Please Help My Father Pay For Cancer Treatment

Hey y’ all

I hate to ask, but recently my father was diagnosed with cancer. We are so thankful it’s treatable, but even with decent health insurance, the bills are adding up fast. 

Furthermore, my father is the primary caretaker for my younger brother, who has significant disabilities and health issues of his own. As a result. any help that can be given won’t just cover the cost of cancer care, it will ensure that my brother’s health and safety needs will be covered as well.

I am so thankful for all of the attention this post has been given. Unfortunately, however, I need to keep asking for your help. Insurance has covered less of my father’s care than we originally thought, and we were just handed a $2,800.00 bill due in three weeks. There is no way we can afford to pay this charge without assistance, especially because at this stage treatments have made my father too ill to continue working.

Please stop scrolling, I have cancer and I need help

I never thought it would come to this but I need to ask for help.

My name is Percy, I'm 21 and last year I was diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera (a slow form of blood cancer) as well as many other things that have rendered me disabled. One of which, also being SVT, a heart disease that I was born with and had previously had surgery for and was deemed 'cured of' until last year I had an episode that left me in the hospital for several nights, and with a heart monitor for months.

I officially became disabled last year after a traumatic brain injury that has left me with short term memory loss, seizures, a cataract, a facial scar, and a crack from the bridge of my nose to the top of my skull following my eye brow bone.

I am unable to work and have been working on a disability case for the past year, after being formerly denied after applying too soon with my diagnosis still not being officially diagnosed yet. And with things JUST NOW finally making progress after getting a social worker, I don't have any hope of an answer or any type of income.

I am a transman, gay, poc (though white passing after being bullied into skin bleaching which I now regret and unfortunately having my native ancestry forced away from my life).

I was homeless before I was lucky enough to have found an unofficial foster family who has unofficially adopted me into their family. My biological family is abusive and I am currently in the process of cutting them from my life.

Right now, the only thing I do have is EBT (food stamps) and I buy food for both myself and my boyfriend who lives with me. He is also disabled, and unable to work, and between the two of us we barely scrape by.

Right now, I haven't been able to have cancer treatment in over 2 months due to lack of money, as well as no medication and other treatments that are LITERALLY NEEDED FOR ME TO LIVE.

I am genuinely growing weaker and weaker by the day, and my adopted family has undergone some serious problems that have left them unable to support me currently.

Reblog to save his life

This is Rhys, my 2 year old cat

You can do whatever you want with him, he never bites or scratches anyone and he loves playing fetch and sucking on soft plushy blankets

Another cat has bitten him and gave him this bacteria called Pyo Thorax which causes fluid behind his lungs. It's a deadly condition, but thank god my mom and I noticed on time so he's now in an animal hospital where they're cleaning his lungs and

He's doing really well at the moment

Unfortuately, the bacteria won't completely be gone unless the vets do a surgery where they open up his chest and clean every little corner of the lungs so they know that all the bacteria are gone. Then again, Rhys is a strong lil man and he's doing fine so the surgery will, according to the vets, go well and he'll recover like any other cat.

But

The surgery is expensive and my mom, who has all the money for the surgery but planned on spending that money on buying new furniture for the house, thinks

"It's a waste of money to spend it all on a cat"

This is why mom wants to put him to sleep tomorrow

I'm not asking anyone here for money.

We are now waiting on a phone call that should tell us if he really needs the surgery or if there is any other option for him.

Yesterday, my mom and I visited him right after he got his treatment. They clean his lungs every few hours and suck out the fluid, which is not the most enjoyable thing for him. Anyway, he should've had not problems with breathing after that. However, when we saw him he started to have a lot of trouble breathing and it was heartbreaking to see.

This is why we decided to put him to sleep if he needs the surgery, because the treatment is really heavy and we don't want him to go through this another week while there's still a big chance that he will never fully recover. (Think of not eating now which eventually causes liver problems etc.)

For whatever happens next, whether he'll get another treatment and survive or he'll be put to sleep, Rhys and I would love to thank everyone for all the love & support (I honestly did not expect this at all holy shit)❤️💛💚💙💜

Rhys is doing really good!

Besides his permanent damage on one lung (he'll never breathe like a normal cat), he's doing really well and they are gonna try to fix it without the surgery. The vets wanted to give Rhys one more chance so they'll treat him one full day without any payment at all which is absolutely amazing. After that Rhys is coming home and we're gonna see how he'll do on his own with antibiotics. If this doesn't work, we're still gonna give him a peaceful end, but if he's strong enough; he'll survive :)

So it's all on him now

Most important: Spend the money you have on a motel. Churches probably will not actually help and shelters can be dangerous or turn you away. At a motel you have free breakfast, access to running water, and a lockable place to sleep. 2. Contact family and friends. Now is not the time to worry about being a burden. Your survival and safety comes first and that is all that matters, anyone worth having in your life will agree.

3. Start a gofundme. Even if someone can’t offer you a place to stay, they might be willing to toss out $5 so you can eat today.

4. Libraries have free wifi. Apply to any and all jobs you can think of if you aren’t already working.

5. Any home is a good home. Even if it’s a dingy apartment in a bad neighborhood. If its cheap and you can afford it, snatch it up. 

6. Pancake mix and peanut butter are filling, cheap, and last a long time.

My mother is trying to force me into conversion/ex-gay therapy

by pulling some really sketchy shit to have me declared mentally incompetent and having herself appointed as my guardian, which will effectively give her 100% authority over legal and medical decisions that I should be making as I am, y’know, not underage and am perfectly capable of making those decisions myself. Yes, this is very illegal. No, no one here cares- it’s a small town in the Deep South.

I need to get out of here, get my own LEGITIMATE psych eval, and get things in order to contest this in court. All three of these things are very expensive.

Do you think this is a pretty sight? This is the reality of having anorexia for 12+ years. The reality of what eating disorders can do to your body.

When I was in high school and then in college getting my bachelors degree, I spent more time in hospitals and treatment centers than I did out of them.

And then I found out

My organs failed. Permanently.

Last year, I needed major surgery that took about 4 HOURS, and after that I was admitted to the hospital for a week on heavy pain medications, being wheeled around because I couldn’t walk.

I had tubes everywhere.

I had to medically withdraw from graduate school because I had to spend that time in doctors offices, infusion centers for IVs, in the ER, or admitted into the hospital.

Now I have a 6 inch scar across my abdomen and will be on medications for the rest of my life to help my heart and stomach function enough to keep me alive.

I’ve nearly died multiple times from the ED, but I had never believed that my organs could shut down and leave me to deal with that reality for the rest of my life.

That is not a way anyone should have to live life.

This is what an eating disorder looks like. Not the “thinspo” everyone sees on the Internet. This is what you don’t see behind those pictures and it’s not pretty.
