gotta split, catch ya on the flip side,” her thumb is hovering over the ‘end call’ button when she hears her mother quickly add in another word, “jess please don’t call her ‘cupcake—” click. jessalyn enters the empty lot, soon-to-be bakery, “hey cupcake girl! what’s good?”

once the door opened, the brunette’s eyes snapped up to a familiar figure - and an even more familiar nickname. “ one of these days, i’m gonna start calling you paint girl, see how you like it, ” teddy’s tone was betrayed by her expression, clearly happy to see the artist. even the disheveled look in front of her didn’t phase her, she herself coming to this meeting in an old sweatshirt, ripped jeans, and ankle boots - she’d tried to be professional but it was also getting cold, whatever. “ like i promised, i brought you these, ” the older girl opened one of the tupperwares and nudged the box of strawberry-filled croissants towards the approaching blonde, “ just tried this new glaze recipe last night, try it out. ”

‘ mental checklist: meet with a few interviewees, check, work on at least one new recipe today, check ’, the brunette was trying to juggle carrying her notebook in the same arm as the hand that was holding two towering boxes of tupperware - all the while going through her agenda for the day. all that was left was meeting with jessalyn. the two had met by chance, but once the brunette had seen the other woman’s work, being blown away would be an understatement. it was a miracle that somebody so talented offered to work with her on her new bakery, it was encouraging, to say the least - but even after getting to know the painter, teddy was confident that she’d made a friend in the process. once she’d gotten to the leased out space, she left the front door unlocked as she set out the tupperwares on the front counter, wating for the blonde to arrive.

“so i just sold this painting right and two days later the woman calls me and asks me to hang it up for her. bear in mind, i’m not one of these DIY guys and my services don’t come with a fuckin’ ‘i’ll paint this for you AND stick it to a wall of your choice in your over priced apartment’ tagline. but whatever, she was elderly and i thought i could use the karma tokens. i turned up there this morning and this woman is as naked as the day she flew out of her mothers uterus and the picture is already hanging up on the fuckin’ wall. what did she call me over for? well i think you can pretty much figure that one out yourself.”

teddy usually had difficulty planning nights out, but after moving to new york, she always seemed to be a witness to stuff like this. there was a fair share of it back home in boston, but the frequency of her being present seemed to have escalated since she’d come here. “ that guy was a jerk, ” she muttered to the other woman once he’d stalked off, shaking her head a bit, “ you alright? ”

✧ ━ she HATED bakery, honestly. kenna would have walked OUT those fronts door if she knew that she could support herself with the meager eleven dollars a hour. a sigh of FRUSTRATION came from the raven haired woman as she threw off her apron and slipped out of the back door of the kitchen. “i’d go fuckin’ insane if i didn’t get a break,” she murmured to herself, as she walked hurriedly down the street and began to search her pockets for her cigarettes. kenna was unaware of the fact that flour was S M E A R E D all over her nose and checks as she aimlessly wandered. lighting her smoke, she exhaled and found herself feeling grateful for the nicotine rush she was granted. “lookin’ at SOMETHING?” she said, looking at the other whose eyes she found glued to herself.

teddy was grateful she could take some time out of the busy days she’d been having lately - when it wasn’t perfecting recipes, it was rushing around to make sure that her store-in-progress would be open by the beginning of the year. she’d stopped at her favorite cafe around the corner from her contractor’s office as she noticed someone storm out of the bakery next door, not being able to stifle a small laugh at the girl’s flour dilemma. “ sorry, i don’t mean to gawk, ” she brought her coffee away from her lips, bringing a hand up to point at her own face, “ i think you just caught a little too much of the mixing bowl back in there, happens to the best of us. ”

“It’s really not as bad as it looks.” Sulli began, her legs dangling off a wooden table as she held a table napkin to her jeans, which had a brand new rip to them. “I can just cut a hole into my other knee and it’s practically like a brand new pair of jeans.” She shrugged, hoping not to worry the other about the crimson that began to peak through the white material of the napkin. “I’m trying to learn how to ride my new motorcycle and it’s a bit like riding a bicycle, you know?
