At the moment (2026.03.13), almost nothing is known about Zeno. There is still no additional info or DLC for re9. Because of that, I will take the liberty of speculating about who he might be and why he looks so much like Wesker.
First, lets state the obvious: Zeno's facial features resemble Wesker's in many ways, but you can still see his own traits through that resemblance (for example, the protruding ears). This directly suggests that he is not a clone like Carla Radames, because a clone is an ideal copy, at least visually.
In Carla's case, a clone can keep its previous personality if the process was not simple cloning but a restructuring of DNA and the body to match a specific person.
Because of that, describing Zeno requires breaking the topic into several chapters. Lets begin.
Chapter 1. Is Zeno a clone?
He is not a Wesker clone. Something completely different happened to him, and it is closely connected to the cloning of Chris. You can see this if you compare their eyes. They look similar and were clearly created under similar conditions.
We also still know nothing about Chris's clones. What process created them? Some kind of new project?
But Zeno's appearance is not a perfect copy of Wesker, unlike Chris's clones, which perfectly replicate Redfield's face. That means the "cloning" process was modified. This also suggests that Zeno was not born from someone else's DNA. Instead, he is a person whose original DNA was altered.
Another sign that Zeno is a different individual is his habit of smoking. Wesker never smoked and most likely disapproved of harmful habits. To understand that Zeno and Wesker are different people, you only need to look carefully at their style. Lets start with the hair.
Wesker's hairstyle is not an expression of fashion. He simply slicks his short hair back for convenience. On top of that, this hairstyle is neutral. It helps him avoid attracting attention and keeps a formal appearance at all times, whether during business negotiations or similar situations.
Zeno's hairstyle is style for the sake of style. It is bold self-expression. His fashionable haircut is not about practicality but about making his image look expensive and matching his wealth.
Now lets look at clothing.
Wesker's clothing is also usually simple and purely functional. Either it is tactical gear (Code: Veronica), or a specially designed carbon fiber combat suit (re5).
Zeno's clothing is once again fashion for the sake of fashion. Wealth on display. He has a chain with rhinestones, an earring, and a very expensive white suit that clearly was not designed for working in the shadows.
Zeno's entire image screams "look how rich I am", while Wesker's image quietly says "I wear this because it is useful, not to show off".
Their visual identities communicate completely different things. And this is the main argument for why Zeno is not Wesker. Zeno clearly appears to be a different person with his own unknown past, his own tastes, and his own way of expressing himself.
But then the questions appear... Who is he? Why does he look so much like Wesker? And why would he want that?
The answer may lie in the next chapter.
Chapter 2. Why did Zeno change his body?
Zeno is a wealthy man who funded Victor Gideon's ideas, Umbrella projects after Spencer's death, and was also one of the important figures within The Connections. Because of his financial involvement, he had access to a lot of info. It is very likely that he knew about Albert Wesker, and he may have even met him personally in the past.
Now imagine this situation: a rich man, who believes money can buy anything, decides that he wants Wesker's power. He has no combat skills. He is an ordinary mortal. With that kind of wealth, he probably felt vulnerable. And Wesker was the most famous of Spencer's successful projects. Zeno wanted to become the same kind of being.
But that is impossible. Wesker's immunity was unique, it allowed him to mutate and gain power. The virus Wesker injected into himself was specially developed and called Prototype.
Zeno's situation was different. There was no information about Prototype available to him, and he did not have Wesker's immunity. Becoming like Wesker without dying was impossible. So a different plan was created - a way to obtain Wesker's power through another method.
That method turned out to be the restructuring of his own body using some kind of virus. In other words, a controlled mutation. But the result was still imperfect, even with the new DNA, the virus inside Zeno slowly began to drain his life. Because of this, black spots appeared on his body, similar to those seen on Leon and Sherry. The spots continued to grow and poison his body even more whenever he used Wesker's abilities. Because of that, Zeno relied on the weapon "Redemption", capable of firing extremely powerful shots. He could not risk using his "Wesker power", since doing so pushed him closer to death.
