Obviously, really good film schools are super expensive, especially when you're out of state. Would going to a school instate or moving out to California be better? I have a few areas I'm interested in and because of my towns relatively small size, I don't have a clue where to start my education.
Hm, this is tough. Well, depending on your circumstances, I'd say if you can, go to college in-state. Especially if you're about to graduate high school. College is a great buffer between high school and the real world. Maybe there's a college in your state that has a film program of some sort? Even if it's not available for you to major in, there are some great film programs out there. I'd do some research and see what you can find. Moving straight to LA is definitely an option, but there are some invaluable experiences to be had in college. Education, yes, but also lots of life lessons, (at least for me personally). Jobs aren't the easiest to find sometimes so it would be a bit more complicated than perhaps I've made it seem in the past. Moving out here not knowing anyone and straight out of the nest is a bold choice, but not necessarily a bad one. It may be time to weigh your pros and cons. If you can't afford college and are ready to start living and working on your own, then yes, you can do it by moving straight out here and starting to look for work. It may be a challenging path but I know people who have done it. If you can afford to go to college though, I would definitely recommend it. Everyone is different so it's hard for me to give a particular person advice without knowing all the details of their circumstances. Whatever you decide, good luck!
