WHAT WAS DONNA DOING WHEN SHE PASSED THROUGH THE PORTAL?
chasing down aspiring art thieves at the cityâs museum of contemporary arts, working independently from the titans, who had currently parted ways. the glow of the mysterious portal shone brighter than her lasso, drawing her in⊠and in the blink of an eye, she found herself in the same city, yet everything had changed. ( for further details and donnaâs origins, kindly have a look here. )
WHERE IS SHE LIVING? IS SHE LIVING WITH ANYONE?
donna resides at swordâs offered accomodations. what she knew of her apartment no longer belongs to her - she chose to live in what the organization offered, till she could figure everything out again.
WHY IS SHE AFFILIATED WITH WHO SHEâS AFFILIATED WITH?
it wasnât her choice. a costumed woman like her drew attention. she was approached by sword and after a couple of attempts from their part, she eventually tagged along. the organizationâs foreign to her, along with their aim⊠but thatâs not her current worry. she needs to seek of familiarity, find the people she once knew of - if possible. the rest, sheâll figure it out eventually.
WHO ARE HER MAJOR FRIENDS, ALLIES AND FOES?
major friends & family would be the titans (dick grayson, roy harper, garth, wally west, koriandâr, raven & beast boy) and the amazons (especially diana, her mentor and cassie). allies include those associated with the justice league and friends of the titans (kyle rayner, an example). foes, anyone who tries to harm her sisters or her friends.
WHOSE HANDS DOES DONNA BELIEVE THE COUNTRY SHOULD BE IN?
nobodyâs but the people. despite their powers, donna believes no one has the right to impose themselves on others. they were granted those powers not to rule, but to aid.
WHATâS DONNAâS CURRENT MENTAL STATE? HER PHYSICAL STATE?
physically, donna is at top condition. it takes a lot to hurt an amazon. mentally, sheâs perplexed. it feels like sheâs relieving yet another one existential crisis, where sheâs doubting her surroundings and their realness. she needs to find familiar faces, linked to her past or new ones that can help her untangle the mess that portal brought into her life. she feels as if she has to start over yet again.
âLook o-â But before Karolina can get the words out, the guys are down and Karolina floats about the action, mesmerized. Well, thereâs the effortless action and then the fact the woman is saying sheâs cool - very cool. Karolina canât exactly blush when sheâs glowing, but her face heats up all the same. âThanks!â She floats down to ground-level. âAnd youâve got really coolâŠ.armsâŠâ Karolina glances at them, snapping her attention back up as the woman continues.Â
âUm, Iâm, uhâŠ.â Karolina babbles for a moment, trying to think - she doesnât really have a superhero name (Lucy in the Sky feels wrong to use, if it ever really felt right), and sheâs not sure if she should be protecting her identity or anything. But sheâs already glowing, so what does it matter? âKarolina! Itâs nice to meet you, Donna.â She smiled brightly. âYou were, like, really good at punching those guys. Do youâŠdo the whole vigilante thing too?â Slowly, she snaps back on her bracelet and her light-show fades away to reveal her human appearance. âOh, donât worry, this happens to me, like, strangely often. Men can be creeps, I guess. Thanks for being so cool about all of my glowing.â
This was probably the first time since her arrival in this city that Donna was wholeheartedly laughing. Cool arms ; sheâs heard a lot in her time, but that was new. âThanks. I do know how to throw my punches.â
âKarolina.â She repeated the name, nodding - a warm smile matching hers. âGood to meet you, too.â Eyes gleamed with amusement, or was it the womanâs glow illuminating her gaze? Donnaâs smile definitely gave away she was enjoying this encounter. âVigilante thing?â She tilted her head, a hum slipping past her lips. âI guess you could say that. Iâve got a few friends that have abilities... out of this world.â Too early to mention she was an Amazon herself. Took her long enough to get used to manâs world and now back to the beginning she was! Or at least, it felt like it.
âOf course. Believe it or not, that was the closest to home Iâve seen lately. But is it alright to use your powers just like that, in the middle of the streets?â Brows momentarily furrowed, mostly in concern. Sneaking a look around, Donna could positively tell theyâd have to move soon. Creeps or not, the men better not get a second beating for the day.
