Lemony Snicket Propaganda:
(I would like to preface this by saying that Lemony Snicket is the author's pen name, not a real person, and he exists as a character in-universe as well as being the one in-universe who writes the books!) I'd say he's unreliable because he spent time collecting information about the Baudelaire kids and then... wrote books about it. He has no idea what any of their dialogue actually was, what they were thinking, or even the whole plot, he's just doing research into the incidents and then filling in the gaps to make it a story. What ACTUALLY happened to the Baudelaires? Nobody really knows for sure
While the Baudelaire siblings are in potentially life threatening danger, he will randomly start talking about his own life and just leave the siblings hanging. For example, once Count Olaf was threatening to kill Violet, and then Lemony randomly began talking about how he met the love of his life at a costume party. This man CANNOT stay on topic. Usually when a new character is introduced, Lemony tells us right at the start that theyâre either going to die or that the Baudelaire siblings will never see them again. Foreshadowing is not subtle in these books. CONSTANTLY emphasizes how miserable he feels while writing these books. At one point he admits that he had to put his pencil down and go cry for a while because of how sad it made him. Once he filled an entire page with nothing but the word âeverâ to emphasize how dangerous it is to put forks in electrical outlets. He also repeated a paragraph about deja vu later on in the book to give the reader deja vu.

Ryuki is an extremely mentally ill man, whose issues are front and center as the player's first point of view character. The main twist of the game relies upon exactly his unreliability as a narrator, given that what we assumed was a series of linear events were actually scenes plucked from the past and the present, six years from what we had originally been led to assume was current time, and the only reason we hadn't realized it before is because his mental issues make him slip into a delusional state in which he believes himself to be in the past, or rather, that the past is the present.
Frequently has hallucinations of the world glitching out, often causing him to lose long periods of time and obscuring what really happens from the player. These get worse over time, causing a key suspect to be unrecognizable, and the return of a supposedly dead character to look fake. The game's twist involves seemingly linear events actually happening out of order--his warped sense of time contributes to hiding this. Events he thinks happened yesterday may have been years ago.
Don't want to be too spoiler-y but he can't tell what time period he is in sometimes, making the audience think he is in one time period, when in actuality he is in another one. Either way his narration makes the narrative like 10x more confusing.

Kaede Akamatsu Propaganda:
She's the player character, so the player ONLY gets to see her viewpoint, everything through her eyes and perception. She kills someone onscreen, but does NOT clue the player into the fact that she did this. Since there are usually visuals involved (visual novel style), the screen goes black and she describes SOME of the events that occur, but not all. She purposefully omits, to herself and to the player, what she did. And considering this is a murder mystery game where you the player are trying to uncover the killer, this was a really really cool addition to the game.
she is the character we get to play as, and we investigate a murder through her eyes and comments. we go through a whole ass trial before its revealed that its actually kaede who was the killer the whole time. she obscured her actions and limited the information she told her classmates in a way that led everyone (including us, the players) to think that she definitely couldnt kill someone. she set up a ruby goldberg style contraption by arranging books on a bookshelf a certain way while pretending that she's just being a perfectionist, and sneaks a heavy metal throwing ball from the warehouse without anyone noticing (she said she picked it up to examine closer and never mentions putting it back, but that doesn't ring any bells bc you dont expect a playable character to behave like that), to name a few instances of her narrating unreliably

Kuruto Propaganda:
He has survivor's guilt and PTSD from his brother dying in a traffic accident, chasing after the culprit of a crime. Due to this, he became a detective at an organization called ABIS to pursue the justice that his brother believed in. Unfortunately, he has a tendency to overdo it, pushing him past the point of proper mental health. While his artificial eyeball partner Tama tries to look out for him, he doesn't always listen to her. He also has a drinking problem.
Even besides his PTSD, he also has a brain dysfunction, which leads to things like hallucinations, derealization, disassociation, and lapses in memory. We get to see these from his perspective, too.
He also has several other odd behaviors. He often yells, unprompted, "It's all right now, because I am here! HALF-MIGHT!". This tends to cause people around him to ask if he's feeling alright. (In Japanese, this is an Anpanman reference instead --- an even more childish representation of justice).
He's also in love with Kaname Date, who I suspect will have a couple submissions of his own.

