“There usually is, Professor,” Ororo said, by way of greeting, her features relaxed into a smile. It was a comforting sight, Charles Xavier engrossed in an article. that slightly faraway look in his eye indicating to those familiar with him that half his attention was being given to the cerebral plane of existence. “I can’t tell you how many times, these past years, that I’ve wanted to turn to you and ask how you did it all.” It had been difficult, very difficult, to be the X-Men without Xavier and Ororo had constantly felt she was falling short. It was strange now that he was back, both an unending relief and something that required adjustment, Ororo once more feeling she had to defer to his decisions.
“I wanted to run the class schedules by you,” she began, taking the seat next to him. “I think we’re all in agreement that it’s best if Kitty teaches Ethics again? It isn’t at all that I doubt Emma, but, well… ” Ororo trailed off. “And of course Erik has been wonderful lately, but I’m not certain he’s the right … fit. I did, briefly, consider Logan, but he tends to go … off the cuff in terms of lesson planning and I’m worried he might use some real life examples that could be … traumatising for the children. Naturally, Jean would be very suitable but there is that time she … well, you remember, all the Phoenix business.” Ororo pressed a hand to her forehead, headache growing. “When considering all possible qualifications, I really feel it has to be Kitty.”
Charles felt an all too familiar pang of guilt as he looked at Ororo with a sad smile as he thought of the pain and chaos he caused when he blipped.
“Of course my dear, I am always here for you, whatever you need.”
He listened as she ran through her reasonings for Kitty being the ethics teacher. He was so proud of the way she handled this situation, and all of the countless others she had to handle for years now.
“Ororo, that sounds perfect dear, you are correct, she is the best of the options, and I believe that she will be a fine ethics teacher. Trust your gut feeling on this one, it won’t steer you wrong.”
