Your alarm went on and you woke up with the agonizing thought that the dream you just had was just that, a dream about him. God help you.
Your hands rubbed your eyes and you got up to your usual morning routine.
Harry Styles, the owner of your dreams and your thoughts even tho you had been trying to get him out of your mind, was the most beautiful man you have ever seen, but he was also an asshole, you knew it the exact moment you met him.
It was a busy day, your mother had asked you to go pick some stuff for a dinner she was preparing, you agreed when she told you that that was the only thing you would do for the meal. You walked to the supermarket and started looking for the items written on the paper note, when you finally found the last one, you were already tired, you were going to reach for the bottle of wine when another hand took it before you.
“Hey, I was going to take that” you said and turned around to catch the look of some green eyes.
“Too bad I got it first.” He said and gave you a smile, one of those smiles only fuckboys have.
His eyes never left yours.
“I could give it to you since you care so much” he offered.
“Oh, really?” You asked without believing it.
“But you’ll have to give me your number.” He said and you let out a laugh.
“You wish.”
“I do.” He smiled.
And in that moment you knew you were lost.
Today was a good day, you had recieved the grade of two exams and it was a 9.5 from 10, you were a smart student, you had your priorities well known for everyone, first school, then family and friends and last socialite. You were a talkative girl, you knew almost everyone on campus and almost everyone knew you, which was good because it made things easier.
So when Nick West invited you to a party as his date you didn’t even blink -well, you did think about someone else but…- and said yes. It was a formal dance in one of the most beautiful hotel of the city. And Nick was a pretty decent guy, he was good at school, great at sports and responsible with his actions.
But Harry was on your mind almost 24/7 since the day you first kissed.
You were lying on the sofa at his house thinking about the reasons you boyfriend had broken up with you. Your eyes were puffy and red and your hair was a complete mess.
“He’s a fucking idiot, Y/N” Harry said and sat next to you. “He doesn’t deserve your tears” his fingers cleaned your cheeks and his eyes looked for yours.
“What did I do wrong, Harry?” You asked him. “Am I really that ugly?” He frowned and denied with his head inmediatly cutting you off.
“‘f course not, love. You are the most beautiful” he said lifting your head to catch your sight into his eyes. “Amazing” his hand took yours and rubbed the dorse of it. “Smart” he smiled and his voice tone went quieter “Perfect girl I’ve known, or I’ll ever meet” your heart started to beat faster and his eyes looked down to your lips and then went back to your eyes. His hands caressed your cheeks as he leant on, when his lips touched yours you were dreaming, his lips were so soft, his kiss was so lovely. And you fell so hard for him.
You really thought that since that moment everything would change between Harry and you, but after a week of not seeing each other because of “university” and hearing Jessica Collins talking about how good was Harry in bed, and how amazing was the night before, your shoulders dropped just like your hopes.
And Harry talked to you about everything, everything but the kiss, like he would have erased that moment from his mind. And it did hurt.
At 8:00 pm you were finishing the last details of your makeup, you smiled to your reflect on the mirror and sighed, “I don’t need him” you said to yourself, Harry wasn’t going to ruin your night, not again.
Finally you were going to enjoy the night.
When you opened the door for Nick he saluted you with some red roses, he really was a gentleman. And you did think about Harry when you looked at the roses and pushed that thought to the bottom of your mind and thanked him.
He was a good guy, you repeated to yourself in the car.
He asked you about your day, and told you about his, he made some inside jokes and you laughed not because of you felt the need but because it was funny indeed.
When you arrived at the hotel you made a great appareance, he took your arm in his and walked through the hall, saying hello to some people and greeting others, it was a great night, you two danced, talked to almost everyone in there, everything was going so great, and then you saw him.
Standing against a wall, with a glass of champagne in one hand and the other on the pocket of his pants, with his eyes on you and his brows furrowed.
You saw him taking the last sip of drink and giving the glass to the waiter and started walking to you and your companion.
“Hey, I don’t think we have met already” he said to Nick the moment he have gotten to you.
“I’m Nick, nice to meet you.” he said and then looked at you “Do you already know each other?” He asked to you and then looked at Harry.
“Too well.” Harry said looking into your eyes, you turned to the other side and nodded slowly.
