Tekko 2018 - Who Else I Saw
One of my favorite things about con-going is the chance to see all the other magnificent cosplays people put together. I didn’t get as many pics taken this year as I have other years, but I did see some outfits that were truly amazing.
Kevin’s Newt Scamander outfit got him in a few group shots with fellow Harry Potter cosplays. In the Dealer’s room, he actually came across a group of folks cosplaying as the leads of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. XD The pictures just snapped themselves at that point.
I saw a few really good Marvel superhero cosplayers this year, and these three were really nice about posing for pics! Yes, I know Finn technically isn’t a superhero. I still love the guy to death and they’re all owned by Disney anyway. :P
There were several people who had remote-controlled BB-8s, which pleased me very much. I love that adorable little robot! None of the cosplayers were going as Poe, though. Aw. Maybe next year. *pouts*
Speaking of Star Wars, there were a ton of Rey and Kylo Ren cosplayers I regrettably missed the chance to snap pics of. I did take the opportunity to get a few pictures of these two, though. Unfortunately my knowledge of Star Wars EU/Legends lore is not as good as it probably should be, so I don’t know who these two are, exactly. Does it matter, though? When you see two cosplayers with costumes as good as this holding a mock-battle with glowing lightsabers in the con hall, how can anyone NOT stop to take pictures?
When Ashley and I were looking for my Slit-Mouth Woman make-up, we ended up in the costume shop down in the Strip District. There, we learned that the lady behind the counter was not only planning on going to Tekko herself, but that she and her friend had an Edward Elric - Alphonse Elric cosplay planned out. When I saw the two in this picture... I realized it was an entirely different Edward - Alphonse pair and felt kind of silly. ^^; Still, I asked for a pic and they were kind enough to oblige! After all, pulling off that pair so well isn’t easy.
Hilariously, I actually DID find the shop woman a second later, as she and her friend were standing a few feet behind the first Edward and Alphonse cosplayers. They both really outdid themselves, I must say! That has to be the best cosplay of the Elric brothers I’ve seen yet.
I mentioned before how this was a great year for running into old friends. This year, I was fortunate enough to run into a former co-worker of mine! :D She put together a lovely Vanellope Von Schweetz cospay. Besides stalking/attending the panels and getting the autograph of Vic Mignogna (who is totally her voice actor husband), she joined me and Kevin at the Anime Trivia panel (which we lost at, but oh well 8D)
Former Co-worker-san unfortunately had to leave shortly after the trivia panel. Before leaving though, she really, really wanted to track down and get a pic of a group of Black Butler cosplayers, which included femme!Ciel. Fortunately she did manage to find them before she left.
I saw a number of really good Legend of Zelda cosplayers this year, and unfortunately I wasn’t able to snap as many pictures of them as I would have liked. Still, I made sure to get a pic here! This Princess Zelda cosplay put together an absolutely gorgeous costume. It reminds me of my own less-successful attempt at cosplaying the character. Respect!
I also found someone cosplaying as Breath of the Wild!Zelda, and I can’t begin to tell you how much that made me squee! Breath of the Wild is currently my favorite Zelda game and a person can get old listening to me talk about all the things I love about it. The characterization of its versions of Zelda and Link were one of the things I adored, and I’m glad to see I’m not the only one with a fondness for them.
This Breath of the Wild character I remember less fondly, but it’s just as impressive a cosplay. Anyone who has come across a Guardian in that game probably broke out in a cold sweat and ducked behind something the instant they saw this thing. Considering how complicated a cosplay this must have been, I really have to respect the person who put it together. I don’t know if it was designed to move or not (it was just sitting there as I walked by), but even sitting still, it was impressive!
There was also a cut-out of the giant Korok that Link does the Korok Seed side quest for. I thought the character was adorable, but seeing him next to a Guardian reminded me of the not-so-happy memories of trying to dodge/kill the Guardians of Hyrule Field whilst attempting to collect all of Central Hyrule’s seeds. Thanks for that, Nintendo. -_-
This was one of the more imaginative and entertaining cosplays I saw. XD Considering how Navi (the fairy from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time) didn’t have a canon human form, she did a really good job showing who she was.
It wasn’t until I found a Kiki cosplaying hanging out with a Lilo cosplaying in the Dealer’s Room that I realized this was the crossover I’ve always needed.
There actually were quite a few good cosplays of Studio Ghibli characters, starting with this Sheeta cosplayer! She and her entire group went with that as a theme.
And then I found them! :D
Incidentally, this convention was the first time I got a chance to see Mary and the Witch’s Flower, which was NOT made by Studio Ghibli, but was more or less a spiritual successor to those films. I do hope to see a lot of Mary cosplayers next year. ^^
I’ll fully admit that I don’t recognize anyone those two groups are cosplaying as. All I know is that if I see people posing for a pic at a con, I feel the uncontrollable need to take a picture of them myself. I should probably do something about that. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures!
At this point, Con!Jesus seems to be a staple of Tekko. Every year I always need to take a pic, and every year he very kindly poses so that I can. What a great guy!
I’m not sure what had me more confuzzled, the question of how such a large Jiggleypuff costume was acquired or what a person’s face would look like after that thing finished drawing on them with a sharpie.
There were a few Over the Garden Wall cosplayers around the con. This lady was standing behind me in the line to get on an elevator back to the Weston and was kind enough to let me take a picture of her, while we were waiting.
Finally, while leaving the Gaming Room, I managed to locate Waldo. That sure was a load off of my mind! I was looking for that guy EVERYWHERE!