He hoped that Elpis, which he believed to be a new virus, would stabilize his body and finally make him strong like he always wanted. But Elpis simply removed the virus from his body entirely, turning him back into an ordinary human. Just an imitation of Wesker, which is what he always was. Since his DNA had been irreversibly altered, he would have remained permanently similar to the man whose power he tried to steal.
Zeno's eyes are also different from Wesker's because this mutation came from different virus. Zeno's eyes glow, but his pupil is round and his sclera is black. Wesker's eyes have a narrow pupil and glow intensely during strong emotions.
Their hair color is also different. Wesker is a natural blond, while Zeno's hair is completely white.
White hair is unnatural and may be the result of his "mutation into Wesker", or from processes similar to the ones that caused Jill Valentine's hair to turn white in re5.
Chapter 3. Zeno's memories
If you look closely at how Zeno fights Leon, it becomes clear that he does not possess Wesker's combat skills or experience. Albert was a master of martial arts and knew many techniques, including styles influenced by eastern disciplines.
Wesker's success was not only about mutation and power, it was also about his ability to control that power. Every movement he makes in combat is perfectly practiced, he easily parries bullets and melee attacks because he is a professional.
Zeno cannot fight like that. He knows some basic techniques, but he cannot combine them with his abilities. First and foremost, he is not a fighter. He is a wealthy man who wanted power. However, there are a few moments that suggest that during the "mutation into Wesker", some aspects of Albert's personality may have entered Zeno's mind (the alternative explanation would be that Zeno was a "huge Wesker fan" who studied him closely, but that seems unlikely)
During the fight with Leon, despite his poor combat skills, Zeno uses an attack that literally repeats the "Thrust Punch" Wesker had in re4og and the "Cobra strike" used in re5. This move cannot be performed by accident in such a precise stance, perfectly copying Wesker, almost as if it was pulled directly from memory.
Zeno's moments of weakness also mirror Wesker's moments of weakness in re5. These unconscious gestures, reactions, and emotions almost feel like Albert himself briefly surfaced from somewhere deep inside his mind.
Chapter 4. DNA, blood, memories
If this theory is correct and Zeno really contains some small percentage of Wesker's memories or consciousness, then those fragments appear unconsciously. And the percentage is clearly very small.
This leads us to something the game keeps repeating - consciousness transfer. Now in the RE universe human memory is stored in blood. That means that in order to obtain even a small fraction of Wesker's memories, along with his DNA, Zeno would have needed a constant source of blood. Even in re6, when Jake and Sherry's blood needed to be studied, they were kidnapped and held in China for many months. You cannot repeatedly extract DNA and blood without having the original host nearby.
This suggests only one possibility...
Wesker must be alive, unconscious somewhere in an unknown location, and experiments are being conducted using his blood.
Chapter 5. Zeno's personality
This is my favorite part, because Zeno is actually a very funny character.
He literally embodies the phrase "rich investor with no real competence". He does not understand scientific matters and simply repeats what Victor tells him. Zeno did not even bother to check the dates in the records "about Grace" in his monitor. Instead, he naively tried to convince her that she was some kind of "original".
Chloe's data is listed as 1990, and she looks about seven years old. That means she was born around 1983. If Grace were truly the "original", she would have been over forty years old by 2026, because the experiments related to "transferring Spencer's memory" have been happening for a very long time.
If Zeno had simply checked the dates properly, he would have immediately seen the inconsistency, he would have realized that Victor was lying to him. The girl standing in front of him is clearly under thirty. But Zeno is a naive silly guy. He does not understand the processes, but he funds them. And that is exactly what makes him both funny and tragic.
He wanted safety, which is why he pursued Wesker's power. Then he wanted to stabilize his new body in order to survive. He never even considered the possibility that he was being deceived.
And in the end, he died after becoming an ordinary human once again. This creates a strange philosophical paradox: "huge Wesker fan" is someone who completely fails to understand why Wesker became what he became. The real Wesker never tried to become someone else, he always remained himself, his power came from the belief that he was already above everyone else.
He shows what Wesker was not. And this makes the situation very interesting...
A quick sketch with the new Resident Evil ))
I liked the theory that Zeno smokes so much because he's constantly stressed (judging by his emotionality in the game, Wesker's self-control has clearly been transferred to him at about 0%).
