Tahlia Torres. 32. Soldier. A no nonsense hardass with a chip on her shoulder, Thalia is not the one you want to cross. There's a good heart, and a loyal friend under the worst of her exterior.
( adria arjona, 32, cis woman, she/her ) — Look who it is! If you take a look at our database, you’ll find that THALIA TORRES is a FOOT SOLDIER that works in SECTOR 6. According to the file, they’re a mutant with the power of BONE MANIPULATION. That must be why they’re AMBITIOUS and DIFFICULT. If you ask me, they remind me of sweaty hand wraps, blood stains on a white tank top, the cover of shadows They are affiliated with THE DAMNED.
how do they feel about living in sol city? have they always lived there or did they travel from another settlement?
Thalia is from Sol City from the very beginning. Her family, while mutants, were generally well liked. But, even when that turned, there was nowhere to go but Sol City, travel cost money, escape was expensive. It feels like a cross to bear to Thalia, and it's even heavier now.
do they trust the council’s leadership? why or why not?
Absolutely fucking not! They go against everything she's been lead to believe as part of the Damned. And, she knows first hand just how awful and dangerous the world is now. Her ultimate goal is for a safer better world for mutants. However that needs to happen is fine with her.
if they chose their sector and profession, why did they make that choice? if they didn’t, why not? were they happy with their assignment or not?
They did not! Though, it's an oddly useful position, so she can't be too mad about it.
what’s one object that they always keep on their person?
Her Father's broken watch. It hasn't ticked a second away in about ten years, but it's a piece that she gets to hold close without catching anyone's attention.
(mutant only section)
what is your character’s ability (or abilities)? Bone Manipulation
are they gen i or gen ii? Gen ii
what can your character do? what are their strengths? Beyond the ability to manipulate and control an individual by taking control of their skeleton, Thalia can also break bones without touch, and generate prehensile bones on her own body (mostly in the form of spikes).
what can’t they do? what are their weaknesses? The ability to create prehensile bone spikes causes a significant amount of pain as it does tear the skin, and takes time to heal. She also is not able to combat those with the ability of boneless body, and is generally hot headed and temperamental. It makes it difficult for her to properly control her powers sometimes.
is there anything else you’d like to specify about them? Don't not cross her.
"our timeline is infinite. we'll strike when the pieces fall in the right places. i'm aiming for this year, but we'll have to see how our progress unfolds. the last thing i want to do is spoil our chances by attacking too early..." but allowing the city's crimes to continue is a factor as well. even without goodwill in his heart ( and there is a shred left as it is ) there's nothing good in allowing their so-called research to take hold. it had weakened them once and would again, so long as they didn't wrest that advancement out from under them. "how long would it take you to sabotage the systems we need?"
"I think we can make this year a reality." If there really were ongoing experiments happening on mutants that needed to be spared, they certainly couldn't waste time. But, they did need all the pieces in the right place in order to achieve their goal. There was the factor of destroying the security system. The destruction couldn't be that hard. Certainly cutting a few wires in the control room would do the trick. It was getting in that would be where the work lies. "I can do the damage quickly. I'll just need to make sure I have the right clearance to get in where we need. But, depending on where I need to get in, that shouldn't be difficult."
"My lips are sealed." Not that Vera could hear Thalia's thought (telepathy mode: unactivated!), but the woman sure seemed well-liked! Hot... uh, hot... But even if she weren't hot, she was the best choice there! "Yeah, so, cocaine's crazy uncle who keeps bringing younger and younger and younger 'girlfriends' to family functions -- up until he's 65 and she's 18 -- is the goal here." And Vera thought that sounded damn fun, right?
"I don't know why that makes so much sense." It sounded like it was just concentrated chaos, mainly, but that could be fun. Especially if it actually worked. Vera, though, was the kind of person who knew what she was doing. It probably would, even if it took a couple of tries. "Alright, color me flattered that you're picking me to be your test dummy. I'll play."
"So that's a 'yes,' then." No question about it, it was an obvious yes! As useful as Thalia's mutation was, Vera could never say she was jealous of it. Being called on for all bone problems? Bone Daddy so wishes that were him. Okay, finished breaking the fourth wall. Man, thank god she was only good for all that science shit everyone else hated! And that May hates too, but she tortures herself. "Well, when you put it like that... In a word, yes." Sorry, Thalia! But she is your favorite person! "It is designed for entertainment purposes, though."
"It's a soft yes." If only because Tenzin and Joey would be horribly disappointed if it made it back to them that Thalia had told Vera she was unequivocally her favorite. When did she get popular? Her ears perk up a little hearing this drug is at least for entertainment purposes. Better than being a test dummy for a drug they were weaponizing. "What kind of entertainment does the drug deliver? Or is that for me to find out?"
gesturing for thalia to take a seat, santiago doesn't waste time with mincing words. "we're going to be digging up and destroying a good portion of the city. i've thought long and hard about it, and there's just no other way it c an be done. they're experimenting on us down there and i know it." he shakes his head, a fist clenched on the table. "i need you to help me sabotage their security systems."
