Let me take this one step further:

I refuse to participate in queer spaces where trans women are not welcomed and celebrated.

I'd rather go hangout in my transfem friend's living room and cook her dinner.

If you ever wanted to know how you can help make a change for your trans sisters, this is it. Let spaces that do not welcome your transgender sisters die off by not participating in them. You can take it one step further and write a message to the organization (or other) managing and planning those spaces and events stating that their lack of transfem inclusion is the reason why you do not participate. As a black black person, this is like my litmus test of whether or not a queer space is right for me. If they are transmisogynist, there is a 90% chance that they are also racist. It doesn't even have to be overt transmisogyny. Transfem erasure is a big red flag because if trans women do not exist in their world, there is a big chance that black people don't either. Transmisogyny and misogynoir are very similar since they are both based in a eurocentric ideal of what a woman is. I know I'm not the only little black girl that got told by their peers that they aren't feminine enough to be considered a woman or be desired as a one. Many of the same arguments used against my trans sisters have been used against black women. This is not a coincidence. Look into your own transmisogyny and there is a chance that you will find racism somewhere in there. Please make an extra effort to protect your BIPOC sisters.
