”Don’t tell the kiddos that. By the way, you are…?”
"Someone passin' by."
He snorts, but lowers his hands all too willingly.
“True enough, mate.”
"Can't have fat babies flyin' around shootin' real hearts."
N A H. I said in the FACE.
”But why do we show h e a r t s so… strangely? A heart looks like a fist, not this. Thing.”
His fingers curve into a heart, marked distinctly by the look of confusion and near disgust across his features.
"Because not everyone lives in reality, mate. You look ridiculous doing that. Stop it."
"Tell me everything." Amy asked lightly as reached down for his hair. This was what she missed most when Alex was gone. He was close to her, teasing her. At least for a little while her life would be normal again. His hair was still damp from the shower and longer than when she had last touched it. Amy decided she liked his hair longer for now.
Her fingers brushed through his hair in gentle strokes as she waited for his stories to begin. Amy had missed his voice. It sounded so different over the phone. All she needed was for him to keep talking. As long as she doesn’t fall asleep.
"Don’t you dare leave anything out." Amy encouraged. "You also owe me at least five more kisses before I go to sleep."
"Do I?" He would actually sit up to kiss her, but he had missed her playing with his hair. Ever since it got longer he really did enjoy her fingers slipping through his hair. This was something he could get used to. Alex sighed contently and got himself comfortable. There was so many stories. He'd save a few for later. No point in telling them all now.
"I wish you had been with us in South America. You would have enjoyed the beach. You could have done something with Matt's girl." She would have probably ended up hanging around all of them just like Matt's girlfriend did. His hand moved down to hold onto her knee, just keeping it there and holding her. "We had a few days off and we did some things around the city. We played some tennis. You missed me in shorts, love."
She switched positions so more weight was on the left side of her body. She started at him flicking ash off the cigarette before taking another puff. She shook her head after exhaling deeply through a sigh. “Look….. Having been immortal was great. A solider and what not…. But knowing I can die doesn’t scare me.” She replied through an almost harsh tone. "I have a mission. Something I need to get done. People I need to hunt down and I have my reasons." she scoffed. Her eyes glanced over him up and down. "Never thought I’d meet Death in the flesh." she replied shrugging it off like it were nothing. It didn’t faze her much.
"That's what I am, not who." Thanatos would have to be clear on that. The 'man' was not the older one who showed up to deal with the apocalypse that never happened, yet both very classy. He had spoken with him a few times before, had no respect for him at the time. "My mother wouldn't be pleased to find me here, talking to a fallen." She was very strict to who he spoke to. Nyx didn't want her cycle to break. Her children were very important to her especially since the fall of the Gods and Goddesses. Thanatos' hand came up to pulled the fur collar away from his neck. It had started to dig into the his neck, scratching at the skin. Greece had been a much more comfortable weather climate than this here. "We all have our missions, but I rather you not piss my sisters off. They're violent here against the humans you should have to deal with 'em up there." Fucking harpies. "Mother keeps them locked up. Have you ever seen a Keres?"
"But if you must," he moved his hand, welcoming her to leave if she wanted, "I am not here to stop you. Just don't go looking if you hear screamin' after you kill it. It's best to hide from somethin' with wings"
She watched him close squinting her eyes in suspicion here and there. He was offering. She took her hand off her bag and grabbed the pack of cigarettes lighting on up before she took a puff and exhaled. “And who are you?” She questioned as if to ask him why he were following her. "It seems you know what I am going to go take out. It’s my job. And besides— it’s been killing innocent people." she went on almost explaining herself even though she knew she had no need too.
"So? Death happens because it's a circle. Birth, Life, Death. If the circle loses a piece the cycle is interrupted and that would cause a lot of unneeded problems. That death isn't my work, but I can't stop it."
No one should try and stop the cycle. Impossible. "Preventing it is preventing the cycle." Thanatos flicked the ash from the cigarette before it burned him. Not that he would feel it. It was out of habit.
"How is it," his head tilted to the side, "to be human? To feel? Knowing that you'll die."
He didn't answer her question. He realized this, yet he stood there, smoking the cigarette. There wasn't of any concern here. He'd answer soon enough. After having that moment to enjoy the cigarette, he answered.
"Death."
She had glanced around to check if she had been following before approaching the car that wasn’t even hers; that was stolen. She popped the trunk and grabbed a bag full of things she had stuffed in it. It was her job to knock this sucker out. It had been lurking and kidnapping enough people as it was. It wasn’t before she had slammed the trunk and made way up the dirt-like path to the forest that was across the street. She was reloading her gun when she sensed there was something near by. Something stalking her? She stopped in her path and searched the area with her eyes.
"You're one of his little soldiers aren't you?" His coat was pulled shut by the few buttons that was on the front of the coat. Blend in his mother said. No he wasn't going to blend he was going to make sure people knew he was something. He was important.
