Mary spends her life developing new types of magic, beyond the traditional potions, spells and jinxes. She starts by teaching herself spoken and wandless magic, both skills she picks up during the war, feeling like she isn’t as talented or valuable as other members of the Order. From there she learns computer code, C++, and how to write spells into programs (she uses a loophole in the law regarding charmed objects, by making her own computer so it is not considered a muggle item). She meets a girl who has adapted the process behind magical paintings for tattoo ink so that can have moving tattoos and uses that as a basis for her work in tattooed protection runes.

Sanjana received the Jeep for her first birthday after Julia’s death, she was three years too young to legally drive but she was taught by Alexander and provided with a fake license by the Council. She only had permission to use it for patrols and the decision was made after vampires and demons using cars became more prevalent so she had a chance of successfully following them. However, she did use the Jeep to sneak out on more than one occasion.

“Thank you, San,” Lou Ellen murmured. Her lips briefly quirked upwards when Sanjana chuckled. “I—I do like jasmine. Or chamomile. Whatever you suggest. I’ll defer to you on official tea business.” It’s not one of her strongest jokes, but she’ll do anything to make this less…painful. “Are you okay, though? How are you—how are you holding up?”

"Let’s try Chamomile, my mum will say that I never quite got the hang of brewing Jasmine,” it required far more attention than she had to give a cup of tea so it normally ended with ruined leaves and an annoyed mum, “besides Chamomile is probably the more relaxing of the two.” She hesitates herself at the question, “Yeah, no, totally fine.”

      ‘   i   —   ‘   he pants,    aches,    curled over at her feet   (   he had shed his animal fur,   the beastly sight of man revealed beneath claws and teeth   ).    in his side,    an arrow still stands plain as day,    lodged deep beneath his ribs   —    blood,   there’s so much,   there’s   —   ‘   please,    help me,   ‘   he coughs out,    hand coming to rest gently on the woman’s leg.   there is noise behind them,    distant but oncoming,    the rush of voices   ;    hunters in pursuit,    predator laid bare and absent on the floor.

       the horror on her face is clear as she stumbles backwards, she had read the passages from the watcher’s diaries and so many books she had lost count, but none of that had prepared her for the pain of the wolfs face or the visceral nature of the change. the hunters are getting closer and her heartbeat is starting to race, “fuck.” she chokes out before sliding under the arm across from the arrow and lifts his body off the ground, "can you walk? or do you need me to carry you.”
