anyway i have a lot of fucking headcanons yet to write but i don’t want to forget them or spam the dash so i’m just making a list of shit to write later at some point.
why Majora’s mask appears the way it does
Majora’s “relationship” with Fierce Deity
Majora’s “relationship” with the Golden Goddesses
how and why Majora’s power fluctuates over the timeline
similarities between Majora’s origin and Skull Kid’s
the symbolism of Skull Kid and his journey
Majora’s mental state
there’s more I’m forgetting I fucking know it uggggggggh
fun fact (read: headcanon): the “Ancient Ones” aka the tribe that is largely responsible for Majora being such a fucking gremlin, weren’t killed by it, although historians believe they were since no traces of them were ever found aside from the warning and legends left behind of their god.
the reason there is no trace of them is because they no longer exist as their original selves. Majora cursed them for their failure and transformed them into monstrous servants. the bosses of MM (Odolwa, Goht, Gyorg and Twinmold) are just a few examples of what they’ve become; mutated, transformed and corrupted, enslaved to Majora’s will, and used as puppets to spread chaos and destruction across the world, even when Majora itself cannot.
also want to note, as I think is already stated in my rules, that the manga is in no way canon or even considered on my blog. pretty sure it’s not even considered canon by the creators either. Majora is not a dragon (although postgame it could very easily take the shape of one if it wished), it did not wear armor or have wishes or dance until it was dead, none of that nonsense.
the closest to an acknowledgement I’ll give to the manga is that it is very likely one of the many (incorrect and false) folktales surrounding Majora in the world. when people don’t understand a thing, or don’t have enough information about it, they’ll concoct their own stories at the fireside to amuse and entertain their peers. I’m sure there are plenty of legends of Majora told by Hyrulians and Terminians alike that are completely made up, often used as scary bedtime stories to scare children and even adults into behaving or doing / not doing a specific thing, despite almost nothing really being known about it.
basically Majora is like TLOZ’s version of the bogeyman or the Devil.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ !!
here’s PART ONE of a vague timeline of Majora’s “life” / existence and the most important events that occurred within it. some minor inspiration taken from the Tower of Babel theory.
CHAOS. Nothing. Emptiness. the Primordial Darkness. whatever you wish to call it, it is the Beginning and the End of all things. before there was Life, before Creation and before even the Goddesses, this is what Majora was before it gained sentience, and before it was split apart and awoken by the Goddesses.
CREATION. the Golden Goddesses give shape to the Emptiness, Light to the Darkness, Order to the Chaos. they steal from it, and create, among other worlds, Hyrule and Termina. this angers Chaos and simultaneously gives it awareness and a mind of its own.
CURIOSITY. although angry and hateful of the Goddesses and their creations, the entity is also curious of them and deigns to meddle in their affairs, hoping to turn them against their creators. some of the ancient tribes choose it over the Goddesses and worship it, christening Chaos with a new name: Majura, meaning ‘Other Truth’.
CONFRONTATION. time passes and with it comes progress. the old ways are forgotten and exchanged for new ones. the practices and knowledge of Majora fade. slighted and infuriated at this perceived betrayal, the eldritch god strikes out at the world, causing massive destruction and threatening to end all of the Goddesses’ work. although unable to defeat the entity alone, the Goddesses answer the prayers of their people and create, from their hearts and will to survive, the Fierce Deity. after a long and difficult battle, the Fierce Deity manages to seal Majora away into a mask that formed from the entity, before also becoming a mask. both fall from the heavens to the world below, scarred but saved from Majora’s wrath.
CURSED. Majora’s mask is discovered by the Ancient Ones, who use it in a variety of hexing and torture rituals, irreparably polluting the god’s mind with insanity and sadism. Majora influences them to build the Stone Temple in its honor, as well as a tower tall enough to reach the Heavens and depose the Golden Goddesses with its power. this earns the Goddesses’ ire and the Ancient Ones were cursed for their hubris. realizing their mistake too late, the tribe could only leave a warning for others before being trapped deep in the temple, their fate sealed along with Majora’s mask.
COMEBACK. even after many millennia, legends of the accursed mask spread in whispers throughout the world, telling of its terrible but great power. listening to rumors and combing through bits of ancient history, the happy mask salesman learns of the mask’s whereabouts, intent on possessing such a rare and powerful artifact for his collection. found within the bloodstained depths of the derelict Stone Temple, where Majora’s corruption turned the once lush landscape into a hellish, inhospitable desert, the merchant retrieves the cursed object. Majora, however, was not content to be the prized mantlepiece for the salesman, and when it sensed Skull Kid nearby, ripe with anger and loneliness, it seized its opportunity for escape and to enact its long-awaited revenge against all of creation ...
survivedempathy:
JAW JUTS UPWARD, chin pointed, blade clutched TIGHTLY in a small fist. Link’s use to being UNDERESTIMATED – that’s not a surprise.
“Who says I’m SPECIAL –” He signs it with one hand, awkward and SLOW because his Terminian is not up to par yet. “– who says I have to be SPECIAL to beat you?”
although it’s unseen thanks to the mask, just the imp’s posture alone demonstrates his impatience and annoyance at link, as far as he’s concerned, refusing to speak.

just super casually lets out an unholy screech from the bottomless pits of hell.
triloved:
heart stopping moment ; his hands cease their motions , the whittling of wood & paint . thieves should never be caught ! ─ but perhaps that is too late to remind himself with now . salesman can only offer meek & near - apologetic smile , head bowed & hands clasped to the mask they carve now .
“ isn ’ t … t - thief a little too harsh ? ”
MADNESS SLITHERS INWARD from all sides, like a circle of serpents in the tall grass following the scent of prey to the rat foolishly believing itself to be safe in the firelight. chaos creeps closer, everywhere yet nowhere --- until suddenly, it pounces. the fire goes out, and for several moments, all light and color is bled out of the world. there is nothing but the eerie silence and a growing white noise like static that clings to the ears, crawls in them, and seeps into the mind.
the fire reignites with a roar unnatural for a campsite, and an impish giggle. on the other side, a vaguely humanoid figure floats in mid-air, in a pose that mimics its last host’s, and a smile of malicious glee spread a little too wide on its mouth.
❛ oh, you’re a f̲̹u͇̜̜n̹̤ͅn̨̦̪y̢̞ one ! ❜ the entity makes a face, something between a snarl and a smile. ❛ only a thief would have found what you did, and only a fool would have taken it. ❜