âNow, where were you off to? Need some company on your way there?â
·.·â    sheâs still in shock  ; but she knows she shouldnât be, everyone and their mother  (  literally ) has seemingly appeared to the point cassie had even begun to question  if home existed anymore. or was this world now meant to be thereâs as well. wasnât that what happened to powergirl? superboy prime? Â
â ye- yeah !!  i'd love nothing more to,  â   she responded, falling into line with donnaâs lead. the two wonder girls ( well, current & former ) fighting back to back â it was literally cassandraâs dream. every time she had the opportunity to, it could turn around any mood â even if sheâd just been the attempted victim of a mugging not two seconds ago.  the sole of her boot landed squarely in the third attackers chest, catapulting him into the fourth. with relative ease for mid combat, cassie glanced over to her role model,
â how long have you been in new york?  well, ah â this new york ? âÂ
teaming up under these circumstances wasnât exactly how donna had envisioned a reunion with the wonder girl (the title rightfully belonged to cassie now). but sheâd take it. a compromise now and then, that she could do.
no cosmic forces for them to deal with, no need for their lassos to come out. a little dissapointing, really â but she wasnât so sure how this city would react to two powerful weapons like theirs showcased out in the open. the thugs were quick to be dealt with, cassandraâs remarkable skills aiding her in knocking these men down. donna took care of the last one, the mugger dropping onto the ground with a loud grunt.
âitâs so good to see you.â donna pulled the blonde into a warm embrace, finally getting the chance to properly greet her. ânot how i had imagined our next get together, but itâll do.â a low laugh accompanied her words, coloured with a hint of uneasiness, mostly because of the situation they were in.
ânot too long. and honestly? i donât think iâve ever been that confused in my life.â the amazon responded to the question, taking a step back to look at her. âwant to get some coffee and... catch up?â whatever there was to catch up with, that was.
a gentle squeeze on cassieâs shoulder served as encouragement, a cue for her to follow donna. away from the thugs thatâd eventually recover.
it didnât take much to set venom off, someone could look at them wrong way and eddie would be sprung into something that he didnât want. eventually, his own anger would take over and with two powerhouses (though that was bold to call them both of that considering they were anything but a full powerhouse of something). there was a current argument over eddieâs bike, he had parked it in a thirty minute and he was only about two minutes late when he started to get marked up for a ticket that he didnât need, it didnât help that it was in front of one of the most prestigious apartment complexes and he was, apparently, blocking some guys way. it was two against one (two, eddie, two!) and venom had a lot of not so nice things to say, a lot involving something about cutting their head off and things that eddie wonât repeat but he can hear them and that was enough. âalright man, iâm leaving if youâll let me.â his fists are clenched in his hands and heâs fighting every single urge that tells him to act otherwise and he knows that this will escalate into something that he doesnât want until he hears someone else start to talk. âoh great,â he whispers, rubbing his temple.Â
âitâs fine, we were just leaving.â he has his hands on his bike and he can hear the cop talking about the parking ticket when eddie sighs. âgive me the fucking parking ticket then man!â he grabs it from him shoving it in his pockets and flipping the other angry guy off whoâs got their arms crossed staring at him like heâd just absolutely ruined his day by being slightly over the line.Â
if this wasnât an almost every day sight. donna heaved a sigh the closer she got, a better look over to where the noises came from and one could tell, it was yet another conflict with cops.
her fists had almost begun to curl, but she needed to remind herself to be on her best possible behavior. after all, picking up a fight in front of the police could only harm the other man, who packed quite the temper, she noticed. ending up in a cell would be bad for both - donna didnât know if the police in this city was as easy to slip past as the new york she knew of.
âno need to get hostile in here, donât you think?â she spoke as she approached the stranger, the question contradicting her initial intentions. perhaps pretending to be acquainted with him could bring a quick end to this. âwhat seems to be the problem? youâre not ruining a perfect morning over a parking ticket, are you?â
risky decision, but her hand reached forward, briefly resting against the civilianâs shoulder. a silent message from the amazon ; not here to do any harm. be it the years of associating herself with her worldâs biggest heroes and the villains that came after them, but donna had come to learn to recognise certain behaviors. and the erratic responses from the man seemed to hide more than just somebody's zealously to walk away from a pair of officers.
this was new york city after all. it is in a completely different universe but new york is new york wherever you go. the same attitudes. the similar streets. back home. there would also be a story of someone getting into a FIST fight on the streets. so sheâs not surprised to see it happen here as well.Â
she hadnât paid attention to exactly WHAT started it. although as she thought before, this was NEW YORK. it does not take much to rile new yorkers up. especially with recent events. so for lois, this is more of a natural occurrence rather than BIG deal. but being who she is, she wants to jump in. sort the issue out.
