my review of the miraculous movie! 🎥🐞🐈⬛
ok. i waited for this movie for a very long time. i remember being 13 years old when it was announced. now i turn 18 in a few months. to say my expectations were high is an understatement.
everything about this movie is perfect.
the animation is so well done, so beautiful. it all flows so perfectly together, from each strand of hair to the villains. the backdrops, the scenery. the facial expressions. the action shots. the simple moments. they all were captured and created beautifully. the ending battle with the purple sky and the fire everywhere was so gorgeous. this movie could have been about random people, no superhero’s. something so crazy, and what i didn’t sign up to see. but no matter what it was or what was its cinematography was perfect.
now for the plot. it was so nostalgic. it reminded me so much of the earlier seasons. don’t get me wrong, i love season five, my favorite season so far. but something about the simplicity of the earlier seasons shining through this movie made me so happy. i loved getting to see the start of everything again: marinette and alya meeting, mari and adrien getting their miraculous, master fu being the guardian. the introduction of all the characters. maribug and adrichats meet queues. when ladybug and chat fell into each other again like when they first met in the show i screamed. i was so happy to see them again
as for the characters, marinette was as perfect as she could get. in the show, it takes a long time to see personal growth in marinette, especially in her feelings towards adrien and then finally getting together. in the movie, it was quicker (obviously because there’s less time in an 1hr 45min movie compared to 5+ seasons of a show) but i’m glad it was there. seeing marinette be so nervous and flustered about becoming ladybug was amazing, especially how in her first battle she messed up a lot. that was something i loved more in the movie compared to the show, because it’s more realistic that she had a hard time getting used to her powers. i love how throughout the movie, we see marinette gain more confidence in herself as she is ladybug. i love how it addresses that her being ladybug isn’t what makes her special, but that she’s in a way always been ladybug, and this allowed her confidence and happiness to shine through even without the mask.
now for adrien. he was such a cutie in this movie. i do wish he had a bit more screen time in comparison to marinette, but i’m not really mad about it. something I really loved about adrien in this movie was that he tried to seem all tough and strong as cat noir, but when he needed help, he let ladybug take control and save him, despite teasing her about being the ‘sidekick’ in the duo. i loved how he stood up to his father also. i’m not sure him being a sentimonster exists in the universe or not so we will say he isn’t, so it’s nice to see him be able to feel and say what he wants to gabriel without being shut down. i love how he put gabriel in his place, but also forgave him after finding out he was hawkmoth. something else I loved about adrien in this movie was with him and his mother. in the show, adrien really seems to be moving on from his mothers death, but I like how the movie explore that he was still really hurt by her.
i am a proud gabriel agreste hater in the show. but due to the movie and show not being canon to each other, i can say i didn’t hate him in the movie. he was redeemable. he had emotions. he was connected to adrien more. i like this gabriel. part of me really wanted to sympathize with gabriel in this movie. the way he was portrayed made me feel bad for him that he lost emilie, while compared to the show i just really hate his guts and I’m glad he’s (spoiler) dead.
as for the love square, i mean common, ladynoir cleared this movie. we didn’t get ladrien or marichat(except that one marichat scene in the final battle but it doesn’t really count). i expected to not get any ladrien/marichat, but i was surprised to see how little adrienette there was compared to what i expected. there meet in the library was adorable, and their few interactions were done well. and the REVEAL??? common that was the best part of the movie. i’m really upset that the kiss was cut off at the end but honestly, knowing jeremy it’s really funny that that happened. knowing that we might get a second movie i know we’ll probably see more adrienette it which I’m really excited for. 
i loved all the side characters also. alya and nino were amazing in this movie. the whole scene of them together on the roller coaster with each other was so cute and I really love this relationship, i wish it was explored more in the show. they’re both such great friends to adrien and marinette. The scene of all four of them at the carnival and alya and nino giving marinette and adrien back-and-forth advice about love just really made me smile. 
also i loved seeing the akuma class in the background at times! every time i saw luka i smiled so hard. (rip kagami in the movie we missed you queen),
one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie was the sequence where time is passing, ladybug and cat noir are fighting a lot of villains, and we got to see the core 4 just having a good time, going on picnics and to the movies. i love this friend group and i want more of it in the show.
i have a few criticisms i’ll share. one being the pacing. it felt a little rushed at times. although i also expected this because the story itself is complicated. there’s so many characters and plot moments to get through. another criticism i’ll point out again is the lack of adrienette. i’m not trying to sound biased because they are my fav love square ship, but i think more adrienette is important to the dynamic, especially because the movie had the reveal.
another thing I want to criticize going back to that montage I just talked about I wish we had gotten a full scene of adrien talking to marinette about his mother. overall more adrienette scenes i think would’ve really helped progress the love square in the movie and would’ve made the reveal about 20 times better. but what we got was still really good and so i’m not extremely upset over it
The last thing I want to mention is the music I thought the songs were really good and beautiful. I think the people that did adrien and marinette’s singing voice did a great job, but the only thing I didn’t like was the connection to their talking voices, it just didn’t connect for me and it felt kind of weird transitioning into the songs. The songs are done beautifully and the singers did a great job I just wish it was Christina and bryce singing
overall i give it a 9/10. it was so amazing i’m going to watch it a million times. thank you jeremy for this movie. it was everything i’d ever want