It wouldn't surprise her that the goddamn city was treating mutants like lab rats. Nothing surprised her when it came to humans anymore. Blowing a part of that world a mile high would be the best thing that they could do. But, there's still questions that come to mind immediately. "So what exactly is our timeline? How soon is this going to happen?" There were other questions of clearance, and how to actually achieve disabling the security system, but that would come when she knew how much time she really had to get it done.
"I better be your favorite fuckin' person here, Thalia, because good news for you: I don't have bones!" There were so many upsides to being an alien! Never would she need bones to heal! Of course, that didn't mean other people didn't have bones that might need some professional breaking... but she wasn't there for that! "So I've got this new 'compound' I've been messing around with, yeah? -- And I need someone with more, eh, human-adjacent anatomy to try it out." When mulling over the members of the Damned... Thalia seemed the closest to human that they had -- no 'odd' physiology going on. "It's not exactly being sanctioned by the city, ipso facto I can't borrow their lab rats."
"I mean, it doesn't hurt." She was much more of a breaker than she was a mender, but when duty calls you answer! It was nice to have a few people that would never need her powers for anything other than revenge on others. Although, she almost wishes it was bone related as Vera lays out her ask. "So... you want me to... be a lab rat?" Granted, with only her manipulation power, she was an ideal candidate if they needed something that remotely modeled human DNA. "You're gonna have to give me more to work with if you want me to say yes."
"i know you too well to think you'd rely on anyone else, but that doesn't mean you can't accept the help every now and again. there's strength in numbers, remember that." reaching out to offer a gentle touch on her shoulder, he continues, "come find me after you've had your rest, help or not. we'll discuss the details in the war room."
"I'll do my best." Leave it to Santi to impart his wisdom on her. She does as she's told, resting as best she can with the anticipation hanging over her head. But it's enough to satisfy, and she's back with Santiago the first chance she gets. "Divulge what you will," Thalia says, a little too eager.
"I've been in charge for a while. Maybe you just haven't been paying attention." Though he did not hold a position of political power it was him that decided who gained entry into the city. What jobs they would be best suited to. Perhaps this woman needed a reassignment. "As it stands, I'm thinking you might need a change." A smirk curled up the corner of his mouth, "There is no place for soldiers who can't do the most basic of tasks." His smirk grew as she continued to talk, hand reaching out to encircle her wrist, stopping her movements. "Do you have defensive skills? Or have you just grown too reliant on your power?"
"I meet the qualifications necessary to hold this post. You can't threaten my job because you feel like it." In any other reality, Thalia would be more than open to reassignment, if only in the hopes she could shake off the Government shackles. But, her position was valuable to the Damned, and she couldn't just give up her post because someone decided to pick on her running form. "You wanna look at my record, you'll find I'm plenty satisfactory with or without record mile times." Keeping a clean file was integral to staying off the radar. "I have defensive skills," Thalia snaps. "I've been training them long before I was old enough to be a soldier. Once again, I am perfectly capable of doing my job."
"Missed me, then?" she asks, with a smirk. Tenzin scoffs at Thalia's answer, rolling her eyes. "Bhasundara can smell him all over you." At the mention of her name, the snake head on the end of her tail pops up comically over Tenzin's shoulder, giving Thalia a friendly hiss in greeting. "Can't lie to a Chimera. We know everything, babe." Not everything, but most things! And after you've been alive for over a century, people become boringly predictable.
"Do I stroke your ego by saying yes?" The little tongue flicks out at her as she pulls a face in it's direction. "Well, Bhasundara is a tattle tale." True enough, though. It would be damn near impossible to lie to Tenzin. "Yes, we're still fucking. Good sex is good sex, it's not all that deep." They weren't going on romantic candlelight dinners. Thalia's pretty sure she'd rather break her own bones than that, anyway. She didn't doubt Ezra would feel the same.
Cyrus chuckled, the sound exhaled in a puff of breath as his pace slowed to match hers. "There will always be someone stronger than you or someone capable of leveling the playing field. To underestimate that fact is to end up in an early grave. Especially if you can't run from them. I'll have to have a talk with your boss. Seems to me he's failing at his job if he hasn't even managed to impart that small bit of common sense on to you."
Thalia couldn't help but scoff. Mostly because she was acutely aware of her ability to break every bone in a person's body with a flick of the wrist. And, if this joker kept egging her on, she'd show him first hand how easy it would be to win a fight if her opponent had two broken knee caps. "Who died and put you in charge," She asked incredulously. "And for your information, I have plenty of defensive skills. Being able to run a couple miles in a set amount of time doesn't tell anyone shit about real skill."
"Long time, no see." After a particularly nasty fight, Tenzin had taken a short break from world domination to heal fully in a place not even the Damned could find her. "How've you been, Thalia?" She grabs a beer from the fridge, passes it to her friend, then grabs one for herself. "Still fucking Ez, I assume? It'd explain why he's such a slow texter lately."