Hands slipped into the pockets of the coat as he continued to get close to her, closing the distance between them. "Why don't you leave the poor thing alone. He's just doin' his job." The Wendigo. It wasn't one of his reapers though. "Not that I know what my sisters deal with." Violence was what they did. Thanatos stopped with enough distance between them so she wouldn't react harshly.
"But if it is causin' problems and they're not doin' anythin' about it, I can allow it." Giving her permission to do something like he was higher up here. He was, she wasn't one of those little soldiers anymore. One of his hands pulled from the pockets of the coat. A pack of cigarettes was in his hand. One was lit and he soon offered her one. "Here, take one." The pack was held out along with the lighter.
It made her so happy that he agreed to come into her room. She followed him into her room and closed the door behind her. Her son was so grown up. She missed her little babies that climbed into bed for cuddles. Both Levi and Lola were too big for that now she supposed. She remembered asking Alex for a third baby when Lola turned five. Eventually, they decided against it.
"Of course," Amy smiled, before climbing onto the bed next to him. "Now what is it that you’re working on? Anything I can help with?" Amy laid on her stomach and leaned forward on her hands. "I’m better than your father, I promise."
"I'd say he'd argue, but you know how he is" He wasn't the type to gloat, well around them at least. It wasn't how he was. He rather make a bunch of noise and disturb the peace. Levi moved the book over close to his mother, letting her see what he was working on.
It was homework he normally didn't have a problem with, but he had been avoiding it for a few days now. "Just Writin' class, mum." Levi wouldn't admit it, but he was turning out like his parents. They both wrote something and here he was writing. Maybe he was more like his dad, but he wasn't going to admit that to himself or anyone else who might have asked.
"I have to come up with some story and I'm no good at comin' up with stories. It's just free points, " not that he needed them but he wasn't going to start not doing the homework assigned, "but I'm sure you can help, mum. You're good at this."
He whined. "Why did you two have to be writers because they expect me to come up with somethin' amazin' and it's not fair."
She got up grabbing her coat, ready to leave the bar and hunt down that Wendigo. “Look, I have to go, now if you’ll excuse me…” She sighed.
He knew the reason why he was in the bar. To get away from his mother, his siblings, the never ending silence. A couple of millenniums of that could get on someone's nerves. That's why the bar was the best place for him. No one knew what he was, but the problem was he knew what everyone else was.
When the woman had gotten up, he felt something strange pull at him. Human, but not human? The cigarette in the tray was picked up and money left on the table before getting up. Coat grabbed and slipped on, he followed her out the bar.
"Since when has a snack ruined anyone’s dinner?" Amy was absolutely serious and she had the hidden drawers of candy to prove it. "But you don’t have to eat, if you don’t want to, Levi."
Amy sighed, before glancing around to find her son the perfect solution. “Come do your homework in my room then.” It made the most sense. The room she shared with Alex was the furthest from where he practiced so that Amy’s sleep would never be disrupted. There would still be some noise, but it was definitely quieter in her room. “Like you used to when you were little.”
Well, it wasn't a bad idea. Plus he wouldn't feel so bad about asking her for help if she was going to be in there with him. Levi smiled a little, nodded, and headed back to his room to gather his school work.
With his things in hand, he headed to their bedroom and plopped the stuff on the bed and climbed up on it, messing the nicely made bed up. Levi was always told to make his own bed all the time, but it wasn't like anyone actually cared if it was made. Adults. Specifically dads.
"Thanks, Mum." The smile was back there again. It was something that was rare anymore. It wasn't like he was angry all the time, just how his face fell. The book was opened again and he had his homework in his lap, starting to concentrate on it.
By the time he had come into the room, Amy’s eyes had closed. But as soon as he hit the bed, her eyes startled open. She touched his cheek as he kissed her. Oh yes, he was hers now. “I missed you too.” Amy whispered as she found a burst of energy to begin rearranging all of the pillows. “Now scoot so I can reach you.”
Alex was just out of the shower and his hair was finally gel free. It was long from the weeks on the road. She set back against the pillows and patted at the empty space next to her. Amy wasn’t sure when this started, but she found it more comfortable for him to lean against her so she could reach his hair.
"You’re not going anywhere tomorrow." He was hers now and Amy was not going to share for a while. "Tell me about your trip."
Oh he knew what she was getting at. It had been a while, but it wasn't like he was going to forget it. Alex did as he was told and got himself comfortable next to Amy. The cover was pulled up over them, trying to warm up after the air from the bedroom hit him.
"Okay. I promise." A grin grew on his face as he leaned back, hand pushing his hair back to get it out of his face. Maybe he should go get a hair cut since he wasn't planning on doing anything for a few weeks. "What do you wanna hear first because I got a bunch of silly shit I can tell you."
Amy bit down on her lip to keep from sighing. Amy had grown to love the sound of Alex practicing, but sadly her children had not. Maybe it was a kid thing. Her Nan used to tell her all the time that she could be difficult.
"If you can work at home, Levi, then so can your Da. It wouldn’t be fair to kick him out of the house now. Besides, I’m sure he’s almost done." Amy turned, determined not to hear anymore complaining. "Now are you hungry? Let me make you something."
