"oh… yeah, he does that often if you don’t keep an eye on him. it’s why i ride on his shoulders most of the time— it’s more convenient for both of us, i think. that way, we don’t lose each other.” vega let out a sigh of his own, but it was not one of disappoint- ment. only weariness. he didn’t have much of a stam- ina like humans, after all… wiping the sweat off his brow, the prince offered the maiden his hand to shake, along with a friendly smile. “something tells me i can trust you, miss edea,” vega says with a nod, still half-convinced of her true identity being that of an angel. “but if you don’t mind, i’d like a moment to catch my breath. searching on foot isn’t really a strong point of mine— sorry for the inconvenience. oh, right! i’m vega aesti—” he catches himself before the rest of his name spills out. “—just vega. it’s super nice to meet you, miss edea.”
"It's nice to meet you too, just Vega... and it's fine with me if we take a break. I've been walking around for quite a while as well. Why don't we find somewhere to sit down for a few minutes?"
Looking around, Edea spots a cafe with an outdoor patio across the square. Maybe they could sit at a table there for a little while and survey the crowd for any sign of Ekvan at the same time.
"Are you thirsty at all?"
So She Dances || Edea & Ringabel
a blush stains his cheeks, and he hugs his skethcbook close to his chest, casting a glance aside. “i actually lost track of where i was and slipped in here. lucky i did, i think,” then that blush disappears and he flashes her a grin, rising to his feet and moving to the bench to settle down on it.
"i’m quite late for one of my classes—i might as well stick around here to avoid a scolding, eh?”
he opens his sketchbook back to his earliest drawing of her, in a perpetual arabesque. he’s quite proud of it, he even thinks of coloring it. but he thinks he’ll draw some more of the dan- cers, and edea once more, before he does any- thing else.
She reties her pointe shoes as he speaks, lacing the ribbons securely around her ankles. Her classmates trickle in a few at a time, all save a handful pausing at the sight of Ringabel perched on the bench by the door, Edea seated on the floor beside him.
"As long as you're working on something it shouldn't be a problem, right?"
Effortlessly graceful, she stands, balancing on the very tips of her toes.
"I'm sure you'll enjoy the subject matter."
Her expression is playful when she turns to face him. He's delightfully easy to tease. With that last little jibe, Edea skips off to join her classmates at the barre for the warm up.
"how did you know that?" an incredulous look settled on the prince’s face. though she claimed to be human, vega was certainly convinced otherwise. ”wow. you’re amazing. miss angel, do you know where he is right now?” as she smiles, vega can’t help but smile himself, des- pite the never ending worry that plagued his mind. there was something reassuring about this person’s presence. “if it isn’t much to ask… could you help me get back to him, maybe? i promise i’ll return the favor.”
"Just Edea is fine, and I'd be happy to help you find him... the problem is that I seem to have lost track of him as well."
She sighs, shaking her head.
"We got separated in the crowd... and before I knew it, I'd lost sight of him completely. I've been wandering around this area for a while looking for him."
It galls her to get his hopes up like this only to disappoint him, so she puts on a brave face.
"But now there's two of us looking for him. I'm sure if we stick together we'll find him a lot faster than we would alone."

all that she’d get is a soft grunt in acknowledgement of her words. ekvan heads off the path, counting his steps to ten exactly, before turning north-east and beginning to walk in that direction. reaching back behind him, he slides his axe out of its holder and carries it in front of him with both hands.
being off the road won’t be safe, he knows that, so he’s taking precaution. “if you have a weapon, i suggest you take it out now,” he warns. all kinds of monsters roamed these lands, so many that fairies honestly were the least of their worries.
there’s a splash as he steps in a creek, the two of them making their way across a moor, ekvan making his way through the trees as if he can see them perfectly. his breathing is soft, slowly paced, and it’s obvious he doesn’t harbor too much worry… that, or he’s just good at keeping his composure.
"Right."
With a soft exhale, she unsheathes Ise-no-Kami and follows him through the trees. They make for the heart of the forest, and Edea notes that the further they go, the less sunlight filters in through the treetops. Her breathing slows to an even, measured rhythm as Master Kamiizumi had taught her to in preparation for a battle.
As they continue to move in the direction the map had indicated, the atmosphere of the forest changes, becoming decidedly sinister in nature. A chill runs up Edea's spine suddenly, and her grip tightens on the hilt of her sword. There's a pair of eyes on them -- perhaps more than one. She wonders if he's sensed it too.
"Ekvan. We're being watched." She murmurs as her eyes skim their surroundings, trying to locate the source of the gaze she feels on her.
❝ yes, my fair lady —? how might the noble virion assist you?❞
There's a flirtatious nuance in the stranger's voice that she's becoming increasingly accustomed to hearing with every passing day. It seems to Edea as if she can't even take three steps without bumping into another self-styled Casanova.
"You can tell me where I can find some good food around here. I'm starving."
”really strong— wait, really? you do?” although vega was certainly used to confusion from others in reaction to his haphazard ways of explaining, a calm and understanding attitude from someone that wasn’t ekvan was, well… surprising. not that he was complaining! “are… are you an angel?” the words from him are meant to be a question of genuine uncertainty. “you’ll be saving me a lot of time if you actually do,” vega sighs in immediate relief, shaking his head while his droopy pointed ears perked up. “and a lot of scolding, too.” the prince adds, wincing at the thought of being reprimanded for wandering off.
"There's a man who's helping me get home. The friend you're describing sounds a lot like him. His name wouldn't happen to be Ekvan, would it?"
His quiet inquiry provokes a laugh. It's not the first time she's been likened to an angel, and the familiarity of the phrase comforts her, even from a stranger's mouth.
"I'm human, or I was the last time I checked, anyway."
