Chloe nodded, though it was clear from her smirk it wal all a game to her. She knew she was pretty, but it was in a bare-faced, unkempt sort of way. She wasn’t one for following fashion trends, and rarely bothered with makeup or fixing her hair. She was simply Chloe, in all her snarky, unbothered glory. “Conversation, spending time with each other thats what your buddies are for.” Uninvited thoughts of her last relationship swam before her. She had been devastated when he had passed away but the more time went by, the more she realised that truly, she had not really liked him as a person. She had felt more herself since he had gone than she ever had with him. “Not until I find a sugar daddy,” she teased. “I guess you could always sell the story. Get rich of off him or something.” She would have been lying if she said she hadn’t wanted to sleep with Teddy before. He was good looking, and had been kinder to her than most people in her life had been. “If we are being honest, I think I would either way.” The confession surprised even Chloe. “Girls aren’t good people, you know? If you met someone else, it would probably be a bit more complicated if we just wanted to hang out like this. I guess I’d miss ya.” 

“So you don’t like to be friends with your romantic prospects? Interesting. I think I’d just get really bored. If I’m with someone, they at least have to pretend to enjoy listening to me spout off about random music shit. You don’t get that same sympathy or engagement from a one night stand.” Teddy snorted, brows raised as he thought about Chloe potentially hitting up a sugar daddy. “If you’re gonna do that, try and go for the super lonely ones who just want someone to watch movies with, not some old dudes who are into foot stuff. The later might make for a funny story, but I’m not sure it’s worth it.” Teddy tilted his head in curiosity, a bit surprised by her response. He’d never thought Chloe would be the type to give him the time of day, let alone feel anything if he were to date another girl. “No? What did girls ever do to you, huh?” he teased, the smile sticking on his face. “Well don’t worry your pretty little head,” he nudged her lightly with his elbow. “I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. You’re stuck with me for the foreseeable future.”

“Au contraire. Looks are everything. Lots of people have great personalities. Being easy on the eye is a true talent in life.” It wasn’t that she was totally shallow. She was just at a point in her life when sex was all that was necessary. She wasn’t ready for anything more. “Kissing Mick Jagger looks like it would feel pretty similar to kissing a walnut. I guess your type is ugly,” she snickered. “I’m listening to you talk, aren’t I? Granted, I didn’t pay for it, but still. You have some interesting things to say sometimes.” Compliments had never been her strong suit, and this was about as close as it got for her. “Not everyone is crazy like me,” she pointed out. She knew she was a piece of work - and she didn’t care. “Well, that depends.” She said. She crossed her legs over one another, rested an elbow on her thigh and cupped her chin in her hand. “Have we had sex or not in this hypothetical? Cause that makes all the difference.” 

“You think?” he asked, clearly amused by her opinion. He wondered if her statement would’ve stayed the same if she had any idea how he felt about her. “Would I like to fuck a model? Sure, who wouldn’t? But I’m more about...I don’t know, someone I feel like I’d enjoy spending time with, I guess. Have an actual conversation with, not someone I’d just ogle the whole time.” He shrugged, still not totally sure himself what his type was. “And you’d know what kissing a walnut feels like? But hey, walnut or not, if the opportunity presented itself, I wouldn’t say no. It’s more for the chance at an epic story than actually wanting to kiss him.” He placed a hand over his heart as if her words touched him deeply. “Wow, Chloe, you say the sweetest things. Fuck. Got me feeling the feels,” he replied with a grin. He pursed his lips, curious about what the answer would be for either hypothetical choice. “Hmm, can I say both? I’m intrigued. I want to see both sides. Enlighten me.”

“Uh huh,” Chloe said, lifting a hand to tap against her lips as she thought. “I mean, I sort of get it? Explains how you can look past her big square man-head, at least.” Her words were blunt, but careless. In true Chloe form, she hadn’t truly thought about them before saying them. “Unfortunately for you, I cannot think of a single person who could be described a force. I guess you’re shit out of luck.” Her mouth pricked up into a smile, and she shook her head. “Nah, it was cute. As long as you keep that shit free and don’t make me sign up for your Patreon or whatever, you have a regular user.” Chloe didn’t do feelings. Not anymore. What she did do, however, was possessive. Even if she didn’t want a guy, she always hated it when they moved on from her. “I’m the jealous type,” she said, with a wry smile. “If you think you can put up with batshit crazy, then it’s game on.” 

