Charlotte and Jane - sapphic version of Charles Chambers and John Fogg from New Year’s Day podcast (as requested by @lesbianwildflower), inspired by this photo of Joan Blondell and Geraldine Fitzgerald.

Character design tests

When designing them I thought to give Charlotte a slightly more conservative style not necessarily because she believes in those values but because she’s afraid of visibly stepping outside the norm. I think an important part of Charles’s character is that he’s scared of being seen as “other” and I wanted to highlight that in his female version.

I made Jane a bit more modern for contrast and because John is obviously not as bothered by societal expectations as Charles is. He is a lot bolder than Charles and follows new trends more.

Making them women born in the 19th century would make their lives a lot harder than in the original, and I think @emilyclowder had a great take on it. Because if we want the story to work the same they still have to get very successful careers and that would be a lot more difficult than in the original, considering the era.
