great question 🧡 the girls are getting some love (but could always use a little more 👀). out of the total prompts submitted so far, 71.8% are m/m, 18.5% are f/f, 3.8% are m/f, and 5.9% fall into a nebulous miscellaneous category that includes multiple pairings of different categories, rule 63/genderbend prompts, players/inanimate objects, etc

Have you ever read David Foster Wallace’s essay called “Roger Federer as Religious Experience”? It’s more so about Roger than fedal as a whole, but it sorta delves into the topic of tennis players as mythical entities like you mentioned lol. It’s also just a SUPER good piece of literature, both for tennis fans and non-tennis fans

When I got this ask I hadn’t read it yet, so I immediately went to look for it online OH MY GOD is it a masterpiece.
I didn’t know that “war’s codes are safer for most of us than love’s” came from here…along with other crazy quotes. I love the tone it’s set in, and it really hammers home the ideas that Roger is a metaphysical athlete, a once in a lifetime experience. There’s really nobody else you can compare him to on the tour. And I think that’s why he’ll always be more famous than Novak or Rafa, because he’s seen as a god. His tennis is ethereal, and just captures your attention.

1-800 BIG FOUR by Rathenon
This one is a chatfic series with some background Novandy… it might sound really cringe but it’s what makes it funny! Basically Novak and Andy notice Rafa and Rogers mutual pining for each other and decide to do something about it. Do be warned, it has mentions to the nextgen players at that time, some of whom are disgraced, but you can skip over those parts. If you want to see Novak saying “get rekt” and Roger using the stupid pc text emojis like they’re kids on Discord, I highly recommend :). Rathenon has a lot of really good Fedal fics as well! I liked this one because it shows the side of Roger not really depicted in most fics, his overthinking side. Usually he’s the one with absolute certainty in everything he does, but Rafa is what messes him up and causes him to doubt himself.

And that’s some of my favorite Fedal fics!! Honestly, this rivalry means a lot to me, and I love how different peopke have different perspectives of it. Where my parents grew up the only sports they could watch were lowk cricket, tennis, and badminton. Throughout my childhood Rafa and Roger were like these mythical creatures of some of the best athletes in the world. It’s been 3 years since i started locking in on following tennis, but ik for a lot of people they grew up watching Fedal play almost every single time :) Thank you for the asks anons!

He needs one of them for a sacrifice to make sure he can beat janniksin when he comes back to defend his wimbledone. Sadly security comes and takes taylor and lore away because they were being too loud and annoying. apparently a ginger reported them. novak curses from his hiding place and melts into the darkness. drat. now his plan is soiled.
Opinion on fedal?? Personally I’m obsessed. Not just by their relationship/potential but also over the era that they encapsulated… the late 2000s early 2010s when internet blogs and stuff like that was at its prime. Ugh I love them

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Tennis RPF Rarepair Prompt Fest (the Tennis RRPPF, if you will). Thank you all so much for your interest! This is a fandom event that will run from June 18th to August 2nd, focused on creating more content for the rarer ships in the Tennis RPF fandom, together!
Based on the numbers on AO3 and the general vibe of the tennis RPF community on tumblr, we are going for a very broad definition of "rarepair" of anything other than Sincaraz, with the goal of generating fanworks for a wide range of other pairings.

How does this whole thing work?
You will submit tennis rarepair RPF prompts via a google form (link coming soon).
Prompts are organized by the mod and released.
You will create fanworks (fic/video edits/graphics/art/etc) based on the prompt(s) that inspire you and post them.
We will all have a bunch of new rarepair content to check out! Fills will be reblogged and compiled on this blog.
The format of the event is heavily inspired by @advantage-tennisblr, a prompt meme that ran a year and a half ago.
What counts as a “rarepair?”
For the purposes of this event, a rarepair is anything that is not Sincaraz (the relationship between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz). Since the start of 2024, there have been over ten times as many works on AO3 tagged with their relationship as the next most popular pairing. While the definition of a rarepair will always be up for debate, especially in a long-running fandom where the most popular players change over time, given that in the past two and a half years, this ship is over an order of magnitude more popular than anything else, this is where the line for the event is being drawn…at least this time around! See here for numbers and more explanation if you’re curious. That being said, you are encouraged to go as rare and as niche as possible!

Prompting opens: Thursday, June 18th
Prompting closes: Friday, June 26th, 11:59:59pm PST
Prompts published: Saturday, June 27th
Posting opens: Sunday, July 12th (last day of Wimbledon)
Posting closes: Sunday, August 2nd (first day of the Canada Open)