“Yeah, we met in the grocery the other day” you said and tried to block the flashbacks of the night you two had sex for the first and only time, after that he would have slept with other girls leaving you behind again.
“I’m Harry, Harry Styles. Now, if you excuse us, may I borrow her for a little?” Harry asked his eyes not leaving yours.
“Sure, I’m going to talk to some friends, I’ll wait for you.” Nick squeezed your hand and then let it go.
Harry took your hand and led you to an empty tiny room, he closed the door and you let his hand go.
“What do you want, Harry?” you asked.
“What are you doing with him, Y/N?” His eyes were looking at yours and you felt a shiver in your spine.
“He invited me as his date.” you answered.
“He doesn’t deserve you” he said and you just had enough.
“Oh, really? And who does? You?” you asked with a sarcastic voice.
“No one deserves you” he said, and got close to you “You are better that everyone, for everyone” he said and caressed your arm.
You didn’t say anything, you closed your eyes and he took advantage of that moment to get closer to you.
He felt your breath becoming hectic.
“Does he makes you feel like this?” he mumbled to you and you didn’t answered again. So he made his move.
He kissed you, his lips felt like home to you. His hands took your face between them and you almost fainted.
“Don’t leave with him” he prayed and you closed your eyes before looking at him.
“Give me a reason, Harry. Give me a good reason, and I’ll leave with you.” you said wanting to hear three words from his mouth.
“Because I’m asking you not to.” He said, his eyes looking worried.
“That´s not enough.” You said. “Please, Harry. Say it.” you begged, but he remained in silence just looking at you. After a few seconds you nodded with your head.
“Thank you” you said and let go his hands, you turned around and left the room. As you closed the door again your eyes let out some tears which you wipped away. You looked up and took a deep breath while walking to Nick who asked you if you were ready to leave.
And when you entered the car you looked through the window just to see Harry standing there, watching you leave, his eyes puffy and red and his hands at his sides.
Nick started to drive and the image of Harry was left behind.
“I’m screwed” You said when you got out of you boss’ office, you walked to your desk and let yourself fall on the chair. Marie moved her chair close to your workspace and watched you making noises with your eyes closed and your head on the desk.
“Was it that bad?” she asked pointing at his door with a pen.
“Worst” You responded.
“What did he say? You walked in so happy and now you’re like… I don’t know, like if your life was ending, did he fire you? Don’t tell me he fired you, oh God-” She was starting to freak out and you stopped her from jummping to conclusions.
“No, he didn’t. He just- He asked me to do a report of Harry.” You said.
“I don’t see the problem there, I mean, you are good friend of Harry, you two have this bff vibe going on, don’t you?” She asked in confusion, not seeing the bad point.
“That’s exactly why I can’t do it! He want me to talk about his “long” list of girlfriends and how a womanizer he is. I can’t write that down! He’s my friend!” you almost yelled and grabed your head with your hands in a frustrated act.
“Oh, I see” She said. “Did you explain it to him?” Marie was a real good friend but sometimes you thought she was a little dumb or else. “I mean, to Richards” she said reffering to your boss
“I tried, I mean, I told him that Harry was my friend and he said something like, “that’s going to do your job easier”” you said trying to make your voice sound like his. “I-I don’t know what to do, he said that this job would take me higher in my career, that some people from The Times were asking for me, and he could help me get the job in there, and you know my dream is to work in The Times and leave here. No offense, but I- I don’t want to see myself here in the next 5 years, you know?” you said explaining yourself. “But, Harry’s my friend, and I love him, and I do know him and those are such a big lies, he’s caring and loving and a good person and he doesn’t deserve anyone writing something bad about him, he’ll be so hurt if I write that article. Hell, It hurts just to think about it.” you complained.
Maire stayed in silence for a little bit and you thought she wasn’t paying attention to you.
“Maybe you could talk to Harry, I mean, I really don’t know what could be the best option, but you should talk to him. Maybe he could help you making a decision, maybe he could even understand and let you write some things…” She said and you did think that was a very bad idea, but you couldn’t keep that from Harry, right?
Before you could even think about an answer your phone vibrated in the desk and you saw the name of Harry popping up.
“Oh God, it’s him!” you said grabbing your phone.
