hi! the answer is probably just “practice more” 😭 but do u have any tips for adapting reference pics for fan art? i feel stuck drawing refs exactly how they are and not very confident making them into another guy. i rly admire your art!

i'm in no position to give out advice tbh i struggle with likenesses a lot too! i guess the answer IS 'practice more' and to draw the guys you want to draw until you figure out how to draw them (or at least your version of them). but i guess what i can say is try to use the reference for the thing you actually want to reference? like, use the reference just for the pose and not for the face. or just for the face and not for the pose. if that makes sense? i don't know. here's a video of me using a reference for a quick doodle (sped up 8x) - i'm not sure whether there's a lesson in there, but maybe it's interesting at least

i don't have to "cope with" it same way i don't have to cope with listening to the beatles. i don't want to sound callous but that's the simple truth. i don't feel guilty about it. so i don't think i can particularly help you with your struggle but it may be that this art blog is just not the place for it.
