i’m sorry but the mischaracterization of satoru gojo sometimes makes me wanna scream into the void. people really love to take one scene, one line, and twist it into a whole narrative that doesn’t even align with his core. like… are we even watching the same man??
HE DID NOT NEED A MORAL COMPASS. satoru’s been repressing his own desires since he was a child. a literal kid born with a power that could’ve destroyed everything around him—and yet, he didn’t. he never misused it. not once. not even out of spite. not even when he had every right to feel angry and lash out.
and people still act like he was this walking weapon on the verge of snapping if someone didn’t hold his leash. no. this is someone who’s been raised with expectations no one else could ever comprehend, who’s constantly chosen restraint, duty, and control even when it’s agonizing. and he makes those choices alone. over and over again.
i think people overlook how deeply internalized satoru’s moral compass already is. his “should we kill them?” moment wasn’t a breakdown of ethics. it was frustration, grief, anger. it was a TEENAGER who just saw someone he was protecting die in front of him, asking a friend for perspective. he wasn’t lost. he wasn’t about to burn the world. he was trying to process in real time. but people latch onto that line like it’s some confirmation that he needed someone to “save” him from becoming a monster.
no, actually. he saves himself. again. and again. and again.
he chooses to teach. he chooses to protect. he chooses to carry the weight of reforming a broken system—and yeah, he does fail sometimes. but that doesn’t make him any less righteous. if anything, it shows how much he shoulders on his own.
like idk. maybe it’s just me but i’m over people reducing him to “a time bomb that only didn’t go off because someone held his hand.” no. he’s the one who defuses himself. every single time. because he wants to do better. because he knows how powerful he is. because he cares.
satoru gojo isn’t dangerous. he’s the strongest—not just in power, but in how fiercely he holds himself together. he’s been alone at the top his whole life, forced to carry the weight of a world that only ever demanded from him, never asked how he was. he didn’t need saving because he was the safety net for everyone else. and even when it broke him, even when it hurt, he never turned cruel. never lost himself.
THAT’S WHAT MAKES HIM SO SPECIAL.
not just that he could’ve gone dark—but that he chose not to. again and again. that he stayed soft, and kind, and hopeful, even when he had every reason not to.
he deserves the world. and it kills me that he never got it 😔

a/n : this is kind of a sequel of this fic but it can be read separately. i was highly inspired by this anecdote.
the moment joshua had put a ring on your finger, your friends became even more envious of your relationship. and you clearly understood them. your husband was the kindest person you ever met, as considerate as day one, as in love as one could be. some even asked you if you had casted a spell on him, seeing how much of a simp he was for you.
but right now, as you were still on the tourist river boat on the seine celebrating your three years anniversary in the first place you thought joshua was about to propose, you were starting to doubt that his endless love would stay reciprocated.
"the fuck do you mean your ring fell into the seine?" you rumbled in silence so you wouldn’t draw attention or disturbe the other passengers.
"well, it fell," your husband answered sheepishly.
"hong jisoo i swear i-"
"no, not the governmental name," he cut, imploring.
"you deserve nothing more than that! you answered back, how did you even manage to do that?"
slowly opening his mouth, you interrupted abruptly, extending your hand to cover it :
"it was a rhetorical question, i don’t want to know."
"i insist on giving my end of the story, my queen. i recently lost weight so my ring was already slippery but, with the rain, it completely dropped."
with a resigned sigh, you sat on your seat, giving a dirty look at the even dirtier waters, contemplating whether you’d be sick or not after a swim inside.
you had decided to jump when you felt joshua’s warm hand wrapping around yours.
"i know what you’re thinking and yes, you’d get incredibly sick. didn’t you watch the olympic games this summer?"
"i didn’t seriously plan on going to search your ring, you lied before adding sombrely, i was debating whether i’d be able to plead your drowning was accidental or not."
"really funny."
a silence installed itself between the two of you before joshua whispered :
"i know you’re sad and i am truly sorry i lost my ring. it never was my intention."
"really? you didn’t want to act like a single man to flirt with parisian girls?" you teased, trying to show him you weren’t mad anymore.
"i don’t care about parisian girls, i have you."
with a giggle, you dropped a kiss on his lips before looking around to appreciate the rest of your visit. but, when you felt that joshua’s silence was suspicious, your smile slowly faded for a nervous expression.
"what are you scheming?" you asked.
"i am not scheming anything, and it truly hurts me to see you have so little faith in me," joshua’s retorted dramatically.
"come on i know you for too long to play dumb. now split it out, hong."
"i was only thinking that this lost might be a sign. paris is the city of love after all."
"you’re the only when who’d think this is romantic," you deadpanned with a disgusted expression.
you thought the conversation was over but suddenly joshua exclaimed :
"let’s drop your ring too!"
"did you lose your mind?" you choked.
"that way, our two rings would reunite..."
"this is not how it works."
"... and we can make new wedding rings here, they would have such a special meaning. plus not everyone can praise themselves to have wedding rings made in paris. and it’d be a great story for our future children."
at the mention of potential kids, you felt the fire across your cheek but joshua’s last words definitely finished you :
"i’d marry you ever day we’re on earth if i could."
and it didn’t take you much more the send your rings in the waters as far as possible.
"it’d be in your best interest to have those rings reunited," you falsely mumbled.
"i know they will, there’s no other way possible," joshua reassured.
and, with a final kiss of your lips, you thought that you hadn’t been so wrong to think joshua would propose in paris.