"As I live and breathe, if it isn't Tenzin." Thalia was convinced they had all but fallen off the face of the earth at some point. That would have been a shame seeing as they were one of the few people Thalia actually enjoyed. "Maybe I am." Her tone was noncommittal, though Tenzin didn't need her confirmation. "Or maybe he's just a naturally slow texter."
"Well, I suppose there are no small roles, only begrudging participants." Which she supposed she could be classified as, though she wasn't one to admit it freely. No need to look ungrateful in addition to having such a close familial tie to the leader of the damned. "But, I will be looking forward to seeing where I'm most useful when this goes into affect." Hopefully soon. Thalia was getting antsy. "Well, look at you, a man of the people. Going to your underlings for assistance." With sleep of all things.
"i've taught you well. trust me when i say that this time i'll be using your abilities to their full potential." and then some, he assumes. war is never easy and never fully able to be prepared for. "my underlings." he laughs. "a man of the people wouldn't say he has any underlings." the fact that he doesn't deny it probably says something about him, but neither of them care to address it. "maybe you would be surprised at how quick our people are to offer help when you ask for it."
"Well, my birthday's coming early this year," Thalia muses. It won't be a cake walk, but at least it'll be interesting. That must count for something in the long run. "Constituents, then." Maybe. It was better to leave some things packed up, though. Thalia wouldn't question Santi's leadership. "Well, I don't intend to rely too heavily on the generosity of others."
"is that your way of asking me to open up, doll?" he asks, low and curious. "i'm an open book. you could know anything you wanted." as long as you know the questions to ask. as long as he decides to tell the truth. it's always so much easier to lie, to make everyone else think that he's perfectly grounded in reality. the unfortunate part of it all is when it inevitably comes crashing down. he's just not all that good at keeping up the act, try as he might. "i'll keep my promises, don't you worry. i won't keep you longer than three more minutes."
Thalia hums, like she's considering his words. "I'll keep that in mind." Though they were unfortunately similar in certain ways. Thalia had the feeling that she wouldn't get the full truth from him so easily, because she would never be so bold as to disclose all of herself to someone. She had learned young that people, other than herself, were not to be trusted. It was something that was earned, never given. "Well, I say we find a fun way to kill three more minutes, then."
"i trust you'll be happier this time," he says, lips twitching with amusement. santiago is aware that she's not pleased with the assignment she's had thus far, but she won't be stuck in the role for very much longer. the time of subterfuge and deception is coming to an end—chaos and destruction will regain the crown, all truths laid bare for the world to see. they'll see why he has marked them for death. they may argue it, but he'll earn understanding. they all will. "she's been helping me with the opposite problem. i need more rest than most, she just is able to help with the efficiency."
"How are things? Blah, blah blah. Anything new in your life? Blah, blah, blah. Social niceties, social script, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera." Whoever came up with the social script had a passion for inconveniencing people who did not care for it... which, granted, Thalia probably didn't either. "I need your help with something."
The one thing Thalia enjoyed the most about Vera was her lack of concern for social niceties. She could handle small talk here and there, but it was so nice to talk to a straight shooter like Vera. "Well, don't leave me hanging. What is it? Am I breaking bones? Fixing bones? Is it entirely unrelated to bones?" Unlikely, but it would be nice for Thalia to be called on for non-bone issues once in a while.
"you didn't?" he feigns surprise, but of course he's not. most people know him to actively go against every little instruction he's given, just for the sake of it. and it's true, he adores to be contrary... but that doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy being put into his place, either. especially when there's a beautiful woman involved. "well, it's not everyone you know. only a lovely lady like yourself could bring it out of me." or, you know, anyone he fancies. he leaves that part out. "i'd be happy to get on my knees and show you. say... my place, later tonight?"
"Well, maybe if you didn't play your cards so close to your chest," Thalia teases, dancing her fingers up his chest to punctuate her point. Though, she's one to talk. For people who were constantly running around fucking and kissing, Thalia didn't really know anything about Ezra. Yet, a part of her thought maybe that was for the best. "Your place. Later tonight," Thalia agreed, a bit of a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "But, a promise is a promise, you know."
"C'mon now soldier, I've lapped you twice now." Jogging was part of Cyrus' routine, a way to expend excess energy and gather his thoughts. His chosen loop around the city was frequently used by other members of sector six, it was how he had first discovered it. He had now passed the same woman twice on his laps. "Surely you can do better than that."
Thalia was a lot of things. A good fighter, a powerful mutant, and stubborn as they come. But, running? Running was a death sentence, there was nothing she hated more. If she could spend her time training for fights in the gym, she'd be thrilled. Unfortunately for her, routine exams meant she had to keep her mile time short. It didn't mean that she had any interest in putting forth effort on her weekly runs. "Don't need to run away from a fight if I'm not gonna lose," She pants.
