Drafts remaining: 4 Asks remaining: 8
I’ve made a little bit of progress here. This is good. I’ll do some more later but for now I need to pay a little attention to my other blogs. Trying to evenly minimize my drafts and now Leon’s counts are a lot lower than Kamui and Ryoma. See ya’ll over there!

Truly he should have just walked away, as their next jab really got under his skin. Takumi felt himself bristle at the mere idea of Kamui trusting them more than himself. It was preposterous that Leon would even suggest such an insane notion. They truly were as much an idiot as he had assumed them to be.
“Why would she trust the people who kidnapped her more than her blood relatives?” his fists clenched at his side when he spoke this time. His anger was palpable, but even he realized this was a fruitless endeavor.
No matter what was said now, they both had to pretend to get along tomorrow while working the mess hall together. If they kept this up much longer he doubted they could even pretend they didn’t want to kill each other. Winding the proverbial violin string of their already strained relationship - if you could even call it that - any tighter would surely break it.
The knot that tightened Leon’s brow was soon ironed out by his strength of will. A calm demeanor was often skin to salt in wounds made by a heated temper. He made a dismissive gesture with his book, perhaps intending to fan even more flames with a show of indifference. After all it was better not to give Takumi’s argument any real credit. If he showed any weakness at all the topic would become a sore spot to be prodded at the Hoshidan prince’s convenience.
In the back of his mind he wondered how two people who were little more than strangers could hurt each other on such deep levels. Maybe there was more truth to the rumor that they were alike than he cared to admit. He decided not to think about it too much (especially not when they were already in the middle of a debate). A loss of concentration in a battle of wits was too obvious a folly.
❝ YOU’RE BEING RIDICULOUS. I was even younger than she was when that happened. Are you going to say what happened that day was a toddler’s fault? Besides, from what I heard you didn’t exactly embrace Kamui with open arms when she came to Hoshido. ❞

“Excuse me. Are you Prince Leon?” It had to be him, but if Soren had learned anything by now, it never hurt to be polite around royalty. And in a foreign nation where he held no power or influence? Even more pertinent.
It hadn’t been long since he had joined this group, admittedly, but he’d learned much of Nohr’s complicated politics just by listening around in towns and such. Some of that information was gossip, of course. With such an iron-fisted king, it was no surprise to Soren how many whispered rumors he’d caught wind of; when they couldn’t actually affect anything in the courts, commoners often turned to simply chatting about their own opinions on the people in power. So, to say he knew who Leon was simple. Less so, however, to actually discern what parts of that knowledge were true.
He was definitely royalty, however, and Soren had little reason to doubt what he’d heard about the man’s cleverness. Someone so perceptive could spell trouble.
“I don’t believe we’ve met,” Soren continued, perhaps a bit stiffly for formality’s sake. “But it seemed a good idea to rectify that, before any confusion occurs.” That is to say, before they had to rely upon each other in any kind of battle.
The war was over and yet wherever he looked he found malcontent. Sometimes he wondered if things would have been different if they’d won. Would Marx have been able to contain the situation or would the same ravages plague Nohr in this bloody aftermath? No amount of lamenting could bring back the dead. Grieving for his fallen siblings wouldn’t better his judgement either. All he could do was carry on for himself, for Camilla who yet lived, and for the kingdom and its people.
However merely resigning himself to what fate had dealt him didn’t make a journey through the city streets easier on Leon. He observed the sickly signs of poverty from behind a steely countenance, forbidding others to know of the ache inside his chest. Those closest to him may have noticed that he held the reigns of his dark steed a little too tightly for a routine outing such as this. Yet then and there the only person with that potential was riding further back to watch for whatever dagger, arrow or stone that might fly from desperate peasants (or worse, trained enemies).
His horse snorted and threw its tail from side to side, presumably bored with the stagnant pace of the party it was leading. A foot soldier easily drew closer to the side of royal man and mount; dark haired, unfamiliar, with eyes like hot coals. It took Leon a moment to place how he knew of him. He was certain he’d seen a glimpse of the stranger somewhere before or else how would he come to be part of the guard?