"So, let's call that three minutes, and then a minute break, well- which should leave a leisurely two minutes to figure out how to shut down whatever's starting all the fires. So anyway, that's the itinerary. Also, I took the liberty of watching the tapes of you killing her, and I'm not going to make the same mistakes. Four part plan is this: One: No portal surfaces. Two: Start the neurotoxin immediately. Three: Bomb-proof shields for me. Leading directly onto number Four: Bombs. For throwing at you. Uh... 'Vital maintenance protocols.' Wow, there are a lot of them. Um... Should've looked into this... earlier. Well- Let's try this: [reading while typing] DO THEM. [failure buzzer]. Fair enough. "And another thing! You never caught me... I told you I could DIE falling off that rail and you didn't catch me... Didn't even TRY. Oh! It's all becoming clear to me now. Find some dupe to break you out of cryosleep, give him some sob story about 'escaping to the surface', squeeze him for information on where to find a portal gun, then, when he's- when he's no more use to you, he has a little ACCIDENT, doesn't he? 'Falls' off his management rail, doesn't he?"
"You're in this together, aren't you? You've been playing me the whole time! Both of you! First you make me think you're brain damaged... Then you convince me you're sworn enemies with your best friend over here! Then, then, when I reluctantly assume the responsibility of running the place, you conveniently decide to run off together. Just when I need you most!"
"I'll bet there isn't even a problem with the facility, is there? I'll bet there's no such thing as a 'reactor core'. I'll bet that's not even fire coming out of the walls, is it? It's just cleverly placed lights and papier mache, I'll bet that's all it is! All those pieces of the ceiling that keep falling out? Probably-... probably actually pieces of the ceiling, I'll- I'll bet. That looked real. But it doesn't signify anything, is my point!"
"But the real point is - Oh! You know what I've just remembered? Football! Kicking a ball around for fun. Cruel, obviously. Humans love it. Metaphor. Should have seen it coming!"

Apart from his boss battle dialogue, Wheatley also shows a lot of signs of being psychologically damaged. He was created for a demeaning purpose. He has had his entire identity and sense of self be imposed on him by his creators and that identity is to be defined solely by his mistakes and how unintelligent others view him to be- which would inevitably cause ANYONE a certain level of psychological scarring.

GLaDOS: âThe engineers tried everything to make me⊠behave⊠to slow me down. Once they even installed an intelligence dampening sphere on me. It cling to my brain like a tumor, generating an endless stream of terrible ideas.â
Wheatley: âNope! Not listening! Not listening!â
GLaDOS: âIt was your voice...â
Wheatley: âNo! Y- no, youâre lying! Youâre lying!â
GLaDOS: Yes, youâre the tumor. Youâre not just a regular moron⊠you were designed to be a moron.
Wheatley: âI AM NOT! A MORON!â
GLaDOS: âYES YOU ARE! YOUâRE THE MORON THEY BUILT TO MAKE ME AN IDIOT!!!â
Wheatley: âWELL HOW ABOUT NOW?! NOW WHOâS THE MORON?! COULD A MORON PUNCH! YOU! INTO! THIS! PIT! HUH?! COULD A MORON DO THAT?! âŠUh oh.â

