Hello! I'm not sure if you've been asked this before, but I was wondering what your favorite movie from the original trilogy is and why, and also what your favorite scene(s) is in that movie and why!

Empire is not just my favorite Star Wars film, but very likely my favorite movie of all time. I've posted it before but I absolutely love this little scene. Quite eerie but with a sense of pathos, the full orchestra temporarily dying out from the grander scene of The Falcon escaping Bespin into these faint woodwinds as Vader calls out to Luke, macro to micro. Looking at the music: The Imperial March played on that tiny flute in the background is quite curious, because it is the softest and most emotionally resonant that the cue has in the entire film. It is usually played strongly with gravitas or with impending doom, quite Wagner-esque, so there is significance of it being so quiet and gentle - it is clear to me that Williams definitely believed that there was no lie, Vader was Luke's father, and this little sound was the connecting line that echoed what came before: if it were a lie, it would be stronger and more sinister, but this is gentle, somber, like a haunting lullaby.

George Lucas has stated that Luke losing his hand is specifically meant to be a castration analogy, where the man tries to prove his worth and fails and is cut back down to boyhood, having to start over in his quest. Which connects quite well with how this cue of The Imperial March is used in the film, the boy in Luke instinctively calling out for his father, despite his adamant and tearful denial only a few minutes prior.

We don't really get to see a ton of how the ramifications of all of this effects Luke in the movies; we are definitely told some and get hints but much of it happens off screen. We see Yoda confirm what he already knows to be true (although, imho, mainly for the audience) and some brief anger with Obi-Wan. We see that he has grown with a new demeanor and confidence. The 2020 comics go into it somewhat more, but on screen, I think that this is where we get to see some hints of that; the despair, pain, longing, and confusion. But also, this is one of the few times where we do get to see a hint of father and son speaking plainly to one another. The stakes are high in the overall scene but it is conversational and natural, a strange juxtaposition.

It is a small little moment that lingers, at least with me.

7. What color are their eyes? Are they a “Human” color, or something else?

aina has hazel eyes that lean more on the brownish side. i like the headcanon that force users look a bit uncanny so under lighting they look as if they’re glowing (think: animal eyes at night when you shine a light on them) this often unnerves people due to her staring habit

11. Do they have any scars? If they do, where are they, and where did they come from?

Aina has a bunch of little scars lining her body that eventually fade with time. she isn’t bothered by most of them. she has an adventurous heart and often gets lost in her mind which leads to many bumps and cuts. and learns to see them as proof of her survival, thanks to her teacher of course.

the only scar on her body she truly hates is the brand above her left eyebrow. given to her by slaver at the tender age of six. sometimes she can still feel the burn of the iron, and she knows people stare at it.

also not really a scar but aina broke her nose after falling from one of the black spires of her home planet, leaving it permanently shifted to the right. it used to bother her in her teen years, when she started to care about her looks. but after way too many many offers to have it fixed by various medical droids and beauticians she decided she likes it. gives her face a bit of wabi sabi

15. What’s their favorite style?

in contrast to luke’s dark robes aina loves bright bold colors. yellow is her favorite because it reminds her of the sun, but a good deep blue is a good runner up. she loves to accessorize with hand made bracelets and jewelry made from the various things she finds on her adventures and missions. when she was younger (10 or 11) and had a hard time focusing on meditation Luke suggested tying bracelets (which he knew nothing about, but anything to keep her hands busy and out of trouble) he looked up some tutorials on the holonet and did tried best to teach her. he was still getting used to this teaching-an-overactive-child-who-couldn’t-even-read thing, but she understood it well enough. soon the amassed a pretty big collection of bracelets (some he wears under his robes until they fall off)

I had quite the experience drawing this..... sorry if it looks odd, i used your request to study as well.... his facial expression was so hard for me to capture, i had quite the time... i also struggled so bad with his lips, fahahaha, but still, i had fun experimenting!!!!! i hope you like it, even if things look off (i know his head is probably way too wide and his eyes are off)

Okay, I really hope I’m not ruining your post further, and I don’t claim that this is a particularly original thought, but hear me out:

In ANH, Leia has a British accent when she’s still trying to bluff her way through Vader and Tarkin by pulling senatorial rank, and drops that accent when she becomes so agitated that the bluff falls apart, and she doesn’t pick it back up again.

I’d argue that this implies that Coruscant’s social elite tend to speak with a crisp British accent, and Leia adopts it when acting as a senator, because when in Rome and beat them at their own game and all that, but it’s not her normal accent.

And since Mara Jade is my fandom speciality, I can’t help but bring her into this by pointing out that she grew up within that Coruscanti elite - the Emperor’s own court, the most elite of elite, even - which would imply that her natural accent is British.

Now, she certainly had speech training that would allow her to speak naturally in any number of accents, because she often acted as an undercover agent where her own natural accent would be a dead giveaway, and she left Coruscant not long after the battle of Endor and then, in her own words, spent nearly five years “sloshing around the rotten underfringes of the galaxy”, surely places where she would want to conceal the upper crust accent that could potentially put a target on her back. Arguably she would continue to do so even after she joined Karrde; she would often be working with people and in places where such a social marker could be to her detriment. So probably by the time of HoT, Mara is so accustomed to speaking without it that her natural accent has effectively been replaced (presumably with the general American accent of the Big Three, which seems to be the accent equivalent of Basic within the GFFA).

But when Mara is really agitated, I’ve always imagined her slipping back into the crisp British accent she was presumably raised with, much the same way that, when she was really angry with her father, Hera Syndulla slipped back into a Ryloth/Twi’leki accent.

That’s my headcanon, anyway.

I am totally on board with Mara having that crisp British accent which she knows how to use and when to lose. I often see people giving Luke a southern accent but that doesn't fit for me. I'd give him more of a Philadelphia accent. A blue collar city in many ways. Think Rocky Balboa yelling YO Adrian. He can also adapt it when he needs to.
