god the backrooms left me feeling so uneasy and uncomfy in my skin and it was strictly the actual backroom dimension itself. and also the fact that clark would rather stay there eating still lifes than get better and do better for himself. its so uncanny and... i cant explain it but i hope someone else gets it

we should bring back the supernatural fandom somehow having an extremely specific gif for literally every occasion though
i know you guys are still out there. i know you still have your .gif folders. don't pretend you're not.
you. you get it.
I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.
Part 1
Backrooms (2026) - Kane Parsons, A24
Iron Lung and Project Hail Mary as "men who persevere against impossible odds and find courage in the depths of despair"
Versus Obsession and Backrooms "men will willingly stay in a literal horror movie situation over confronting their mistakes and taking responsibility for their actions"
the backrooms, inspired by teun hock “Untitled, 2000”
This might be a hot take, but I thought what they did for the "monster" of the Backrooms was ABSOLUTELY GENIUS! How it organically builds upon how the Backrooms work, how it connects to the real world and its people (specifically Clark), and how it creates something that is dangerous and terrifying, and yet at the same time, frighteningly human!
Let me ask you something. Do you think it's interesting that out of all the "people" that were in the Backrooms, Clark's was the only one that was actually dangerous and was actually going around killing people? That's because the Backrooms remembers things in the real world, and "the more times it remembers, the less it does" until it only remembers the details that stand out the most, like how, when you remember a childhood bedroom, you only remember specific furniture or decorations. And the same goes for people!
Because Clark's life is dominated by his anxieties, frustration, fears, and, most importantly, his desire to lash out at everything he thinks is to blame, the Backrooms only remembered those negative feelings. And eventually they all culminated into this dangerous entity. Just like how he lashed out and attacked others that he believes are the fault of where he is, this entity of his own (unintentional) making lashes out and attacks everyone in sight, because, as you can see by the expression on its face, it too is driven by those same anxieties and fears!
That's what makes this my favourite Backrooms entity! Because it's not just another murderous fiend that kills for the heck of it. It's something that beautifully and brilliantly connects to the world it's a part of, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD, and helps make Clark one of the best horror movie "villains" in recent memory!

I finally watched backrooms and for those who were saying it was racist because it depicts a black mans descent into insanity, and because the person who wore the Captain Clark suit and was CG'd over a white actor, claiming that it is racist/blackface to do so do not understand the historical context of blackface, nor understand blackface as a whole period.
You also do not understand colorblind casting. Clarks cannibalistic actions were also not rooted in racism, especially as it did not depict him as savage or aggressive or anyhting. He just so happens to be a black man that has horrible emotional and self control. If this was a white man, yall would be drawing him and putting him in the tumblr sexyman comps. You niggas just cannot handle black antagonists. Black representation INCLUDES casting us in antagonistic and monstrous roles, and this film handled this with so much tact and care, to ask for more is lowkey selfish. This is what black horror fans have been asking for and quite frankly I do praise the movie for this. Also, i trust my historian friend who, actively studies, researches, and engages in discussions on black culture/black stereotypes and our subjagation in films, more than I will ever trust some random tumblr post thats 6 paragraphs long and manages to miss the entire point of the movie, ESPECIALLY trying to compare it to a film that is saying an entirely different story and doing an entirely different thing, that is ACTUALLY trying to speak on the black experience. To try and view the Backrooms as a black film, when it is not, and not trying to be nor claimed to be, and try to say it is racist FOR not trying to be is dumb. This is like saying Candyman is racist and that Obsession is sexist. Lets use our heads. Not everything is as black and white as yall want it to be.
I loved this movie

what gets me about the two different kinds of backrooms theories is the “that’s just a game theory/cinemasins/the creator put this here to tell us this and that” approach to the backrooms doesn’t engage with the overall themes of the work.
The backrooms is about an abusive and manipulative man who doesnt want to be better because it means changing who he is fundamentally as a person. The backrooms remembers this; it takes Clark and his fear but also his abusiveness and manifests it into what the second half of the movie is.
Pirate Clark doesn’t have that pained expression on his face and is chasing after Mary because he is the ‘real Clark’ and needs help; he’s ‘afraid’ because Clark was afraid. And he’s chasing after Mary because this entity is violent and was created from Clark’s violence. There is no “pirate clark is secretly this, real Clark is secretly that,” it is just a man who refuses to change his nature because he refuses to admit he’s wrong, even when he is actively looking his own violence, carelessness, recklessness, and manipulation in the face. And then it kills him.
That very reason is why I refuse to watch channels like CinemaSins or GameTheory, because they’re just absolutely garbage at understanding themes and intentions. Like, the film is not trying to pull the wool over your eyes, it’s pretty clear with its intentions.
In this scene, Clark says "Can you imagine how good that must feel?"
"There's no thoughts, no pain, no ego. No fear. They simply exist. Like furniture."
But then when he turns the light off, the wheelchair user turns his lamp on. When Mary hits The Pirate with the concrete piece, he yells in pain. Clark consoles The Pirate as though its feelings might be hurt. And when the memory of his wife sees The Pirate, she tries desperately to get away.
They have every one of those things. He just refuses to see their interiority. Like he always did. Like he refused to understand why his wife would kick him out, and keeps refusing, even now that he can see that she was terrified of him. Cause she's always been just furniture to him.
This is why I think it would be really interesting for people to make their own Still Life versions of themselves. I know for the two of us, it would be cathartic, as a person that’s been disrespected and mistreated a good amount.