❝ I AM INDEED. You’re... one of Marth’s companions? I presume... Be at ease if that is the case. A friend of my dear friend is company well met. ❞

@tenebreus
It was late, far too late to be awake and yet the Hoshidan Prince found himself sitting alone under a tree watching the sky. This wasn’t a rare occurrence by any means, he had nightmares rather frequently and would sit outside to clear his head before heading back to bed. Tonight was a particularly rough night and he wasn’t sure he’d be getting back to sleep at all. The thought alone of making it through the day sleep deprived pulled a tired sigh from him. All he’d wanted to do since he woke an hour ago was go back to sleep, but the paranoia creeping into his mind wouldn’t allow it. The feeling of darkness looming just beyond the veil of sleep kept him from even trying again.
A cool breeze blew by, catching his hair on the slow moving winds. He’d not bothered to tie it up into it’s usual ponytail before he left his room. Not with the thought that he would be heading back to sleep soon. Of course that wasn’t the reality and he cared too little in this moment to get a ribbon to tie it back with. After what felt like an eternity of just watching the sky, the sound of approaching footfalls over the grass having pulled him from his thoughts. Hazel eyes quickly landed on the approaching figure and Takumi could just barely make out the form as a certain mage with currently messy blond hair.
“What are you doing awake?” The question was out of his mouth before he could stop it, his tone carrying the weight of how tired he was. There was no reason to question Leon’s choice he realized. They were both awake at this ungodly hour, after all. Too late now, he supposed, trying to shrug off what he was hoping wouldn’t turn into another argument.
He was just too tired to deal with a fight right now.
The campfires had long been doused by soldiers keen to take their rest. A few stragglers were common but for the most part those not yet tired kept to candlelight. They were free to read, agonize over plans or polish their equipment. Some had other ideas completely unrelated to the war lying in wait with the coming dawn. A decent book was usually enough to sate Prince Leon; lately he’d struck a fancy for strategic works and practical tomes. On the rare nights where they were not enough he donned his cloak to take a walk.
He took comfort in the night for all the wrong reasons and he knew it. Whenever he craned his neck to look at an all but starless sky he felt himself consumed by familiar overwhelming darkness. Nohr had so many nights like this one: calm like still waters, harrowing as the eye of a storm. To think that such ominous voids were the only sense of normality he had anymore.
Leon reminded himself that they’d all given up a lot to stand by Kamui (as well as Hoshido). For Marx he presumed their current precariousness was the most taxing of all. History was unkind to failed rebellions, if this is what their quest proved to be, and even if they instead achieved victory it wouldn’t be absolute. He and his siblings would still lose their father for the second time. They’d bury him with their own hands while the rest of this army celebrated. Was it any wonder that he had trouble sleeping? Then again the prince supposed few around him cared to spare any thought for the troubles of the royal family they associated with their enemy.
A bitterness broke in his mouth that Leon swallowed under duress. He’d become so engrossed in processing his hardships that he hadn’t noticed his steps had brought him upon company. The accent was unmistakably Hoshidan (but also typically obnoxious to his ears). Without needing to take closer inspection he knew to whom it belonged.
Prince Takumi. The ‘twin’ everyone loved to compare him to. A nuisance and a friend, often both at the same time. In that moment he was unsure of which side of the foreign prince he would be presented with. Leon prepared his nerve for the former and beheld Takumi with a matching disposition. It was easy to be exasperated when one’s mindset was already jaded by a string of unsettling thoughts.
❝ I COULD ASK YOU THE SAME QUESTION. I won’t though, since its obvious anyone out this late is either up to no good or in need of fresh air. ❞
“ It’s… you’re scaring me. I have this weird feeling you’re going to leave. ”
It had started out as a tactical maneuver, as something he could do to help Kamui from afar, and now it wasn’t. The steely intentions he bared like fangs from the discrete corner of his mouth fell upon her kindness like harsh words on deaf ears. Was it natural that she should warm to a savior who was nonetheless also her captor? He’d read about something like that happening in human behavioral texts and for a while he used it as a basis to dismiss her affections. Then one day he realized he found himself thinking she deserved better; she was too smart, too courageous and gentle. He realized that he wanted to protect her for her own sake (or was it for himself? even worse, from himself).
Someone covered in the blood of her people was not deserving of her hand. A self depreciating thought if he had ever had one. He knew well that should he confide the idea anywhere other than his own mind that he could easily be accused of treachery. A prince of Nohr could not bend in sympathy to a Hoshidan princess while their countries tore at each other’s throats. Land, power and pride were high stakes, not at all comparable to the heart of the individual, especially not inside the dark walls of his homeland.
