you may see a video of Guillermo Del Toro saying that he tried to do something like a telenovela for Frankenstein and you may not be very into Mexican telenovelas, so here are a few hints.
1. Love at first sight. In telenovelas love happens at first sight, Elizabeth falls in love with the creature in what it seems two singles interactions.
2. Love triangles or more. Classic love triangles are always consistent in the heroine, the hero and villain (Victor is the villain here). We have a four angle with William, but he has a minor role. In telenovelas there are side characters that have love interests in the main characters but don't really do the love triangle.
3. Someone falls from the stairs and loses his memory and becomes blind (they can also be hit by a car). Here is Elizabeth’s uncle that falls by the hole and dies, because Del Toro is more gore than a regular telenovela.
4. The story moves forward because someone is spaying or finding important letters/documents that are always in the right place to be found by accident. Here Victor is spying on Elizabeth and finds out about her love for the monster and then the monster finds the letter that happens to be intact from a massive fire.
Add if you found more trope. .
[dramatic music with an explosion at the end]
5. dramatically fiery explosions and somebody getting disabled and/or disfigured because of said explosion. Victor loses his leg while his creature gets splashed with battery acid on the way out
6. parents dying of heart attacks but for Victor's case it was a long time coming and very much a knife to the lung. adios you little shit
7. uncivilized-looking main character going on a sort of rags to riches journey to become a hot menace midway through. the creature is Marimar
8. screaming
9. disabled seniors being better (adoptive) parents because the younger more able real parents die too soon, leave, or are pricks
10. bitch slap
11. bedrooms getting trashed
