Captain

Hello, my name is Pieter-Jan Van Hove, I’m the captain in charge of the ship. My responsibilities are wade-ranging in expertise and include navigation, operation of the ship’s equipment, business functions and the assignment and monitoring of duties performed by all crew members.

Our tour includes unique aspects of our historic harbor. Board the our boat, called the Savannah Sea Queen, for a relaxing and enjoyable cruise. Also enjoy our overview or our cocktails, either before or after your tour. It’s a winning combination!

I’m the bartender, as a bartender I’m responsible for the drinks of the customers. I prepare alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and I’m specialized in all kind of cockails.

Not everything is spicy

Did you know that not everything is spicy?

Many tourists come to the Land of Smiles bracing their taste buds for the onslaught of spicy food headed their way. While many Thai dishes are incredibly spicy, there are plenty of dishes that aren’t. This does not make the dish any less “Thai” or delicious, it simply means it is not spicy.

Vodka

Vodka is the most popular liquor for cocktails. The name vodka comes from the Slavic word voda, meaning water. It is a versatile spirit, included in many classic cocktails like a Martini, Moscow Mule, and a Screwdriver.

Yet, despite the fact that most everyone has tried vodka and used it in many cocktails, there are a lot of things we don’t know about it.

Here are six facts about vodka you never knew:

A teaspoon of sugar with a few drops of vodka helps keep flowers fresher longer.

Vodka is lighter than water. 1 liter of water weights 1,000 grams, while 1 liter of vodka weighs 953 grams.

The most expensive vodka in the world, Billionaire Vodka, costs $3.75 million a bottle. It’s filtered though ice, Nordic birch charcoal and sand made from crushed diamonds and gems.

Vodka soothes a jellyfish sting. It helps disinfect the wound and alleviate some of the pain.

Ripping off a Band-Aid is a lot easier when it is soaked in vodka! The vodka helps dissolve the adhesive.

We haven’t tried this ourselves, but adding vodka to your shampoo is supposed to make your hair healthier and shinier.

Waiter

I’m the one who introduces the guests into the Thai culture. Together with my colleague Seppe, I welcome the guests in our beautiful restaurant and provide them a place with a really nice view. The goal as a waiter is to make as many guests happy with the visit to our restaurant. The service is one of the most important things in a restaurant. When the guests have decided what they want to drink, I tell them something about our delicious dishes. I tell the kitchen which dishes must be prepared. A restaurant runs good just as there is a good rapport between the kitchen and waiters. When the waiters give the customers the Thai food, it’s important to mention the main - ingredients.

Sous- chef

I’m a chef who is the second in command in a kitchen: I’m ranked next after the head chef. I have many responsibilities because I must plan and direct how the food is presented on the plate, keep the kitchen staff in order, train new chefs, create the work schedule, and make sure all the food that goes to customers is of the best quality to make customers happy. I am in charge of making sure all kitchen equipment is in working order. I am also responsible for inventory, product and supply rotation, and menu tasting. I also need to be responsive and have the ability to improvise when a problem arises while the restaurant is busy.

Chinese Influence

Did you know there’s a Chinese influence on Thai food?

Thai food is certainly unique, but it did not get this way on its own. Some 2,000 years ago, many Chinese immigrants made their way to Thailand, and they brought their cuisine with them. From soy sauce to rice, the staple of the Thai diet originated in China. Of course, Thai people put their own spin on most of these dishes and traditions, however, those devouring a Thai meal might want to thank the Chinese for the role they played whatever meal they’re eating.

Use a spoon to eat

Did you know?

Normally we would not include an etiquette eating tip on a list about Thai food. That being said, it is important to note that Thai people do not necessarily use a fork when devouring some of the country’s most noteworthy meals. Instead, Thai people will use a fork to push food into a spoon. Chopsticks are used only for noodles.

Did you know that people who eat this Thai dish often use ice cream, yoghurt or just cream to cool down the heat? Because this is a dish with very hot curry sauce and as you can see they also use peppers in this dish to even up the heat, so beaware when you eat this. You should always have some cream when you are going to try this delicious dish.

Job:

My job in the restaurant is to let the people know that they are welcome on our ship/restaurant by hosting them when they are coming on board. I am also a waiter so I go and ask the people what they want to eat or drink and of course I am also the one who give them the food and tell them a bit about the origin of the food so the people know what they are going to eat.
