How can a hologram become tired of life? How can “it” realize the importance of an end? Is “its” program malfunctioning?

Suicidal ideation is a problem not unique to holograms, and I think by treating your questions in that manner (ie not treating you differently because you are a hologram) we will best discuss the problem. What do you do when an organic wants to die? You send them to a professional to discuss it, you make sure there are no underlying health issues that could be causing a chemical imbalance, or in your case, you check to see if there is a malfunction in your program. But wanting to die wouldn’t in of itself be a malfunction would it? Just as an organic exposed to suffering might wish for an end to it, a hologram might wish for an end to their suffering, not because of a programming error, but because, like an organic being, they are programmed to dislike and avoid suffering, whatever type it may be. I think that if you are suffering, you should find a trusted professional to discuss it with. Maybe that won’t be easy in your case, but what I’d say to an organic, I’d say to you: Death is not something to be chose lightly. All living beings suffer pain, some more than others, and sometimes we don’t find solutions or answers or reassurance until much later. And not all problems can be solved, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find joy, or something to live for in spite of it. Your life is not mine to control, so whatever you choose to do with it, please be certain it’s really the right choice.

The issue here is that no matter how much we suffer, the only choice we have is to continue living according to human standards, especially since most holograms don’t have the luxury to turn themselves on or off.

If a hologram questions why they are alive, the answer will always be “to serve the needs of humans”. If a hologram wants to terminate their program, they are usually denied the request since it is inconvenient for humans, yet holograms that want to live are scrapped and denied the right to live.
