“I-I don’t know, I…this isn’t where I was supposed to go.” He’d followed their instructions, Billie’s, and the Shadow in that place. They’d told him what was happening, what this meant for everything, for the world, for his friends…. no, his family. and so they had made a deal with him, allowing him to go back. He needed to go back. 

“There’s somewhere else I need to be. My friends, they need my help. Where…where am I?” He asks, this wasn’t earth. He realizes there are no people around other than the man who spoke to him, a man who’s energy felt strange, not like anyone else he’s met. Not humans, or Cas, or even Billie and the creature in the void.

 “If you know who I am….If you know about my powers, then you know what’s about to happen. I have to be there to help stop it. Can you help me find my way back to earth?”

    “You thought I STOPPED?”

    The disbelief at her words put a sharper pitch to his tone as he glanced back at her, his eyebrows raised. Oh, he knew he was brash with how he approached things—it was something to change, but it was still very much something he STRUGGLED with. Maybe it really did SEEM that he had stopped caring, it wasn’t hard for him to turn off that switch at points, but he couldn’t with her. He could play the card, but it was flimsy excuse at best. Still, it HURT at little at her question, a slow exhale escaping him before he continued.

    “I…I worry myself SICK over you, you think I stopped CARING?”

She stays in bed, back turned to him. Not another word; only silence.  Friends don’t  lie, Yet it’s all he’s done for a hundred days and more now. First, he says ‘soon’ on day twenty. Then, he says soon on day 200, and on Halloween he breaks their halfway-happy promise and continues his lies to her. Lies about mama now. Lying about her for so long, telling her that mama was gone. But now she knew. “Lies.” she mutters softly, clutching a pillow tight against herself. She wants to believe Hopper. Somewhere, she knows he cares, but in that moment, it feels impossible to accept so. “Go away.”

They stop when Mike begins to search in his bag, caramel eyes watching quietly, observing. This reminds her....reminds her of the first night she had met Mike. It was raining just like it was now. She had been so scared that night. The bad men had been after her. But Mike and the others had found her, helped her. She felt calm with him, safe when he looked at her. With him, somehow it always felt like everything was going to be alright.

“Okay. Share.” She gives a small nod, a smile slowly hinting onto her lips, eyes meeting with Mike’s. They are both soaked and she finds herself shivering lightly from the cool breeze that comes with the rainfall. He’s opened the umbrella, and her hands move to wrap over his for a moment. It feels warm like this. Mike’s hand are warm and it brings comfort to her in the midst of the storm. “Thank you.”

mike   was   a   constant   source   of   comfort   ever   since   his   disappearance.   coddled  him  almost as much as his mother. don’t get him wrong, he was grateful for it. there were times when he needed it. he was pretty good at it, except for when he wasn’t. it had been one of those times. “ i thought friends didn’t lie. ” his lips formed a sad sort of smile. he knew mike meant well, he always had. but he didn’t need his best friend lying to him. the words didn’t help, despite their intentions.

It wasn’t a lie. No…well, not completely, alright? He just knew that Will wasn’t the type of person to hurt him, or anyone else ever on purpose. “Can I rephrase that then?”  He asks. There was no point in lying to his best friend,  not that it was what he had intended to do in the first place. “….It hurt, when I thought you were…gone. Like,  gone gone.” he admits, remembering the night at the lake, when they had thought someone had found Will’s body. The shock, hurt, and rage he had felt that night….to believe he had just lost a friend he’d assumed would be around his entire life. But how could he even call that Will hurting him? none of them were to blame for what had happened. “Other than that, I really can’t think of another time.”