Yet mixed feelings were only complicated if one allowed themselves to dwell on what they had to say. He had grown learning how to tighten his heart and give nothing away at critical junctures. Logic could be a crutch for a man cutting himself off from his emotions. When he considered the matter properly he realized being cruel to be kind was not only a sensible solution but one he could commit himself to in earnest. By curbing whatever love for each other they had unwittingly cultivated he could still achieve what he’d set out to do. She would remain safe, he could preserve her honor, maybe even someday return her to her family. If he truly loved her then it had to be done.
From this tender love he was thusly barred.
He took her hands in his only to curtly thrust them from his front. Clutching at him was unseemly, or so he needed to project, and could not be allowed.
❝ THERE ARE WORSE THINGS… Besides, there’s no real reason for you to care about my comings and goings. Don’t forget your position… Or who I really am. ❞
@sanguinequiver
❝ WAIT A MOMENT... Who are you? That should come before whatever else you have to say to me. ❞
those of you who follow my kamui have probably already read this but for those who don’t: obligatory mun update ahoy
i disappeared again. sorry. its a little hard to admit it but i’m going through a hard time right now. there are a lot of days where i feel so depressed all i do is get up and go to work and come home and sleep only to repeat it all like a machine. i’m just… a miserable person? i guess. i’m trying to fix it. i’ve started getting out of the house more and also i’m going to a gym now. i’m still carrying a heavy sadness that i can’t shake. so i’m sorry that i haven’t been on my blogs. i lost my way for a while, that’s really all there is to it, and since i’m being honest i still feel that way. my creativity is in a rut. i’m lonely, too. i have people around me so i shouldn’t feel like that. anyway, i’m… sorry, really. and i’m going to try and start posting here again.
don't mind Takumi, he's just gonna sweep Leo off his feet princess style ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
This was by far the last thing the dark knight had ever expected to happen. Never before had he been so abruptly and inappropriately bundled up in arms. He was in the middle of a decent book too (which he almost dropped amid his shock) but this had effectively put the tale on hold.
❝ WHAT ARE YOU– Put me down at once! ❞

he commands it
( a benevolent prince with wisdom beyond his years. he carries his valor by his hip, steely in nature; a legendary blade. his heart beat is the thunder and lightning courses through his veins. how frightfully it tears his enemies asunder. how beautifully it illuminates the sky for his beloved. for if there is a path to be forged within darkness he will be the one to cut it out. )
and you kneel.
"My lord, do forgive me if I am too upfront seeing the current circumstance of our relationship not being too close...But, if you do not sleep within the next 5 minutes, I will personally carry you to your bed to make sure you do sleep." Gods forbid his lord pass out tired on him again
He well remembered the incident on the tip of both their tongues. The suggestion, let alone the thought, was enough to fluster the young prince. His face burned all the way to his ears to momentarily paint him sheepish. It was too much for to verbally acknowledge it; he was similarly glad that his retainer had mentioned it by implication only. Yet vulnerability soon became a petty scowl which Leon directed at no one but the empty space on his other side.
Not angry but certainly a little embarrassed.
❝ I DON’T HAVE A BED TIME! You’re treating me like a child… I’ll take myself to bed when I’m ready to retire. If you want to go ahead and turn in, you may. ❞
A light and delicate brush of lips meets his and as she lowers herself back down from rising up onto her toes, a subdued smile softens her features. ❝ I-It's your birthday so, um, happy birthday. This is for you. ❞ Sakura presses a small gift into his hand, a protection charm common enough in Hoshido, but perhaps not so in Nohr. ❝ It'll keep you safe. ❞
The last thing he expected was for this shy princess to take his face into her hands (let alone put her lips against his lips). Yet she kissed him with tenderness and in doing so duly ravaged his expression. His brow furrowed while he feigned aloofness, cheeks flushed a telltale color, and Leon soon turned his face away. He kept her gift pressed close to his palm despite how awkward and heavy this encounter caused his hands to feel.
It was a small Hoshidan keepsake to her and a significant threat for him. For the wrong eyes to catch sight of it in the darkness of Nohr was something he could not allow. The charm was nonetheless instantly endearing to him; he would not give up her gift. Not even if it would subject him to villainous rumors should it be found out.
❝ WHO TOLD YOU… it was my birthday? ❞
