I am a financial dumbass

I continue to be extremely amused by how much the schooling I went through did not even remotely prepare me for the real world.

I am a full-grown adult and I am just looking through what taxes deductions are. I know none of my legal rights. I don't know how to grow my assets or budget or how to write a good resume. WTF is life. Everything is so overwhelming now. I had to specifically start this tumblr to vent. Omg. Send help.

Nobody is broken and beyond help. You fall down, get hurt, and might never be able to go back to who you were. If you try to re-trace your path to reach your former self you will end up feeling stuck and helpless. Trees that broke and fell during storms don't grow back up the same way. they trace new paths and take different directions. Either way, they thrive, beautiful in their own way.

You can do the same. That is healing.

I would like to take this time to sincerely applaud all the financially literate individuals like my boyfriend who are still humble. How do y'all do it?

I learnt what a cashflow and an income statement was and I feel so unbelievably sexy? If I actually got financially literate and knew how to speak the jargon I'd be sooo insufferable?

I'd wink at people all the time and wear suits to the grocery store and shit. I looked up the definition of asset and now my brain thinks I'm Leo from Wolf of Wall street. Like I'd let me crush me between her financially literate thighs.

Rich Dad Poor Dad Is Infuriating

As noobs do, I scrolled through 'Top Finance Books' on the web and naturally got recommended 'Rich Dad Poor Dad.' I almost burnt the entire thing several times as I tried to read it.

I don't know what else I expected from a book about investment written by an Asian dad but saying stuff like 'Taxes punish the producer and reward the lazy' was not it. To be fair though, the reason I didn't expect that is because I'm very dumb.

I would have stopped reading right then because that is practically misinformation. I knew that the book was going to serve me a very mediocre defense of capitalism and its greatest ways.

The book started out with the 'Rich Dad' teaching his first lesson of not letting emotions motivate my (financial) decisions. I just knew in my kidneys that if I just rage quit this guy would say something like 'This is the reason you're a broke ass hoe.'You let your emotions control you.'

Out of pure spite, I bottled up my knee-jerk rage and read on.

Now, the book turned out to be useful and held many valuable points to consider. I learned a handful of ideals like not being afraid to invest, planning a passive income, the importance of financial literacy, what cash flow is, and so on.

But, the most important takeaway from my entire experience is to listen beyond my emotions. To not disregard all of someone's opinions based on a single shitty one. The guy's book was half BS, in my humble opinion, but I genuinely found it a great starting point for my financial literacy journey. I didn't have to agree with everything he said but listening to him make his entire point benefited me in the end.