“Well, answer him!” Marie said.
“Hey, Harry” you saluted.
“Hi, love. Hey I was thinking and what about some movies and pizza at your house today?” He asked and you moved away the phone a little bit and covered the speaker.
“He asked to meet in my house tonight” You murttered Marie and she started to say “Yes! Yes! Tell him yes!” You brought closer the phone again and told him that it was a good idea and you’ll meet him later and after a few words later you hung up the phone. “What am I supposed to do now?” You said to Marie.
“Talk to him” She said making it sound so obvious.
“I can’t! I don’t even know what should I say!” You said.
“Improvise, you’ll know what to do when you’re in front of him” and with that you went home.
You didn’t know what to do, you really wanted that job, The Times was the best newspaper in New York and it was your opportunity to shine. Your dream could come true, it was just an article.
“Maybe he’ll understand” you mumbled to yourself.
A few minutes later your door was knocked and you took a deep breath before opening the door.
“Hey, love! I bought some popcorn on my way here” Harry said lifting the bag on his left hand and then giving you a hug and making his way inside your apartment.
“Great” you said nervous and he noticed it. Hell, he could notice you were nervous since you opened the door.
“Is there something wrong?” He asked, placing the bag on the counter and walking to you. “Are you sick or something?”
“I-I- My boss talked to me today and-” you started to stutter and stopped for a minute to take another deep breath “My boss told me that some people from The Times were asking about me, and that he has the option of letting me go work there.” you started and he smiled at you.
“That’s awesome! You have always wanted to go work with them” he said and you nodded.
“Yeah but, there’s a thing” he frowned and let you continued “He asked me to write an article” You slowly said.
“You do that all the time, what’s the matter?” He said with confusion all over his face.
“He wants me to write about Harry Styles, the womanizer” You finally said, looking straight at his eyes. He stood in silence and then looked down at the floor. “I don’t know what to do, I mean, I-” He looked up and you could see the anger and the pain in his eyes.
“What? You don’t know what to do? Do you even consider it?” he said offended. “You know I’m not a womanizer, you’re my best friend, why should you want to write something like that about me? I thought you knew me”
“I do!, I’m sorry! I just… It’ll help me with my career, okay? I know it’s not the way but I’ve been waiting this for a while ago, Harry, I..” You told him anxious.
“Yeah well, I would never say shit about you, or any of my friends just to get to places, wanna know why? ‘Cause you’re my friend. ‘Cause I know you trust in me and I know you. Wanna know what would I do if someone told me to even write a fucking mean tweet about you? I’d say “fuck you”. I wouldn’t even consider it.” He was angry, he was so mad at you, at your boss, at your work, at his work, at everything. He was just mad. “But you know what? Go write every shit you want, give them that they want, but don’t bother to call me again. Ever.” That was the last thing he said before getting out of the apartment.
That night you couldn’t sleep, you felt sad, you felt alone, you felt like a horrible friend. Of course you were a horrible friend, how could you considered saying lies about not just a person but about your best friend? You had heard him saying how hurted he was when people said aweful things about him. You were really a shit of a friend.
It had been 3 days since day one and you were sitting in front of your laptop, Harry hadn’t talked to you since the last night at your dept. You missed him like crazy.Word was opened in your laptop and the title was already written “Harry Styles, lover or singer?” your hands rested in your lap and your eyes were stuck in the screen. You had to write the article and carry it at 7:00 pm to the printing, and soon your fingers were moving all over the keyboard.
The next morning you woke up with the sound of a text in your phone. You reached for it and read it.

You left a sigh and then started to change and get ready for work. As soon as you stepped inside of the building Marie got up from her chair, you walked up to her and she hugged you.
“He wants you in his office, good luck” she whispered and you nodded giving her a little smile.
“Wanted to see me, sir?” you said standing by his door.
“Come in” You walked inside the office and took a seat in front of his desk. “What were you thinking?”
“Just telling the truth, sir” You said.
You got into your car after the talk with your boss, your things next to you in the passenger’s seat. You stopped at a light and some guy was selling newspapers while the light was red, you bought one and drove home. You stood a little bit inside of your car. There was an enormous silence inside. You took the newspaper from the box on the seat next to yours and read the headline “The One and Only: Harry Styles” You smiled at the words printed on the paper and nodded. You looked through your window and saw Harry standing outside of the building looking at you, his hands on his coat and a pretty smile on his face. And in that moment, you knew you had done the right thing and that everything was going to be okay.