"yes, that would be correct…” he follows her instructions, walking steadily to his left until his feet hit dirt. the different texture ben- eath his boots lets him know he was on the right track. with one hand, he gestures for edea to follow as he started down the dirt road.
nature surrounds them on all sides, and if you look in the trees, you’d see a few elves hopping from the branches with their bows and arrows, hunting for food. deer scampered through the woods, squirrels chittered here and there. ekvan can smell everything, hear everything, he just wishes he can see it.
"it seems peaceful, but danger lurks around every corner,” ekvan says after a long while of walking. then he comes to a halt, turning his head in edea’s direction. “are we about there?”
Ekvan's voice startles her out of her peaceful wonderment at the scenery that surrounds them. It almost reminds her of Luxendarc -- almost. The wildlife was notably different.
"We should be. Let me check..."
Consulting the map, she comes the conclusion that they should leave the path soon and head north-east through the underbrush. If all went well, they would probably arrive at the grove in under an hour.
"Head off the path about... ten steps to your right. From there on it's due north-east through bush."
To tell the absolute truth, Edea was somewhat apprehensive about leaving the relative safety of the dirt path. At least from there she could still see the edge of the woods -- a means of escape. Once they were in the thick of the trees and bushes they would be on their own.
So She Dances || Edea & Ringabel
"but i made you smile—and that’s all that matters to me,” you can practically see the hearts in his eyes. he takes the sketchbook back, setting it aside, then checks the time. 7:15AM. he is already late to class, but something tells him he won’t be going today.
to answer her question, he says, “ah, a little, but not ballet. i’m afraid i’m not too talented outside of illustration and writing.” he looks even more embarrassed. “you don’t even want to hear me sing!” followed by a little laugh.
already, more girls were filing in, and ringabel eyes them carefully. they whisper amongst one another behind their hands, peeking over at rin- gabel and edea curiously, possibly wondering just what the handsome senior wants with their freshman friend!
This time, she really does roll her eyes. She's not sure why the infamous Ringabel of all people has taken such a sudden interest in her, and she's equally unsure that she wants to know the answer to that. To his credit, he's fairly candid when he speaks, and seems to take himself a little less seriously than she'd originally suspected.
"So, are you here to sketch the dancers, then?" Edea inquires without looking at him. She waves cheerily to one of the girls, who grins back in response, then -- oddly -- shoots her a wink, inclining her head towards the man beside her.
It wasn't all that unusual for the fine arts students to quietly slip into one of the classes to practice their figure drawing. The instructors allowed it, on the condition that they not disturb the dancers. There was even a bench by the entrance where they were allowed to sit while they worked.
✿!
She laughs as the blue boy's fingers tickle her scalp, apparently struggling to secure the pink blossom in her mane of thick hair.
"Thank you. I can't see it from this angle, but I'm sure it looks lovely."
So She Dances || Edea & Ringabel
he stares at her for a moment, not expecting her to have been so… forward. a nervous chuckle leaves him. what would she do if he said yes? cheeks flare up, and he swallows, before saying, “i wouldn’t say more than half…” though that… probably isn’t an exaggeration.
he’s only slept with two or three, anyways. that had to count for something! right?!
rubbing the back of his neck, he looks away, as if he’s ashamed. “i do love women, very much so, actually. i love seeing them happy, with blushes on their faces and light in their eyes. i would do anything for them.”
A smile with a hint of smugness tugs at the corners of her lips as she resists the urge to roll her eyes. It was incredibly satisfying to catch him off-guard. The man titters nervously, apparently feeling rather guilty to have his own dirty laundry aired in front of him, so to speak.
"So, women inspire you, then."
She flips back to the page where her black and white double is posed eternally in arabesque, admiring the subtle, understated yet unmistakable beauty of the piece.
"You know, you won't be able to please everyone."
Edea passes the sketchbook back to him. Bending at the waist, she stretches her spine for a few moments, then sets about loosening the ribbons of her pointe shoes.
"Do you dance at all?"
"well, i’m a bit lost," a sheepish smile found its way onto his face. bright eyes turning up to meet the maiden’s own with a hopeful look. “and i have to be his eyes. he’s really strong, but i— i need to get back to him.” it didn’t cross his mind that this individual would have little no idea just what he was talking about, but the look of honesty in his eyes would hopefully convince the other to help him.
"So you've been separated from a friend." She gives the strange boy what she hopes is an encouraging smile as she listens to the somewhat vague and rambling description of the person he hopes to find.
"He's strong," she repeats, "and he needs you to be his eyes..."
An idea occurs to her. It might be a bit of a long shot, but if Edea has learned anything over the course of the past few months of her life, it's to never overlook a coincidence.
"I think I might know who you're looking for."

"don’t be so quick to assume—it takes many a fairy to perform a spell like sending someone to another world. unless your little friend has acquaintances.” his hand finds her shoulder and gives it a squeeze, and for the rest of the ride he’s silent.
once they’re out of town and on a country road, he pays the taxi driver and slips out with edea in tow. usually, he keeps a map with him so vega can guide him the right way. but vega isn’t here to be his eyes for now, so edea will have to do.
"the grove should be marked on this," he hands the map over after pulling it from his small bag. ”if you’d be so kind to guide me in the right direction…”
"You know, I wouldn't actually put it past her." Edea answers wryly.
The rest of the ride is spent in tense silence on her part. As much as she tried to put on a brave face, this was like no challenge she'd ever faced before. One small mercy was that she wouldn't be relying on her own skills alone, and for that she was grateful.
She accepts the map, taking a moment to orient them on it, then looking for the grove he speaks of.
"The place circled in red, I'm assuming... it looks like we'll have to walk a fair distance. There's a dirt road to your left where the pavement ends. We can follow that part of the way, but we'll have to leave the path to get to the grove."