but before she can, someoneâs already beat her to the punch. â well okay then. â is the first thing out of her mouth. after being witness to so many of clarkâs and other heroesâ fights, sheâs SURPRISINGLY rational when in them. â letâs ask questions first before getting involved. â itâs more of a futile attempt at peace because the other looks READY TO GO.Â
truth to be told, donna was ready to jump at any action thrown her way at any given moment now. blame it to the load of new information she had to stomach, or simply the fact that this world didnât recognise anyone and anything she grew up knowing of. a punch or two would blow off some steam.
but she knew better, deep down. themysciraâs amazons had taught her better. she could throw punches around and diffuse the situation, a feasible solution â but would it be effective?
âask questions firstâ â was that the voice of reason? it had the amazon pausing on her tracks, a quiet sigh slipping past her lips while her gaze seeked the source of such words. itâd be a futile attempt to keep her back, werenât it for the woman seeming familiar.
âwhy does it feel like iâve seen you before?â donna wondered, loudly enough for the other to hear. head tilted to the side, brows furrowing in confusion â and a hand came to stratch on the side of her head as she came to a stop, a sigh accompanying her movements. she was shifting the focus from the situation⊠right. âright. questions first. i suppose youâre good at asking questions?â
if questions brought them to a dead end, her FISTS would be next. the magical lasso would be too much of a show.
Charles did not hate many things in this world, he really did not like the word hate, he felt that ithad a very distasteful connitation. But if there was one thing he hated more than anything, it was the fact that people too often made incorrect assumptions about him based solely on his chair, a very frustrating assumption indeed. Especially when it leads to situations such as this one. Â
Charles had been minding his own business as he strolled along, out to get some fresh air and potentionally a bite to eat. He loved the school and the students in it, but every now and then, the telepath enjoyed a stroll away from the large grouping of mutant minds always right in front of him as it was at the school. Mutant minds always seemed louder, and there are only so many times one can listen to the same loudly shouted lewd thoughts of a teenager before needing a break.Â
While he was out he heard the panicked thoughts of a nearby elderly woman. He quickly made his way over there, calling out to the assaliant to stop. Of course that did turn the assaliants attention onto him, as he felt himself hauled from his chair by his shirt. God he really didnât want to do this, he hoped to solve this problem with no use of force.Â
âNow my friend, I feel like we are beinging a little hasty here, there is no reason to get so violent. Why donât we have a calm conversation andâŠâÂ
Thats when he heard the voice of another person, jumping in to help the situation. Oh, He felt like was about to get very interestingâŠ
This city remained unchanged. Donna wasnât surprised when she saw an elderly woman targeted â no, some things remained the same, no matter what. The Amazon heaved a sigh to herself, pace quickening effortlessly to catch up with the assailant. Only then did she notice the third person in this short lived (so she believed it to be) equation ... and he sure didnât seem to be fitting in. A potential mugger, a terrified woman and then, this man. One would expect a cry for help, an attempt to fight back against the muggerâs â but the stranger seemed unusually calm, features calm and reserved. The exact opposite of whatâd you expect out of somebody forcefully dragged out of his chair. A quick glance and she could swear he almost seemed to be enjoying this.
A hasty assessment of the situation and Donna quickly urged the elderly woman to flee the scene before she turned to the men in conflict.
âIf I was you, Iâd let go and leave right now. Back away.â Of course, her warning was underestimated, only had the opposite impact â the thug did, indeed, let go of the other to turn against her. She wasnât going to showcase her abilities just yet, not against one person. A swing of her arm was enough, a forceful punch throwing the arrogant man into the ground. Was that enough to diffuse the situation?
Finally, she could turn her attention to the strange man in the chair. The Amazon sauntered towards him, opting to ignore the assailant. Whoâd be dumb enough to ask for a second punch?
âYou could take this man out on your own.â She spoke, gaze meeting his. Her words seemed more of a statement; Donna had been associated with many powerful beings, gods even. She knew a look of power when she saw one - that, or he was completely arrogant. Sheâd opt for the first possibility.