“Whoa,” he replied, although there was a mix of laughter in his words that showed he wasn’t truly offended. “Looks aren’t everything. Are they important? Sure, but sometimes it’s the little things that matter more. Hell, if I was drunk enough and Mick Jagger wanted to make out, I’d say yes. That dude is a fucking genius.” Teddy smirked, shaking his head. “If someone actually paid to hear me talk, I’d personally message them and ask if they’ve just gotten out of an institution. Nobody, and I mean nobody in their right mind would or should pay to listen to me talk about random shit.” Teddy raised an eyebrow. “Everyone’s crazy in their own way. It’s just how you show it.” He wasn’t sure what spurred him to say what he did next. Maybe it was the smile she gave him, or something in the air. He wasn’t quite sure himself. “Can you see yourself being jealous of someone else...you know, if they were with me?”

Teddy wasn’t Josie, but spending time with him was far easier in a way. Even when he was teasing her, she didn’t find herself minding, didn’t find herself quite as prone to putting up a fight. Perhaps it was the fact he was her only friend at the moment, but she was perfectly content with him, even if all they did was speak about whatever ridiculousness came to her head. “Hey, if it’s gingers that get you going, we can definitely hook you up. I don’t personally know any gingers who aren’t in high school, so you may have to drop the idea of knowing them first.” She looked at him for a moment, tilting her head and looking at his expression. She wouldn’t say no, though something told her it wouldn’t be the best idea. “Nah, I don’t want to go all clingy on you. We’re good, Owens.” 

“It’s not even a hair color thing, although I do like a good red head. It’s just...personality. I know I sound like I’m full of shit, believe me. It’s just her music and who she is as a person. I think that’s what it is for me, you know? Like, yeah, looks are important and shit, but she’s just this force. I’d just be lucky to be in her presence. Like, fuck, I can’t even explain it.” He took in a breath, looking towards Chloe a bit sheepishly when he realized he’d gone on a weird tangent. “Hope you enjoyed that preview of my podcast. A Dork with Feelings, catch me spilling my guts like a loser every week on Spotify or Apple Podcasts if the music thing doesn’t work out.” He raised a brow, suddenly wondering what exactly she meant. “No? You think you might catch feelings if we sleep together?”

“I’m a sweetheart,” Chloe said with a sly grin. Anybody who knew her even a little knew she was anything but. “Oh, so you’re picky,” she teased him. She was hardly qualified to give advice here. The one relationship she had in her life had ended so horribly, so tragically, that she never wanted to be in that position again. She was more content to keep things casual. Sex was easy, it was something she knew well, something that didn’t have to mean anything. Teddy’s views clearly differed, and not for the first time, she missed Josie. She would understand. “Maybe we should just do it. You know me, right?” 

“That’s one word some may use to describe you,” Teddy teased. He knew Chloe enough to know that sweetheart wasn’t the first thing that came to mind when describing her, but he liked that. There were enough Mary Sue’s in the world that it was the Chloe’s who made it more interesting. “I know, right? I haven’t really sat down and thought about who I want, in all honesty.”  Besides you. “Maybe some like...I don’t know, Florence Welsh? She’s way out of my league, but that type.”  If he had a drink in hand, he would’ve choked on it in reaction to the next words out of her mouth. “Very funny,” he said, shaking his head before raising an eyebrow. “You are joking, right?”

“I’m trying to encourage you to get laid, like any good friend would.” Chloe said, placing a hand on her heart in a mockery of sincerity. “Get your mind out of the gutter, Owens.” She couldn’t help but smirk, shaking her head in response. “The whole point of condoms is to nix the possibility of getting an STD. You’ll be fine. But I can definitely help find you some girls, or guys, whatever you’re into. What’s your type?” 

“Ah, how sweet of you. I appreciate it, really,” he smirked. He raised a brow once she asked what his type was. “You know...someone with a face...and hair. That’s a start,” he nodded. He wasn’t about to come right out and say I don’t know, Chloe, probably someone like you. He was a drop out, but he wasn’t an imbecile. “I think I’d have to know the person first. I can’t really bed hop with someone I just met, you know? I mean, I could, but it’d just feel wrong. I don’t want to start bathing in hand sanitizer. Know anybody that isn’t a complete stranger?”

“Possibly,” Chloe responded, a smirk growing on her face. “There’s a lot of potential messages there, though. He could have been trying to tell you to have more sex, or maybe he thought you look like you have a lot of sex to begin with. Or maybe he was telling you not to reproduce. If it were me, I’d take it as he thought I needed a good fuck and start getting busy. You’re wasting valuable time, here.” 

“If it were you?” Teddy responded, smirking back in Chloe’s direction. “What are you trying to say, Chlo?” After a beat, he shook his head. “You both may be right. Just another thing to disappoint my parents with, right? Not only would I be a Julliard drop out, but a walking STD on top of that. I better get started. Know anybody that needs to get some?”
