Share your experience with the pandemic healing ritual
Name: Vanessa Cardona
My experience with my healing ritual was great! I Haven't drawn or painted in a very long time. So, getting a chance to do that again was fun and calming. During this pandemic fun and tranquility is very much needed for me (and for everyone [no stress!]). Not only that but it gave me a reason to get ready and wear different clothing. In addition, I had to wear specific clothing for my ritual and I was able to find clothes that I forgot it had. So, when I found them I was happy because now I have more clothes to wear and because I still love that clothing!

v My Art Ritual: Drawing/Painting
v City: Watts Los Angeles
Action
v Drawing with markers on the front and painting on the back
Intention
v is to practice making a drawing/painting on Mylar paper which is plastic see through paper. I have never used this type of paper, so I wanted to challenge myself on using both sides of the paper instead of one side like most art. It helps me improve on getting out of my comfort zone since I have always preferred some materials over others.
Location
v My garage because I like to listen to music and staying fresh since it was a hot day.
Materials
v Acrylic paint, Colored Markers and napkins
Textile
v I used a piece of cloth to wipe off any marker mistakes I made, and I choose to wear a romper because it was a hot day and I felt comfortable and fresh.
To start off I would like to say that it didn't come out as I envisioned my yellow…
The action I performed in my room was painting. Today, I admired the sun which I normally don’t. In fact I hate it, I hate summer. But, today was different. Surprisingly I appreciated the sun since I don’t see it everyday. At least not how I used to see it everyday. So, I decided to paint my reflection of yellow because I felt yellow and I owe it to the sun. The colors I used were titanium white, Medium Yellow, Deep yellow, a bit of orange, and a bit of burnt umber to make a gold color. I mixed them to create the different shades of yellow hues. I used a medium sized brush today. In addition, I wore my Yellow pj’s, which were very comfortable! For my ritual I need to wear the color I feel, use only the color I feel to draw/paint, and the drawing/painting has to mirror my feelings! As you can see I painted the sun and I appreciated it and it made me happy as well. I got my brushes and decided to draw my “yellow sunny-ness”but it turned out awful. :’)

a. share your experience with the pandemic healing ritual
My Response:
I would say my experience with this pandemic healing ritual was a positive one. I enjoyed taking some time to make something with a more meaningful purpose rather then just making something to wear. I also enjoyed thinking more about the process and how it’s being made. I chose crocheting and I found that during the hour of my ritual is was very easy to get lost in my work and kind of forget what’s going on around me and the pandemic. It brought me peace and tranquility to my day and I would even say put me a better mood when I finished my ritual.
Although we are living in times of uncertainty and fear, through our ritual healing assignment I decided to focus on the positivity of this whole situation. Before COVID-19, I felt like I was living a fast pace life. It was always work, school , my social life and I never really had time for myself. My ritual consisted of doing acts of self love, I did things that made me feel happy, motivated and inspired. I feel like we should take this time to focus and care for ourselves and do things that make us happy. These actions can be from taking a nap during the day, drinking a glass of wine, doing your makeup, really anything that makes you happy.
Such as doing things that

The intention of my ritual continuing to add to my idea scrapbook for my clothing brand, Working on my art skills, and also I wanted to exclude my mind from any distractions.
For this drawing I wanted to create a piece that symbolized the long friendship I have with my best friends. I've known them for the longest time so I wanted to dedicate a design for a shirt to honor them for being there in my journey and overall goals. All that is seen symbolizes our inside jokes as well our likings that I know them best for. It's also a nod to my friends wanting to get matching tattoos but never committing to getting one.

This artwork is for my love for conspiracy theories and mythology. Growing up my brother and our neighbors we would always get together and wait till it got dark to talk about mythical creatures such as big foot, Leprechaun, Loch Ness Monster, etc. But they would always make it scary just to spook me as always so I wanted to make a call back to those memories I have with my brother and neighbors. So, I drew my own take of the myth of the Thunderbird, it was a bird who was huge and had the power of thunder so they say. This one I remember to heart and we would always talk about when we would learn new things about mythical beings. I definitely want to have a shirt that represents the love I have for myths and conspiracy.

For this drawing, I wanted to make piece that represents what we are going through in our society with wearing gloves, mask and being distant. So, I wanted to draw something that symbolizes that and I would later redraw. Making a call back to this tragic time. Moreover, I wanted to have a shirt that is a motivational shirt or a memoir that references that if we ever go through a tragic time like this one that we shouldn't worry and we know that together we can overcome as we will for COVID-19.

For this piece I wanted to draw my logo I created in high school. However, I made that one in microsoft paint it wasn't perfect it was blurry. But I never taken the time to draw it on paper, so I wanted to see I could actually draw it. So for when if I needed to make a quick mock-up of a shirt that has my logo I could draw it as a reference for the final product. The logo represents the meaning of my brand idea which is secret meanings/messages hence SM but also the secret message is also it represents my name STEVE MAJANO.

Titles of ritual: one new outfit a day
Description: some background on myself to clarify why this is a ritual for me, I am an online vintage seller who is also a fashion major at CSULA. My ritual is creating a new outfit every Monday and Wednesday. What I do with this outfit is photograph it and then upload it to my shop. This ritual will benefit me in several ways:
- It will not allow me to lack creativity
- It will make the fashionista inside of me continue to think outside the box and express herself through outfits
- It will look aesthetically attractive on my shop and therefore please the eyes of my customers
- It will inspire my customers on how to wear the garment that’s for sale
The location of my ritual is always in my bedroom. The materials used with it vary. Today I used:
- the garments I put together to create an outfit
- A stand to hold my phone when I have it on self timer
-my phone to take the photo
-a clean background
Inspiration: for the last day of my ritual I wanted to bring in some colors that make my heart happy - PASTELS! I absolutely adore pastels. I also especially love classic pieces such as this blazer. You can easily dress it up or dress it down and I love how versatile it can be.