Being a vigilante on the side was not the sort of thing Karolina planned to do - being a hero wasnât anything anyone planned to do, she thought. And the vigilantism wasnât something she did often, but whenever it happened she felt a rush of excitement wash over her, almost like she should be doing this all the time. This time though, Karolina wasnât ready, she wasnât looking for it. Sheâd been running down the street to catch the bus when her wallet tumbled from her pocket, and from there, into the hands of some people that really didnât want to give it back. Dammit, she was going to be late for class again, wasnât she?
âHey, come on,â Karolina tried her best tough-guy voice, hands on her hips and everything. âYou really donât want to mess with me; I glow. And you wouldnât like me when I glow.â The men laughed, rifling through her cash and pulling out her credit cards. Karolinaâs fingers went to her bracelet, but before she could pull it off, the voice of another woman cut across the laughter and in came someone else. Then, suddenly, the men whipped knives out and Karolina was snapping off her medical alert bracelet, pocketing it carefully.
The blonde lit up in an array of colors, bright as a neon sign, and as dazzling as a star shower. âStay behind me, lady! I can keep you safe!â Though, little did Karolina know, the woman could take care of herself. âAlright, tough guys, have you ever had a faceful of sparkle juice because-â Karolina rose into the air, firing one stream of energy into the face of one of the men, while the other two advanced on the other woman unbeknownst to the distracted Karolina.
Donna thought sheâd be preventing a mugging. Perhaps chase away a couple of assholes trying to flaunt their (toxic) masculinity â but instead, there she was, greeted by a young woman glowing. Literally glowing.
Any other person in the Amazonâs shoes would have freaked out. Run away probably. But it had the opposite effect on her; Donna watched, the corner of her lips tugging into a lopsided grin. What a sight. Almost felt like home.
The woman in front of her clearly didnât need any additional aid. Yet Donna wasnât one to simply forget this incident, turn around and go on with her day, especially when a couple of these thugs chose to make her their next target. Idiots.
âHey! What youâre doing right there â very cool.â Donna spoke loud enough for the other to hear, referring to these abilities of hers. Taking care of the men was no issue, only minutes later and they were laying on the cold, hard ground. Donna didnât even need to punch them hard enough.
Hands clasped together, the photographer ignored the groaning men surrounding the pair (serves them right, she thought) as she approached the other. âNameâs Donna.â She spoke, sparing a smile. âReally foolish of these guys to go against you.â
This had to be what went around finally coming back around. It had been daring for Niko to take on an assignment like this, the rate significantly lower than what he ever proposed let alone accepted after tuning the finer details of his effort. He was in need or something simple, a task that kept his hands busy while he waited for something fruitful in the other cases he was building for no one other than himself. But the most daunting of his efforts was how he decided to make a move now in stark daylight, and no less, on the busier side of town. He had too much faith in the legacy of the bystander a rule, how so many would rather turn a cheek and live blissfully in self preservation rather than involve themselves.Â
Until now.
His opponent freed themselves, but not without piercing his skin with whatever weapon they had managed to move freely as Nikoâs grasp was broken by the emergence of another party.Â
âShit.â The grunt of pain was pressed between clenched teeth, but he had managed to push the person off of him and still keep the weapon right where it had landed. Whether he needed it there to keep the wound closed, or use it to defend himself, he would soon find out. His voice returns to him almost incredulously. âWhat the hell was that?â
Donna moved fast. A blur to the eye, the woman stood in between the two within seconds, forcing them apart. Tug and toss, it was easy to pull them off each other without pulling any punches yet. Both parties went flying backwards, giving the Amazon enough time to assess the situation. Figure out who needed her aid â if not both.
A grunt had her attention, head snapping to meet its source ; coming from one of those involved, right behind her. Sharp blade had pierced his flesh, red stained his clothing and dripped onto the ground. In broad daylight. How could she have possibly been the only one to step in?
âShit.â An expected reaction, really. Donna, under other circumstances, would be the one asking the questions. But with the man stabbed and in such a vulnerable position (again, broad daylight), she opted to focus on him. Even if that meant letting the opposite party slip away.
Sheâd help locate them later if necessary.
Hand reached for him and before he could say anything else, she was pushing him â practically dragging him away from curious eyes. âWhat the hell was what?â A question she didnât really expect an answer to, although it was something she wanted to ask herself. âYouâre hurt. Let me help. I suppose you donât want the police catching up on this?â
She didnât know if she was facing a mutant, a supe, or an ordinary man. Things have gotten ten times crazier than how she remembered this city to be. But he was bleeding and blood  â  blood was never a good sign.
