With an expiration date etched into one arm, he’s all too aware of his own mortality. Fear doesn’t matter all too much in the end when you know you’re GOING TO DIE.

“People are plenty afraid of things.” dorian’s fears were a bit more... complex, ones he’d rather not talk about. despite how much he hated fearing something, at one point or another he’d have to simply admit it.

“I don’t like thinking about it either, quite frankly.” he mentions it as if it holds no relevance. “Sadly, we can’t do too much about our fears and such things, except trying to face them head-on.” was dorian brave? yes. but it’s not like he wanted to face his fears to begin with, and in this city? he really couldn’t --- he was stuck whether he liked it or not.

All too prominent frown lines etch themselves upon the corners of eyes and lips, CARVED as if by a knife. Blue eyes are heavy, GLACIAL hues glowering, and his lips do pout, chapped bottom jutting out, teeth sinking into the worn skin. He feels the urge to partake in alcohol, yet by the grace of the Maker, his hand remains steady.

❝Ah — n-no.❞ Something in him knows that Dorian would find out, and yet he keeps up his PRETENSES, faked words held so as not to make himself out to be an unnecessary burden. Perhaps selfishly he wonders if Dorian could even help him in the end. ❝I am … I am FINE —-❞

he almost mirrors the other’s moves, crossing his arms over his chest in not a sign of annoyance, but of... concern. a soft hazel gaze clashes against the glacial eyes of the man, dorian can only gaze as he wonders what to do. he can read people quite well, a bit of a talent, and he notices that loghain isn’t in the best mood. he’s concerned about loghain, and no longer concern as an ally, but he’s concerned as a friend --- dorian wants to at least cheer him up.

“Ah...” he loses his words, for the first time in a while --- the least he wants to be is overwhelming and condescending, so he chooses his words carefully. “I... I don’t mean to pry, Loghain. But...” his words are sincere, different from his usual self, he’s worried. “I’m always here to listen, if there’s anything that troubles you, I’m here.” he hopes he doesn’t sound too cheesy.

Brows knit, and he scowls at the offending man, darkened arrow notched and bow at the ready. (His eyesight was terrible for aiming arrows. It hadn’t stopped him so far.)

“Oh? Avoiding the dark are we?” He spits back, though his grin is laced with anger than pleasure, “this relaxed attitude is hardly productive.”

“I do think the dark as... A bit edgy, and it quite frankly is!” this was his job back home, destroying the darkspawn and bad guys with not exactly the power of love and friendship --- but it played a big part of it. he would’ve felt if he was with the inquisitor and its members but it’ll have to do.

“Darkness is all sad and gloomy.” he’s quite aware logic won’t work as well, after all --- they were clashing forces, opposites, yet dorian was always for diplomacy. “I’ll avoid it as much as I possibly can, and so should you. Would you rather be stuck in sadness?” dorian sometimes decided to stay in the dark, he spoke from experience. noticing the other aiming his arrows, dorian gets out his wand, preparing himself for dodging or countering.

He’s seen this man every now and then in the city, but never really thought too hard on striking up a conversation. Based on just looks alone, he could be one of those rare situations where he actually has the urge to befriend someone for the sake of friendship rather than convenience and potential future use.

Though, right now, in the midst of cry-baby monster things and everyone outshining him like jerks, it seems to be a not-so-great time to give it a try. Talking and fighting rarely worked out well.

Does that stop him? Nope.

Does that save him from embarrassing himself because conversations where he has nothing to gain or nothing to try to gain is extremely difficult? NOPE.

“ HEY THERE… M–My dude. Funny situation we’re all in. Dresses and… Crying baby things… Anyways, everyone’s outfits here look positively horrid except for mine, of course. I don’t suppose you got a sparkly mess–er–dress as well, mm? WANT TO SEE MINE-?! ”

to say that he hasn’t seen this person around the city would be a lie, they did use a blinding gold armor. a interesting fashion choice he would use if he had the chance. after dorian left his home, he exchanged riches and luxury to have his own identity, a choice he would never regret despite the many consequences. the gold armor reminds him of tevinter, in a nostalgic way.

the city was in a state similar to thedas, plagued with monsters and dark creatures -- it was familiar ground he could stand on, but he was far more weaker than he used to be, a shame. dorian was vigilant of any sight of monsters on the streets in case he could help. upon seeing the person, he relaxed, and gave a smile.

dorian can notice the slight nervousness of his tone, dorian is quite keenly aware of his looks, but he wasn’t scary, was he? as the thought runs across his mind, he tries his best to leave a good and dignified first impression.

“While it is a dire situation, it’s not that bad --- It could be much worse.” they couldn’t exactly die, dorian wasn’t exactly happy all the time regardless of the tiny monsters, and he gets to see good fashion. “While I do have my own... costume, I doubt it is good as yours, I wouldn’t mind seeing it!” dorian quite liked his outfit, he was a bit embarrassed, but he likes it nonetheless. seeing what lies behind a mask always proved to be quite intriguing, whatever the circumstances might be.

Making strangers happy is a lot easier than people he knows. If he does convert Dorian over to the light, there’s a chance they’l turn back later. Then he’d need to interfere all over again.

“Of course, if I help you the emotions will be exaggerated. Maker knows how embarrassing this all is for the Love Warden. I hope everyone will still take me seriously after.”

“Love warden?” he repeats with amusement, it’s quite fun to see daylen in this state, dorian was a dark magical girl --- but hs sadness is something he experienced during almost his whole life in thedas, so it doesn’t hit him as hard.

“That’s... Quite noble, I suppose. The name fits you like a ring.” the darkness in his voice is clear, although he’s having quite the time, being a magical girl or not, this was certainly fun, defeating monsters and cheering up people doesn’t sound too bad.

“As long as I don’t hop around laughing like a madman, I won’t mind! Everyone needs to be happy once in a while.” dorian would be careful not to change back again, he wasn’t going to be so careless. “...I think it’s going to be quite hard, but I’m sure they will take you seriously... At some point.” he’s joking, he respects daylen even if he won’t say it, odd fashion choices or not.

“This almost reminds me of Thedas.” things have seemed to calm a bit around the city, the monsters didn’t seem to be swarming people, but he predicted this would soon change. although, he managed to meet loghain while he was resting from his magical escapades.

“But without the frilly dresses and bloodthirsty monsters, it’s not so bad! It could be worse, and I don’t mind the outfits.” when it comes down to it prefers much to feel sadness than pain, he fet sadness almost constantly, memories, words and gestures he got too used to. he suddenly gets an idea, and loghain was probably the best person to ask. “Call it curiosity, but does this happen often? This city just seems to be full of surprises.”