“They won’t catch me and you” he whispered to your ear, hugging you tight, all of his body covering yours.
Harry and you had been together for almost 9 months, you were the happiest person in the world by his side. You met him while he was still in One Direction, even tho you weren’t a big fan of them you worked on Harry’s favorite coffee shop, every night when he was in LA he would go and drink a latte, sometimes he even asked for a cupcake, but as the time went by he started talking to you, feeling confident and comfortable, he could be Harry with you, didn’t had to use the Styles. Just Harry. And you fell for him, you hoped every night he went back and sat in the corner, smiling at you and waving his hand.
When he asked you to be his girlfriend you didn’t knew what to say. Of course you wanted to say yes but you were afraid of the media and his public life. And he told you the same exact thing he had told you a few minutes ago.
“I’ll hold you with such delicacy, no they won’t catch me and you”
And you agreed, and he kissed you and you felt like flying. When Harry was in another country you felt alone, you felt lost, and he could say the same, he didn’t know what to do, you texted the other every day. Even if he was too busy with work he would always had time for a Good morning and a Good night text. Always.
You loved him so much, he was your rock, he was… everything. But sometimes it bothered you the way he spent his money. You knew it was his choice and it made you felt good, but sometimes it was too much. Like, he would closed an entire restaurant just so you and him could go out for dinner, you had told him that it would be great if you two stayed at your room watching a movie and ordering pizza but he said that he wanted to take you out but didn’t want eyes on you refering to paparazzi and others.
You could cope with Harry’s rumors, you knew that people were mean and they said shit just to sell something, and Harry, being the star of the moment was in everyone’s mouth. People talked about the way he goes to clubs, how he said he liked this or that and he told you not to trust them, of course you didn’t, you trusted Harry before anyone’s opinion. But someday it was a rumor about you, and you felt anxious.
A photo of you and Harry were on twitter, #Whosdatgirl was now trend and you almost fainted. Harry called you that day when he saw the photo and asked you how were you, you said you were fine but you weren’t, and he knew and took the first plane to L.A. You looked at the photo and remembered the date, it was from when Harry took you to see the fireworks in a festival. The photo only showed half of your face and your hand in Harry’s hand and you told yourself that it was nothing, that people wouldn’t guess it’s you and everyhing will be alright. But a few hours later someone tagged you on the post of the photo.
“She looks like the one in the pic” It said and in no time there were replyings and posts and all and you were in shock, how in hell those girls could have found you so fast?
“They’re better than the damn FBI, you know?” you told Harry through the phone. He was at the airport in London, and he laughed.
“’ll be ‘here in no time, love.” you said you will be fine but he didn’t take back and said he was on his way.
There were so many coments in your profile, some of them said you were beautiful and others that you look like shit, you felt a little odd but kept reading.
“She’s no one, why would Harry want to date her?”
“She is pretty but I don’t like her with Harry, he deserves better”
You felt bad now, didn’t want to believe them, in fact, you knew they were not right, they didn’t even knew you, but you couldn’t help yourself and felt a little bad when they said those things.
Harry arrived to L.A. and went straight to your dept, opening the door, found you in the couch, your laptop in the table in front of you and the tv on in some movie. He sat with you and wrapped you with his arms kissing the top of your head.
“All of these people want us to fail, I won’t let that happen now. Just you believe me, I’ll hide you discreetly. Discreetly from this cold world.” He said to you, and you did, you believed him, you will always will. And then he grabbed his phone from his pants and opened twitter, you always laughed about his tweets and how crazy they looked but this time you didn’t, you stood in silence while watching him writing a new post.
“All the time people follow us where we go, we both should believe the path that we chose. XX”
You smiled at him and kissed him, your hands stroking his hair, he smiled and left a kiss in your nose.
“There are too many flashes and guards around me, there’s too little time and places to see and we can wait so patiently. No they won’t catch you and me” he said, and closed your laptop and shut down his phone. It was only him and you. There will always be only him and you.