BETSY  WELL  AND  TRULY  had  the  situation  under  control  .  she  breaks  free  from  the  grip  and  manages  to  diffuse  the  situation  without  having  to  resort  to  using  her  mutant  abilities  .  although  it  quickly  re-escalates  with  the  appearance  of  another  jumping  into  the  fray  .  while  she  understands  the  otherâs  intent  ,  she  canât  help  but  let  out  a  frustrated  sigh  .  a  glowing  blade  extends  from  her  hand  and  quickly  slices  the  scooter  thrown  at  the  two  of  them  .  what  comes  next  is  a  purple  butterfly-like  glow that  manifests  itself  around  her  head  and  the  opponent  is  temporarily  knocked  out  .  â  seriously  ?  â  she  turns  to  the  other  woman  .  â  look  ,  i  appreciate  your help but  i  had  the  situation  under  control  .  â
it seemed like her lasso wasnât the only glowing weapon in this encounter. donna was quick to catch on, the purple glow a clear sign she had come across somebody that could give her a run for her money or prove to be a formidable opponent.
but she doubted the other wanted to fight - in fact, she seemed pissed by donnaâs interruption.
â shit â iâm sorry. instict spoke first. â truth to be told, she was used to jumping into action and usually being the only one on field (alongside her team). she eventually spoke again, gaze falling on the knocked out opponent. â whatâs going on here? â her hand didnât leave her lasso, however. didnât have the luxury to carry a sword today.
·.·â    MOST twenty something year old blondes  might be more careful when navigating around the streets of new york ; no headphones, paying attention, actually knowing the street names from each other â but most of those blondes arenât also bulletproof.  she  was vaguely wandering in the direction of the next gym she was teaching at, but with time to kill in-between classes she was trying to better get her bearings âŠÂ  and with headphones in, she didnât even realise some guy was trying to mug her till there was a weak tug on her backpack, and an even weaker fist bouncing off her temple â
Â
â she barely had time to process the attempt before someone came to her air ;  standing their dumbly, also trying to process the situation,  with very little care paid to the group of thugs trying to stand up to the two wonder girls. Â
â my gods,  donna !?  âÂ
maybe she could say something smarter in the moment,  but sheâs  a bit embarrassed her idol, mentor, role model just happened on her attempted mugging.Â
fist tugged onto the strangerâs cloth, donna pulled the man back and away from the blonde. a swift yet powerful tug; enough to send the thug tumbling backwards and onto the ground.
âfive versus one? thatâs a bit unfair...â the amazon eyed the little crowd between the pair as the words slipped past gritted teeth, before her eyes finally fell upon the flabbergasted woman. familiar voice finally registered . . . wait a minute.
talk about surprises. âcassie? great hera - youâre here!â
donnaâs feet dragged forward, to reach for her sister. the silly mugging attempt was disregarded for a moment, seemingly trivial against seeing cassandra again â who donna doubted sheâd come across prior this morning. she had yet to meet anyone she knew, much less her family.
but of course, they still had to deal with these men. how foolish to think they could take on an amazon, let alone two! âyou guys really know how to ruin a reunion.â donna commented as she stopped a man from laying a hand on her, grip tight mid-air. her fist was soon to follow and he wouldnât like it, guaranteed.
âhey, wonder girl. mind giving me a hand?â
donna had come to learn the busy streets of the city by heart. not much had changed, except from her being almost a stranger to a city she'd built a life on after the titans went their own ways. and a couple of new locations she had yet to explore.
camera was carefully tucked in her bag, shielded away â the amazon had concluded she desperately needed to find herself a new gig. sword offered her accommodation and enough support, she couldn't complain. but it didn't feel right.
first things first ; she needed a few new shots, preferably landscapes. that portfolio wasn't going to fix itself. and so she found herself wandering the streets, grabbing a bite on the go, scouting for an ideal location. until . . . was that a person getting hauled? a fight? it certainly didn't seem there were any peaceful intentions there.
    what the hell?
âhey! want to pull that attitude on me?â the amazon jumped in before even assessing the situation â be it aiding [ THE READER ], aided by them or facing against them, she'd find out soon. really soon.
( mental note to herself; do not break the camera. )