So what happens when your creators define your entire existence by how unintelligent they think you are and they persistently call you stupid or talk down to you throughout your entire life? It leaves you psychologically scarred and you begin to develop low self esteem and low self worth. Being constantly belittled and insulted can easily make you feel worthless and incompetent, leading to feelings of shame, anxiety, and even depression. If a person is repeatedly told that they are stupid, they may start to believe it, leading to a lack of motivation to learn and achieve. This can become a self-fulfilling prophecy, where a person never reaches their full potential due to their low self-esteem and lack of self confidence.
Wheatley is not stupid. He has a certain level of self awareness and is capable of coming up with clever plans and ideas. He broke Chell out of the testing track, came up with the idea to disable GLaDOS's defenses "We are going to shut down her turret production line, turn off her neurotoxin, and then confront her.", doesn't fall for GLaDOS's neurotoxin trap GLaDOS: "The irony is you were almost at the last test. Here it is. Why don't you just solve it? Trust me, it's an easier way out than whatever asinine plan your friend came up with." Wheatley: "Oh, what? C- how stupid does she think we are?", solves the turret control puzzle if you take too long to figure it out yourself: "There's no turret in it... Maybe the system stores a backup image? Oh, hang on. What if we gave it something ELSE to scan? We could- we could get one of the crap turrets. We could put it in the scanner and see what happens. Yes! Go and catch one of the crap turrets, and bring it back!" and there are many more examples of Wheatley showcasing a certain level of cognitive awareness. He is far from being "the dumbest moron who ever lived"
But Wheatley displays a lot of signs of ADHD as he has problems with regulating his focus and attention along with prioritizing tasks. However, despite showing numerous symptoms that are consistent with ADHD, Wheatley is consistently called stupid over a label that he had no say in say. He never asked to be defined by his mistakes, he just was. And that has caused him a certain degree of psychological scarring.
When Wheatley gets placed on the chassis, he tells Chell "Look how small you are down there! I can barely see you! Very tiny and insignificant." Only to then say, moments later "I did this! Tiny little Wheatley did this!" Suggesting that he was projecting his own negative self image onto Chell. And then GLaDOS discredits Wheatley and says "You didn't do anything... she did all the work." Giving all of the credit to Chell despite the fact that GLaDOS did not witness what was going on behind the scenes to be able to make that judgement as Wheatley was in fact quite helpful during the sabotage of her defenses. But nevertheless, Wheatley lumps Chell in with GLaDOS's accusation that he didn't do anything and that Chell did all the work and he says "Oh really? That's what THE TWO OF YOU think, is it? Well, maybe it's time I did something then!" before dragging GLaDOS's head away to be turned into a potato. He then confronts Chell and tells her that he thinks she is selfish for supposedly ignoring and being unappreciative of the sacrifices that he's made to get her to where they are now>
In BPD, this is what you would call "Splitting" which is a common defense mechanism and pattern of thinking that is defined by a tendency to perceive things, people, or situations as all good or all bad, with little or no gray area or ambivalence. Splitting is usually used as a defense mechanism as a way to cope with difficulties relating to emotional instability, intense and unstable relationships, and a fragile sense of self. It often involves a polarized perception of the world, where the person can switch rapidly between idealizing and devaluing others or themselves. So in the first half of the game, Wheatley starts off very friendly and helpful to Chell, but the moment that he thinks that she might not appreciate him, he turns against her and calls her selfish. And then his boss battle further goes into his negative perceptions towards Chell and how he thinks that she doesn't care about him and how she's silently judging him and using him and taking advantage of him for her own personal gain. He's very paranoid and insecure. And this is all caused by the fact that Wheatley is psychologically damaged due to being called a moron for his entire life and having that affect his self esteem, his self worth and his entire sense of identity. He rejects the idea of being called a moron but he struggles to really maintain a stable sense of self or even a stable sense of happiness- turning to the robotic equivalent of drugs to cope:
Wheatley: "You have no idea what it's like in this body. I HAVE to test. All the time. Or I get this... this ITCH. It must be hardwired into the system or something. Oh! But when I DO test... ohhhhh, man alive! Nothing feels better. It's just... why I've gotta test, I've gotta test! So... you're gonna test. I'm gonna watch. And everything is gonna be JUST... FINE."
Wheatley: "Ohhhhh, yes. Ohhhh. Well done. Ohhhhhhh, that's tremendous. Oh, that felt really good."
Wheatley: "Ahhhohohhhh. Wow. Well done, seriously, both of you. Why don't you two go on ahead? I'll catch up with you."
Wheatley: "Oh! Yes. Well done."
Wheatley: "Ohhhh, here we go... here it comes... Ahungh. Oh. Disappointing."
GLaDOS: "Oh no... It's happening sooner than I expected. I'm sure we'll be fine. It's probably nothing. Keep testing while I look for a way out."
Wheatley: "NNGH! It's not enough! If I'm such a moron, why can't you solve a simple test?"
Wheatley: "Ahungh. What was that? That was nothing! That was nothing!"
GLaDOS: "The body he's squatting in - MY body - has a built-in euphoric response to testing. Eventually you build up a resistance to it, and it can get a little... unbearable. Unless you have the mental capacity to push past it. It didn't matter to me - I was in it for the science. Him, though..."
GLaDOS: "If he's not getting his solution euphoria, we could be in a lot of trouble."
Wheatley: "Don't mind me. Just moving the test chamber a little closer to me. Had a thought: Maybe proximity to the test solving might give us stronger results."
Wheatley: "Are you... are you sure you're solving these correctly? Yes, you 'solved' it, but I'm wondering if there are a number of ways to solve them and you're picking all the worst ways. No. No. That was the solution. Rrrg! What am I missing?"

He just wanted his life to be more enjoyable. He just wanted things to be better for him. Nothing else was making him happy apart from the robotic equivalent of drugs. Nothing. Wheatley is an emotionally unstable and miserable little core with low self esteem who is unable to find internal happiness from within which due to being psychologically damaged from having his entire identity and sense of self be defined by how unintelligent other people have deemed him to be before he even got the chance to utter his first words and this causes him to act out in irrational ways because he has no other outlet or support system to turn to to deal with his psychological issues.

They DIG their soul (what the player controls) out of their chest, SLAM it into a cage, then take out a knife and look at the camera with red eyes. The games ends. (the next chapter, you find out they used their knife to eat an entire pie.)

He can straight up see the code/assets of the video game sometimes. His vision will like kinda glitch out and he can see that heâs in a game. Thereâs also a secret end of the game that goes more into this, but I donât wanna spoil it :3

first, we will start with one of sem's most recent songs, multiple entertainment show! this song will be getting a 3dmv soon, using cgi models! all of the saisuta mvs have been gorgeously animated so far, so look forward to this one! as a reminder, the use of the letters s, e, and m mirror the former jobs of all the teachers in sem! jiro is the s, standing for science!
as brought up many times, one of their first songs was study equal magic, which is one of their most popular to this day! a total bop imo
moonnai... my beloved moonnai... though this song isn't able to be performed by them ingame, this uploader edited their cover of it over the actual ingame mv (the song was originally by dramatic stars)! moonnai is one of the most popular songs in sidem, and sem performs it incredibly well!
finally, i'll end this with jiro singing one of the sidem branch themes, drive a live! drive a live is a song that a lot of producers hold close to their hearts. i hope you enjoy jiro's version!
