Retired My momo recolors use the old 90 Palette. I have no plans to switch to the 178 version.

Retired

It was fun, but I feel like I have been replaced officially. I don’t mean that in a bad way. I started creating because I saw a gap and I wanted to fill it. I shared my methods because I don’t believe in gatekeeping and I hoped that it would be enough to push someone in the right direction.  Were they the best? Absolutely not, but I got results. Those results look old and outdated now, but I did take a small bit of pride in being an early MM creator. If nothing else maybe I inspired someone out of utter disgust. :)

I can recognize that my content doesn’t hold up nowadays and since it’s been over 4 years since I last opened Blender I doubt I could come back and create tings to the new standard. Even if I could, I no longer have the desire or motivation. I barely get through recoloring each update for my and my sister’s games and that’s mostly automated with photoshop and macros.

When this blog was active it was operated by me and my at the time boyfriend*, but I’m (Te) writing this because he mostly just humored me and this was my pet project more than his.  * He’s since been upgraded to husband

Thanks for the memories. I log in occasionally to ensure the blog doesn’t deactivate or get taken over by bots or whatever else could happen. I do check the inbox briefly, but it’s so full... 

To anyone who messaged with a request, I’m sorry we didn’t get to it. I am surprised to still be getting them when there are far better MM creators out there now, so thank you.

Another Peggy hair! Thank you guys for voting :)  It’s a little different from the original, but I had to adjust to MM style. The original was very very wispy and that’s hard to emulate in clay. Hopefully this is close enough!

Recolor Resource

I know Simomo has a newer bigger palette, but I’m far too lazy for 178 colors. All credit for this palette goes to Simomo.

With that out of the way

I made some gradient maps for the original 90! Please do feel free to play around with these and change the colors or even make new ones. They’re a lot easier to customize and use than multi-step actions so don’t be afraid to mess around.

How-to under the cut if you need. Very beginner friendly & applies to gradients in general.

You’ll need s4studio and photoshop. I use cs6.  I primarily use these for hair type items, but they can be used over anything. I’m working my way through the clothes atm actually.  I always use the #15 hair swatch. If that is not available (kids) I have included a gradient map you can run over Dirty Blonde #13 to get #15. It’s not perfect, but it’s close enough for a base. 

You can do this over a .dds, .png. jpeg w/e you prefer. I use .pngs.

Load up your file of choice and add an adjustment layer -> gradient map   

You should see a menu like this somewhere in your photshop. 

which will drop down in to this :

If you do not see the momo colors click the wheel up by Momo 83 in my picture and hit load (you can use replace to get a clean only momo menu like my pic) and select the Momo 90.grd file you hopefully downloaded.  You can also double click the .grd wherever you saved it.

Simply pick one and voila. Your texture is recolored. 

Something I had trouble with with actions was them not respecting selections and recoloring everything, the map will respect your selection though so you can leave out streaks or hair accessories easily. I selected a small portion to demonstrate :D  

I have not included an action because you don’t need one! However, I did make one for myself that loads the colors and saves out as 1.png - 90.png, but it won’t work on other’s pcs because the paths would be different. You definitely can and should do this yourself to save time.

make the layer once, change the color & save. then just change & save until done!

Pro-tip: Save your recolors as .png and name them 1,2,3,4,5 so on. Once you’re done use bulk rename utility and add “Swatch_” as the prefix and “_Diffuse_1″ as the suffix. (in my experience so far “_diffuse_1″ will not need to change, but swatch does so that’s why we don’t add a number to it and instead name the .png as the number.)

 If you do this you can bulk import in to s4studio to save you some clicking. :) shift+control+c in s4studio and type “studio.importall” Studio will make a folder where your package is called “yourpackage resources” and you just drop your .pngs in there then type studio.importall again to actually import this time. Yay no more carpal tunnel clicking import 90 times!

You do need to apply the color palette to the package first but s4studio has that palette tool now so no tips/tricks needed.   Hope this helps!

also for shits n giggles I put one of the blues over a random skyrim screenshot and set the layer to soft light for a knockoff reshade effect. Experiment!

I just think she’s neat 👉🏻👈🏻 I went back and played around with the hairline until I got something decent so I could take off the bangs. The Main image is showing version 2a. Versions A have bangs, Bs do not.

TL;DR : Top one’s “done”, bottom one needs some work. 12k/13k poly respectively. No bangless version.

So they ended up at 12k poly for the top and 13k poly for the bottom. 

The top one is done I think? I need to adjust hat chops, morphs and the 90 palette, but those are secondary.

The bottom one looks weirdly ugly in game though so I may need to go back a few steps and redo it. Lighter colors really show it off :((

but you guys I added a hairline, waow. It only took me a year. The previous shots in blender were around 100k poly, so keep that in mind if you’re comparing them 👀 It also had Ambient occlusion enabled and better lighting, you know the drill. I kinda feel bad for posting them now, but.. I was excited :( 💔  I did not like how it looks without bangs so I didn’t make it to work without it. I actually did try, but the hairline got the best of me. The over the shoulder version is an apology for that ♥

I need to sew up some masks for back to school so I need to put this aside for a day or two, but I’ll get it out as soon as I can. Gotta make em for 6 people and I’m rather slow even with my machine. Thank you in advance for your patience.

It’s coming along. I’ve already learned something new which is helping a lot. Bezier curves have some quirks to em and I’ve just been making it work instead of making them work for me, but no more!  I found out how to rotate the damn things instead of having them twist.  https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/35771/why-does-a-bezier-curve-twist-when-rotated/43449#43449 Game changer! I’ll be squishing the rolls in and making them look more like kitty cat ears after I finish laying out all the pieces. It’s easier to do fine tuning towards the end. :) I am keeping the bangs how they are. I really like how the reference art has them more in the center instead of a full fringe even if that’s what Evelynn actually has. No bangs & Full fringe versions may happen. Depends on how this goes, but I’ll try :D

Long time no see! Dipping a toe back in to the blender water with a pretty basic long wavy hair. I see this style a lot with the Alpha hairs but wanted one in a more MM style. It probably falls in the Maxis Mix category, but I did truly try to make it MM.

UPDATED! 7/30/2021 Now Includes everything up to / and Cottage Living.

No extra overlays for ombres/streaks this time, sorry I don’t use those.

These are not color slider compatible. I only did this to get my own game caught up and I don’t use that. If you want to make them compatible then feel free.

Only available on mediafire due to size issues. I don’t want to upload 6 parts because sfs has a less than 300mb limit on uploads. Basegame files are separated by age (and sex for adults) because s4studio only merges up to 2gb and it made the most sense. Uh.. there’s also some cc recolors if anyone other than me even uses this palette.  Stay safe! ♥

Anyway this comes in 3 versions and has two overlays available for a dip dye look or  half-n-half.