"Mum. He's just makin' a bunch of noise!" Levi knew it wasn't going to get anywhere with her. A huff came from him. Levi didn't see the whole 'Your da's a rockstar!' appeal. He was just as annoying as anyone else's dad. Nothing different. Levi couldn't be mean to his mum though.
"Yeah, but I thought we were suppose to go out to dinner tonight because we need to do 'more family things'." Wouldn't more food made it impossible to eat anything else. "I need to do me homework, mum. It's due tomorrow."

"Mum, I swear to god if you don't do somethin' 'bout dad I'm not goin' to dinner." Levi was frowning, like normal, as he pointed towards where the noise was coming from. He was just irritated that he couldn't get the homework he was trying to finish done because someone decided it was a great idea to write that song that they've been stuck on for a few days.
"Don't he have a studio he go to with his mates or somethin'? Mum please."

Amy was sleepy and a little bit frustrated. Tonight was supposed to be amazing. Her boyfriend, Alex, had been gone for several weeks touring and tonight was his first night back. She had planned their entire night out. Amy had ordered her favorite food and had it ready and waiting. Then they were going to cuddle and watch a movie till they fell asleep.
But Alex’s plane was four hours late. She had already packed all the food away by the time he made it home. Amy wrapped her arms around him as tightly as she could, but he had asked her to let go so he could take a shower. Now she was lying in bed, trying not to fall asleep before he finished.
“Alex,” she called out, through a yawn. “You’ve been gone long enough.”
He came out of the bathroom wet and still trying to dry his hair off. "Huh," the towel was pulled away before he started digging into the dresser, "you say somethin' or you just tired on me?" Oh he knew she was tired. Of course he felt guilty about the flight coming in so late. Especially after seeing everything she had did for him. It wasn't his fault, but still.
After he got himself dried off and dressed, he plopped down on his side of the bed, smiling down at Amy. "You better still be awake." Alex leaned down and kissed her. "Or at least enough so we can get comfortable in bed. I missed you a lot."
Amy blinked when she saw him walk in. Of course, she knew who he was instantly, but it was hard to believe he was in the room there with her. Alex Turner knew her name. She stood up immediately. Amy glanced over at her Nan, who was smiling.
Amy didn’t know what to say. She should have said something. At least hello, but it didn’t come out. Instead, she moved forward and wrapped her arms around his neck. Amy hugged him tight.
"Of course, I know who you are, silly." Amy sighed, letting him go. "But how do you know who I am?"
He was prepared for a hug, but it still took him by surprise. His arms went around her to return the hug. Should she be touching him? He thought most of the time they didn't let you touch the people in the hospital because of how sick they were. "Because someone told me I should come see this amazing genius named Amy." He smiled down at her as he removed the sunglasses, tucking them away inside of his jacket. He was glad he was making her day. "So, I was told we were to do whatever Amy wanted to do." If that's how she explained it. He was free all day so this wasn't messing anything up. Alex smiled over at Amy's Nan and nodded. "As long as your Nan thinks it's okay."
Amy was convinced someone was up to something. The nurses kept giving her long, studying looks. She had to think back if she had done something to upset them, but she was sure that she hadn’t. Amy was on a new course of treatment that was making her sleepy on most days. She was no longer roaming the halls unattended like she used to.
Her Nan had even come in early, telling her that she should put on her favorite dress and brush her hair. Amy didn’t understand why she needed to dress up to play a few rounds of bridge with her grandmother. But Amy decided not to argue with her.
She sighed, a little out of breath as she finally took a seat in the meeting room her Nan had led her to. Amy figured her Nan had brought her friends to play cards with the two of them. Amy just wanted to curl back up into bed with her new book. The hospital gift shop had finally gotten a new shipment of books and among them was a novel she had yet to read.
“Just sit nicely.” Her Nan encouraged, before staring at the door. Who was coming that they needed to be here?
“I doubt any of your friends will care with how I’m sitting.” Amy said, rolling her eyes to the door. She couldn’t imagine anyone coming through the door being that important.

So one of his mates mums had asked if he could come see one of the sick patients in the hospital she worked at. Said she loved them and wished she could meet them. He wasn't busy and it wouldn't ruin his day to go see the girl. The situation had been explained to him. He accepted and agreed to come see her. Put a smile on someone's face. He made sure he was up early and made sure he wasn't going to be a miserable twat to the girl. She didn't deserve that. Her name was Amy, yeah that's right. Couldn't forget her name. He got himself dressed, full, and headed out. It wasn't that complicated when he got to the hospital. Explained himself, they knew and gave him all the proper passes to get up to where he was. His friend's mum had gotten a hold of him and was leading him up. Alex was listening to her as he talked. It was mostly about the girl. Once he made it up to the room, the door was slowly opened he poked his head in. A smile grew on his face. "You must be Amy." The door was shut behind him and he moved across the room to reach where she was. "I'm pretty sure you know me."
